In a previous thread, concerned with the reliability of fibrosis tests like biopsy, Fibroscan, Fibrotest, FibroTC, etc., I mentioned a simple fibrosis index I recently discovered called the AST-to-Platelet Ratio Index, or APRI, that can be calculated from blood tests, and which has been shown to have a high level of reliability.
Avatar f tn I have also had ultrasound, ecodoppler, and biopsy, all at my hospital here, and am doing APRI (AST-to-Platelet Ratio Index) myself. Here are some of my own experiences, which may be of use to you. 18 months ago, after being diagnosed with hep C, I had a biopsy that gave A2,F1 (Metavir scores meaning moderate inflammation and slight fibrosis). Ultrasound showed a normal-looking liver.
7510956 tn?1411671417 Hi and welcome. Feeling healthy and approaching cirrhosis are not exclusive. Many people who have complete cirrhosis which is more advanced than your liver disease feel fine. It is only when cirrhosis becomes advanced that serious complications appear. Having fluid retention (ascites and edema), enlarged collateral veins (varices), etc. Others may have more recent data on Fibrosure. This is what I found...
Avatar f tn APRI Prob-Index (PI) = (AST/ULN_ast)/( PLT ). So the APRI's very crude fibrosis levels are: PI < 0.5 ... little to no fibrosis, PI < 1.0 ... moderate fibrosis, PI 1.5 ... likely cirrhosis. I'm curious what your numbers would be and how you fit on the APRI scale, relative to what the FT measured you at. Did your previous liver biopsy pathology report indicate which portion(s) of your liver lobules contained the bulk of your inflammatory infilterates?

Avatar n tn I had some really odd symptoms with Yasmin and begged my dr to take me off of it, since then I was on Apri, which is just generic desogen. Initally did much better on this one so I'm not sure how yaz/yasmin works but I can say my withdrawal bleed "period" got way longer on it- I used to only bleed for 4 days on Aleese, then gradually this increased and due to weight gain and water retention switched to Yasmin...
Avatar n tn This is my first month ever being on birth control and i'm on the 28-day pack pills called Apri. i started taking the last week the "reminder pills" 3 days ago and the way i understood it is that i'm supposed to get my period on the first day i took the reminder pills...could i be pregnant or is there something else wrong?
Avatar n tn I have one sex partner. Please help! I am also on birth control Apri and have been having extreme acne under my jawline on my neck (I read this is hormonal). Please give me your input on what you think is wrong.
Avatar f tn OK. So I was on Apri for a year when I was with my bf. My last period on Apri was July 18, 2008. After that period, I took about 4 of the pills before I decided to go off the pill for a few months, since my bf and I broke up months ago and I don't like taking medicine/hormones I don't need. Naturally, my period started again a few days after I stopped taking the pill, so maybe the beginning of August. Last week, I made a really stupid, stupid mistake and slept with my ex w/o protection.

Avatar f tn I never know on March 26th or Apri 1st.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was on the pill Apri for a little over a yr. Had a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy for endo, a polyp and a cyst. After that I wanted to try for a baby. Anyways, I stopped my birth control the same day I had my surgery and I've never had a problem. I'm not sure about everyone but that was what happened to me. Everything was fine. I had surgery on June 25th, 2010 and so it's been almost 3 weeks. I hope this helps. Good luck, take care!

Avatar n tn I'm 25 yrs old, and was on the Apri bcp for exactly "A WEEK," when I notice that my scalp felt like it was burning and it was itching badly. I went to check my head if it was lice or so, and found out that I had a dime size bald spot. I immediately stopped taking the bcp. It's been exactly one month now that I've been bcp-free and still notice that I am shedding tremendously, hair thinning, and found 3 more bald spots.
1055902 tn?1286305198 t know why and does not want to make any assumption. He put me on a birth control pill called Apri to bring on a period and hopefully clear out the tissues. If Apri does not help, then he consider doing D & C. Why not do a D & C instead of taking the pills? I'm afraid, I may never get pregnant from taking the pills. Any thoughts on this? I can't stop crying!
Avatar f tn Your #s are great!!!!!!! Are you sure your Cirrhotic? They have a formula that you can use called APRI which can give you an idea of what stage you are based upon your platelet # and ALT score. You can google APRI calculator to find your score. Kinda interesting. On my lab results normal is 150-400 so I don't seem normal yet as I'm still 141. Hoping to see some change at my next appt. Thanks for responding and check out your scores.
