Common Questions and Answers about Antihistamine medication for dogs

antihistamine

Avatar f tn Oh how terrible - give your dog a bath, maybe even an antihistamine pill - 1 mg per pound of weight - and give your dog's system a rest for awhile before trying anything else. The poor little soul.
612551 tn?1450022175 Temaril-P has been found to be effective therapy and adjunctive therapy in various cough conditions of dogs. Therefore, in addition to its antipruritic action, Temaril-P is recommended for the treatment of “kennel cough” or tracheobronchitis, bronchitis including all allergic bronchitis and infections and coughs of nonspecific origin. (Coughs due to cardiac insufficiencies would not be expected to respond to Temaril-P therapy.
274158 tn?1276347187 I was reading the ask a vet forum and the vet said there is medication for aggression? If so what is it? If anyone knows that would be great. I was just wondering out of curiousity, I am not one to alter my dog's behavior. Thanks everyone!
Avatar n tn Some types of dog mites can be transmitted to humans. If present in your dogs, have them seen by veterinarian for treatment. In your case, cold packs and antihistamine medication may help with the itching especially when taken at night. Try to avoid scratching to prevent secondary infection. If it persists, have this evaluated by your doctor for proper management. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn In approx 10% of dogs, any antihistamine can unexpectedly cause excessive sleepiness, or paradoxical excitment, and if these symptoms occur, then the antihistamine is discontinued. Perhaps this happened to one of the prior rescue dogs when given benadryl.
612551 tn?1450022175 Thanks, I had seen some where making use of Benadryl antihistamine oral for dogs... making some adjustment for weight. Thus a 20 pound Westie would be a small fraction of a pill. I just now wonder too if the antihistamine oral might also be of some help with the skin.... I'll stick to one experiment at at time, otherwise the results can't be mapped to one action. I may try Gold Bond, that too had come to mind, in fact I tried a little a few weeks back and decided not to continue.
Avatar n tn DSM-IV does not classify medications. Coricidin is an antihistamine, not a mental health medication.
Avatar n tn ll need a better anti-inflammatory med from your vet. Rimadyl is old enough to be a cheap and effective medication. I had one dog on it for almost 7 years for hip dysplasia and he did fine. We eventually had to change to Deramaxx when the rimadyl wasn't working as well, and I have to say I'm a total deramaxx fan. It can be expensive if your dog need a high dose, but since your dog is small it shouldn't be too bad. One prescription med I can't recommend is etogesic.
666921 tn?1254990618 I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it
Avatar n tn How long can i use antihistamine for my daughter aged 7 months to relieve her of the eczema itching.
Avatar f tn Keep track of all the medications that seem to cause the hives, and maybe even experiment with whether different generics of the same medication have the same side effects (for example one generic atarax is green and another white, which might make a difference if you are allergic to that particular coloring agent). You may even have to have an allergist help you figure out what exactly it is that you are allergic to.
Avatar m tn Has she been wormed? Dogs with worms and itchy bums will show this behaviour. Just guessing ...
Avatar n tn Your best bet is to talk to your vet about sedation, particularly if your dogs take any other medication. I seem to recall there is an over-the-counter medication for just this problem, but my memory fails me as to its name. :-\ I'm pretty certain our co-CL, Ghilly, knows what it is, so if she doesn't check in on this thread, send her a private message and ask her to weigh in here.
Avatar m tn This makes giving her medication very difficult and she is getting thinner. Before I take her to the vet I like to ask for your opinion please. Thank you.
Avatar n tn Skin problems from can often be treated with over the counter medication. Maybe a wash in a medicated shampoo containing ketoconazole medication may help and ear drops. If an infection is present the dog may need antibiotics prescribed by a vet.
Avatar n tn I am severely allergic to dogs and cats. Asthma, runny nose, etc.; I break out in hives if one licks me. Been like this since childhood, though my symptoms have lessened over the years. I'm now 47. My parents got a dog a few years ago, but over time I have acclimated somewhat and now this particular animal doesn't seem to other me. I do not live with them, so my contact with the dog was sporadic. My wife would like to buy a dog.
959034 tn?1253671476 a doctor or pharmacist can probably give you a much better idea of how it is typically dosed for anti-emetic purposes. Dramamine is also an antihistamine I believe, but is marketed for nausea (specific to motion-sickness, I believe). At any rate, it might also be worth a shot if you haven't tried that.
Avatar n tn I AGREE WITH PEEKAWHO. I HAD A POODLE WHO ALSO GOT CAR SICK. MY VET SAID TO GIVE HER DRAMAMINE OR BENADRYL OR BONINE. THE CHILDS DOSAGE OF BENADRLY AND DRAMAMINE WORKED GREAT FOR HER! IT ALSO HELPS THEM TO RELAX. MINE GOT DROWSY WHICH WAS GOOD SINCE SHE ALSO GOT ANXIOUS DURING THE RIDE. I, TOO, GET CAR SICK AND THAT'S THE WORST FEELING!!!!!! PLEASE TRY ONE OF THESE. I HAVE ALOT OF SYMPATHY FOR YOUR DOG. GOOD LUCK.
Avatar m tn and prescribed him Cephalexin 500mg 2 every 12 hours and Benadryl 100mg every 12 hours. He has been on his medication for 1.5 weeks but the bumps are multiplying still and enlarging. At first it was just one big one and then more started to appear and keep appearing they were originally only on his lower lip but now he has some on his upper lip, they are not on his gums or on/in his nose. I keep them dry but they tend to get shiny or a little bit of bland yellow puss.
Avatar f tn What I think she needs is LASIX (For the fluid retention). Normally for heart failure, Lasix are prescribed along with the heart meds. and can be given 1-3 times a day depending on the severity of the congestion. Once, the fluid is off her lungs, the cough and congestion will improve greatly. I'm surprised that this has not already been prescribed! Please, call or go see your Vet (Quickly) and discuss this. She will feel much better.....Good luck and keep us posted.....
Avatar m tn I have seen a new allergy doctor recently. 48 hours ago, I went for a visit for allergy skin testing. They performed the skin ***** test on my forearms then proceeded to do intradermal skin testing. I was allergic to all intradermal tests except dogs. This is not the first time I've had skin testing done so this was what I expected. I have attempted to google delayed reactions and intradermal skin test but not results.
