612551 tn?1450022175 I had prior to the vet visit above been given Wilson one half Benedryl 25 mg Antihistamine morning and evening, in the hope it would clear up the paw problem. A couple weeks of this did not produce any improvement. I then checked and saw recommendations to use 1 - 2 mg per pound. As Wilson is j20+ pounds my does level was low. I have decided to continue giving him Benadryl but now one 25 mg capsule morning and night. Hope it keeps his paws and general itch problems under control.

Avatar f tn In approx 10% of dogs, any antihistamine can unexpectedly cause excessive sleepiness, or paradoxical excitment, and if these symptoms occur, then the antihistamine is discontinued. Perhaps this happened to one of the prior rescue dogs when given benadryl.
612551 tn?1450022175 I found one Westie breeder site that recommends giving on 1000 mg fish oil to the dog every day. They said their dogs take the soft capsule pill as a treat. I had figured I would break the pill open and drip in on a dry kibble meal. I am now planning to purchase some fish oil capsules, and will start taking it again myself.
Avatar n tn How long can i use antihistamine for my daughter aged 7 months to relieve her of the eczema itching.
666921 tn?1254990618 I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it
899700 tn?1241892861 Some vial resellers suggest that the Frontline Plus product works for both cats and dogs providing the right dosage is used. I have the original packaging for the last supply of Frontline for both animals which had the single dose applicators. The active ingredients listed on the front of the packaging on both boxes provide different amounts for the (S)-methoprene ingredient; 11.8% for cats and 8.8% for dogs from 23-44 lbs.
612551 tn?1450022175 Thanks, I had seen some where making use of Benadryl antihistamine oral for dogs... making some adjustment for weight. Thus a 20 pound Westie would be a small fraction of a pill. I just now wonder too if the antihistamine oral might also be of some help with the skin.... I'll stick to one experiment at at time, otherwise the results can't be mapped to one action. I may try Gold Bond, that too had come to mind, in fact I tried a little a few weeks back and decided not to continue.
Avatar f tn It's sweet that you don't want to upset your daughter but I have the same types of allergies and I just had to move my dogs outside. The longer I kept them in the house the worse the symptoms got. I don't know about how Allegra would help your skin, it is an antihistamine though so it would probably help with it minimally. I would suggest you get an emulsifying ointment from your pharmacist though.

Avatar n tn I am severely allergic to dogs and cats. Asthma, runny nose, etc.; I break out in hives if one licks me. Been like this since childhood, though my symptoms have lessened over the years. I'm now 47. My parents got a dog a few years ago, but over time I have acclimated somewhat and now this particular animal doesn't seem to other me. I do not live with them, so my contact with the dog was sporadic. My wife would like to buy a dog.
502966 tn?1210285150 our four year old husky/shepard mix is reacting to an overdose of ivermectin. we are living in the dominican republic and are losing faith in our veterinarians. he has been there for over a week. we were seeing small signs of improvement (an effort to get up, recognition) but he seems to have slipped back into a comatose state. he makes no attempts at getting up. his symptoms started on a monday--we are now on friday of the next week.
Avatar f tn Determining a dosage of tramadol for dogs is an exercise in futility. As with people, if the dog has a history of seizures it is important to let your vet know this, and they will likely tell you about alternatives. While the dosage amounts vary from dog to dog, the tramadol dosage for dogs can be put into effect by using the dog’s weight as the determinant. The usual range is .5 - 1.8mg per pound.
Avatar f tn One mg of Suboxone is a TREMENDOUS overdose for a dog. It could easily overdose an opiate-naive human. Your dog will die of pulmonary failure if you don't get her to a vet immediately.
Avatar n tn Risperdal (the brand name for risperidone) is not a veterinary drug, however studies have been done on Beagles for the drug. Overdose symptoms include lethargy, weakness, muscle tremors, ataxia and seizures. It is too late at this point to induce vomiting, so if you absolutely will not take him to a vet, you need to watch him closely for any of the symptoms I listed above. If you see them, you need to not eat for a week if necessary, but you MUST take him to a vet or you will lose him.
242912 tn?1660619837 s diet without checking first with the vet. Dosages are very different for dogs. Also, as Vitamin D is stored in the liver, overdose is possible.
Avatar m tn I have seen a new allergy doctor recently. 48 hours ago, I went for a visit for allergy skin testing. They performed the skin ***** test on my forearms then proceeded to do intradermal skin testing. I was allergic to all intradermal tests except dogs. This is not the first time I've had skin testing done so this was what I expected. I have attempted to google delayed reactions and intradermal skin test but not results.
Avatar f tn Hi & Welcome....She's already taking an antihistamine (I would not add more).....Temaril-P is a combination drug consisting of antihistamine & a steriod. What I think she needs is LASIX (For the fluid retention). Normally for heart failure, Lasix are prescribed along with the heart meds. and can be given 1-3 times a day depending on the severity of the congestion. Once, the fluid is off her lungs, the cough and congestion will improve greatly.
Avatar f tn Benadryl, Claritin and Zyrtec for canine patients since the combination seems to help just a bit more than a single antihistamine alone. However please discuss antihistamine use with your veterinarian before instituting. There is another prescription anti-itch product called Apoquel, which will help but it has side effects and Apoquel should be discussed with your veterinarian to see if it is right for your dog.
Avatar f tn My head feels so groggy, my dizziness increases and my overall feeling ill gets worse. What I do, is take an antihistamine and it seems to help or at least reduce the effects. High humidity for me is the worse, extreme heat also affects me, now - I live in Canada so winter is fast approaching and when it is humid and cold I get hives instead of the other symptoms. I only have treated with the antihistamines but would like to see what everyone else does to cope.
