antihistamine

612551 tn?1450022175 I had prior to the vet visit above been given Wilson one half Benedryl 25 mg Antihistamine morning and evening, in the hope it would clear up the paw problem. A couple weeks of this did not produce any improvement. I then checked and saw recommendations to use 1 - 2 mg per pound. As Wilson is j20+ pounds my does level was low. I have decided to continue giving him Benadryl but now one 25 mg capsule morning and night. Hope it keeps his paws and general itch problems under control.
Avatar f tn In approx 10% of dogs, any antihistamine can unexpectedly cause excessive sleepiness, or paradoxical excitment, and if these symptoms occur, then the antihistamine is discontinued. Perhaps this happened to one of the prior rescue dogs when given benadryl.
Avatar f tn t want to upset your daughter but I have the same types of allergies and I just had to move my dogs outside. The longer I kept them in the house the worse the symptoms got. I don't know about how Allegra would help your skin, it is an antihistamine though so it would probably help with it minimally. I would suggest you get an emulsifying ointment from your pharmacist though.
Avatar n tn try clariton oral, nasal crom and allaway(eyes) or just try the clariton and alaway first and if needed add the nasalceom. I have severe allergies to cats and dogs, pollen etc. and it works for me.
Avatar m tn Background: I am allergic to dogs and cats and begin to wheeze around them. I can't breathe well in peoples homes with a few dogs or cats. I'm not even sure what it is about the animal that I am allergic to. The dander? The hair? something else? Well, anyway, that is not my question. Problem: I am currently seaching for a new apartment. The problem is that most of them take dogs and cats, or, one or the other. "No pet" buildings are few and far between.
666921 tn?1254990618 I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it
612551 tn?1450022175 Thanks, I had seen some where making use of Benadryl antihistamine oral for dogs... making some adjustment for weight. Thus a 20 pound Westie would be a small fraction of a pill. I just now wonder too if the antihistamine oral might also be of some help with the skin.... I'll stick to one experiment at at time, otherwise the results can't be mapped to one action. I may try Gold Bond, that too had come to mind, in fact I tried a little a few weeks back and decided not to continue.
Avatar n tn my legs and stomach are allways itching to the point I scratch so much they start to bleed im wondering if it is becuse I sleep in my undewear and have to little dogs that sleep with me and my wife and they are allways next to my legs or my side but is it becuse of the dogs or could
1474611 tn?1416632958 Do NOT give ANY antihistamine without getting the dose from a vet and be available to watch for any negative reactions since all antihistamines have sedative effects. Or your vet may want to see the kitty for an exam to see if something else might be going on. Best of luck.
Avatar n tn What kind were you taking?
Avatar n tn I am severely allergic to dogs and cats. Asthma, runny nose, etc.; I break out in hives if one licks me. Been like this since childhood, though my symptoms have lessened over the years. I'm now 47. My parents got a dog a few years ago, but over time I have acclimated somewhat and now this particular animal doesn't seem to other me. I do not live with them, so my contact with the dog was sporadic. My wife would like to buy a dog.
Avatar f tn Hi & Welcome....She's already taking an antihistamine (I would not add more).....Temaril-P is a combination drug consisting of antihistamine & a steriod. What I think she needs is LASIX (For the fluid retention). Normally for heart failure, Lasix are prescribed along with the heart meds. and can be given 1-3 times a day depending on the severity of the congestion. Once, the fluid is off her lungs, the cough and congestion will improve greatly.
Avatar f tn The rawness and bleeding means that she probably requires an antibiotic for the secondary pyoderma (bacterial skin infection) that she caused as a result of self-inflicted skin trauma from biting and scratching. She may also require a steroid to calm the inflammation and antihistamines.
Avatar f tn What my allergiest thought when I told her this was that the antihistamines were working because since I'm allergic to molds that when it is about to rain the mold spores count are higher, now I'm not sure sometimes I'm even dizzy in my sleep and this wakes me up, so I just take an antihistamine then and usually within a 1/2 hour I can feel the difference.
Avatar f tn My allergist told me to try Claritin tabs instead of gel caps but I took one after having my allergy shot and I broke out in hives again. Now all the pollen is out and my eyes are really itchy and red and I have a hard time seeing at work. I tried taking Atarax last night to see if that would help more than Benadryl. Big mistake since I woke up broke out in bad hives. I had to wait to get home to take benadryl since I am not 100% certain that Benadryl does not give me hives.
Avatar f tn I personally take a claritin everyday. I have seasonal allergies and pet dander makes my eyes and face really itchy. My Dr OKed it and said its totally safe. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn I remember changing his food about 2 years ago to a natural choice brand from Hills brand. He has a small like stinky feet that only I can smell. Goes away with a bath. Tried many shampoos and skin treatments but no luck. After I take antihistamine I can't smell my dog for a while. So it's with out a doubt an allergy. Triggers my asthma bad too. Once he had fleas and that set off my allergies terrible. It's my allergy is from his skin I think. Won't give away, too attached.
Avatar f tn NO! Especially at that age. Stay away from the cats and if it were my grandchild? I would get rid of the cat. Dogs can sometimes be worse than cats too. Now that I am older I will take an antihistamine and I'm usually okay if I don't stay too long, but as an adult I know the cues and know when to leave. A four year old is much too young. I remember spending summer weekends at my friends house and being up ALL night long coughing and coughing and coughing. I'm allergic to dogs!
Avatar m tn You could just have chronic allergies and need to take patenol longer and use oral antihistamine as well. Dry eyes could be involved. Oral flax and fish oil may help. Maybe you didn't take the doxy long enough - perhaps minocycline very low dose with food might be easier on you. Sterilid or Ocusoft Plus lid cleanser pads might help for certain cases. I expect culture to be negative because you have been on antibiotics and often these cases are not bacteria related. Michael J.
Avatar f tn I have used hydrocortisone cream and antihistamine such as zyrtec and benadryl and had some prednisone on hand and it is the only thing that seems to help. I hope to eradicate the fleas, but in the meantime what can I do to repel them from biting and relieve this itching?
Avatar m tn you might try looking up vaccine reactions in dogs (rabies vaccine) and see if you find any info.
351404 tn?1299489130 Had an eczema with itching outbreak on forehead area and took a Benadryl antihistamine pill. Fine for 24 hours, then took another and that night had a three hour AFib episode. I remember about 20 years ago, I last took an antihistamine and got flutters. Is there a connection between AFib and antihistamine, ie have others an opinion or experience of this?
Avatar n tn Shop around with local breeders and go in to the area with the dogs. If you can put your self in a room where other breed dogs have not been, stay with them where they sleep, you should know if you are allergic to that breed. This way you might find one that you are not allergic to at all. :) Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn You should avoid substances to which you have documented allergies to. Take oral antihistamine medications like loratadine and see if it helps with your symptoms. You could be having associated rhinitis which would present in this way and not show up on the CT or MRI - you should take some steam inhalation, saline nasal drops and oral antihistamine medications like loratadine or cetrizine and see if it helps with your symptoms.
Avatar f tn That was last summer when the woman across the street refused to treat her 3 dogs and let them roam the neighborhood. Every last dog they came in contact with was infested in about 5 minutes. When she moved out, the new owners were nearly eaten alive, and once they got everything treated there were no more flea problems. An occasional bath with flea soap along with Sentinel, and no problem.
