82861 tn?1333453911 Ghilly once mentioned to me that RESCUE REMEDY (one of the Bach flower essences) might help. I don't know about using Valerian, or anything like that, I haven't the experience to know if it's harmful or not for dogs. A homoeopathic med: (Aconite, or Gelsemium, 6c 2 tabs.) might also help. Homoeopathic meds are completely harmless to dogs. They either work, and work quickly and efficiently, or they just don't work at all.
612551 tn?1450022175 Thanks, I had seen some where making use of Benadryl antihistamine oral for dogs... making some adjustment for weight. Thus a 20 pound Westie would be a small fraction of a pill. I just now wonder too if the antihistamine oral might also be of some help with the skin.... I'll stick to one experiment at at time, otherwise the results can't be mapped to one action. I may try Gold Bond, that too had come to mind, in fact I tried a little a few weeks back and decided not to continue.
Avatar f tn Dogs can tolerate aspirin well, but I'd give him the low-dose aspirin or children's aspirin, 82mg vs 325mg of the full-strength. Also, get aspirin that is enteric coated, this will make it easier on the dog's stomach. There is a special aspirin called Ascriptin that is coated with Maalox. I don't know if it comes in the low-dose variety or not, but this would be ideal if it does. If not, just look for low-dose, enteric coated aspirin.
Avatar f tn Is it possible to become addicted to over the counter medications? My 75 year old mother recently moved to my town so that I could help her financially, etc. I have become very concerned about the amount of excederine, prilosec, nasal spray, aleve, and other antacid medicines that she takes. She has a history of bleeding ulcers, she smokes about 2 packs of cigarettes a week, high blood pressure, and other ailments of old age. I didn't realize that she was taking so much of this medicine.
1418633 tn?1314546745 Bill is right - Atarax/Vistaril/Hyrdroxyzine works wonders with the itching, but you need a prescription for it. Another over the counter med is Benadryl - readily available over here but not sure in India. In another thread some of us had commented on applying ice packs/cool towels which help in a pinch. Hope is subsides soon because it's really bothersome.
Avatar f tn I used to have them prescribed, but the prescription cost on the nhs was higher then buying them over the counter. .. I normally have zertec or cetrizeane (I think one of them is the same as pyrtine) ... my first appointment isn't for over a week yet, but.this is on my long list of questions to ask when I get there. Thank you for your help!
Avatar n tn Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine (reduces inflammation, helps with drippy nose and eyes from allergies, etc) Coricidin is an over the counter OTC drug. The DSM-IV is system for measuring the risk of substance abuse or for assessing mental disorders. You may be thinking of classification of narcotics? or pregnancy drug classification? OTC drugs are not classified.
Avatar f tn Anyone have experience with any over the counter depression medicine that works well?
2075937 tn?1334884194 And for the over the counter kind I've heard to get the 7 day
Avatar n tn Your Vet will have the best choices for congestion relief.....You don't state how old your pug is, but the excess fluids can related to many other diseases/ailments.....For example: If you use an antihistamine thinking it's an allergy when indeed it's really a heart problem, the antihistamine can make the heart worse, so you must get a diagnoses before you treat..... Licking air is usually Nausea or acid reflux....Post nasal drip normally causes a cough...
478554 tn?1208034407 antihistamine is over the counter drug for allergy problem, but increasing used for sleep aid
Avatar m tn You can ask your vet if it is ok to try some over the counter treatments first if things are not very severe. Otherwise, the vet may recommend a food trial or allergy testing. You can try to wipe off the paws with a wet cloth and then dry them after the dogs comes in from outside if there are any environmental allergens, like pollen/mold/etc that are directly irritating the feet. Good luck.
612551 tn?1450022175 Thanks, that helps and I am no longer giving Wilson the Temaril. I'd like to limit use of steroids anyway, guess my concern reflects the fact it needs to be prescription only. Still, my vet was willing to renew the prescription, when I looked at $27 for 20 pills (that's what I paid for the round he has already gone through, and he looks just fine now) I will see how Bendadryl works - I have one friend who stopped paw licking in a Terrier he has.
442658 tn?1563386491 first try get valium or temazepam, they are great for first few weeks , if a doctor wont give that to you, buy an antihistamine like phenergan or polaramine they are used mainly for alergy suffers but they make you VERY sleepy and they are non addicting and after taking them for a week the effects will wear off, you can get them over the counter
Avatar m tn Our rescue male Westie had a almost funny was to scratch his anal (area) itch. He would sit on the rough finish carpet and spin around, not drag. I too though it was a sac problem, but was not. His annual physical came to his aid. The vet raised his tail (the Westie is characterized by holding its short tail in a vertical) and pointed to a red rash area just at the base of his tail.
Avatar f tn An over the counter medication is any medication that can be purchased without a prescription "over the counter", but does not make the medication safer and needs to be taken according to the directions on the package and there is a need to be more vigilent and take into consideration individual health, the benefits versus the risks and potential interactions with any prescribed meidcations.
5079728 tn?1365549989 So any medication that you can go in and buy without a prescription is considered an over the counter medication. This would include every single med lined up on the shelves ..... pain killers, cough meds, diarrhea meds, nausea meds, stomach meds, anti-itching meds, everything. If I recall correctly, you have cirrhosis, so you really do have to be careful not to take anything that the doctor does not approve first.
4371309 tn?1357956329 My Dr at Kaiser said that the OTC and the ones they prescribe are the same. I didn't argue with her since she has the degree and just bough some from the pharmacy. When ever your next visit is with your OB check with her/him.
Avatar m tn I end up running out and going through withdrawals which almost kill me each time from lack of sleep, not being able to eat and drink. i need some sound solid over the counter advice cause pm meds and pepto nor immodium work so help me please I am alone and need help.
765828 tn?1306263868 , there could be a serious reason why this is happening, i dont mean to scare you, it could be that you are constipated and pushing to much, but if the bowl is filled up, i would call your doctor right away, and this way, they can rule out different causes and hopefully get to the problem, i wouldnt take anything over the counter until i was seen by a doctor, good luck, let us know how you make out.
Avatar f tn yes yes, I am clean from Vicoden, Antidepresants but still am using a sleep aid, have been using over the counter meds for sleep since the 80's then went to prescription sleep aid and now I only sleep 3 or 4 hours using them. I am going to go off them soon. My Dr would like to see me wait until Jan just because I came off two meds this year and had surgery's but please don't go to prescription sleep aids I think it is harder to get off them than OCT.
Avatar n tn It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn My symptoms lasted about 4 wks before I finally felt normal again. I continued to see the ENT who tested me for allergies (dogs, grass, dust mold, etc........). I came out w/mod to severe allergies. They started me on an allergy serum at least 4-5 months ago (supposed to desensitize me to allergens). So, for my question. I feel like I have the typical diagnosable sinus infection.
Avatar f tn My dr told me to take sudafed, it's s on my list that they gave me.
