antihistamine

612551 tn?1450022175 Wilson is what brought me to his Community, and I have learned a lot here and feel like I am among friends, people who love and respect pets (dogs in my case - though in a life-time that involved raising two human children we have experienced many varieties of pets).
Avatar f tn Benadryl is safe to use in dogs, and the dose is approx. 1mg/lb every 8-12 hours; I have used 25mg twice daily in pets slightly under 20# with no ill effects. In approx 10% of dogs, any antihistamine can unexpectedly cause excessive sleepiness, or paradoxical excitment, and if these symptoms occur, then the antihistamine is discontinued. Perhaps this happened to one of the prior rescue dogs when given benadryl.
612551 tn?1450022175 Thanks, I had seen some where making use of Benadryl antihistamine oral for dogs... making some adjustment for weight. Thus a 20 pound Westie would be a small fraction of a pill. I just now wonder too if the antihistamine oral might also be of some help with the skin.... I'll stick to one experiment at at time, otherwise the results can't be mapped to one action. I may try Gold Bond, that too had come to mind, in fact I tried a little a few weeks back and decided not to continue.
Avatar f tn Back from the Vet's. Molly's breathing problem, cough, whatever, is NOT due to the congestive heart problem. Vet said fluid from around her heart and lungs had subsided thanks to the Enalapril. It's her larynx...or what's left of it. We knew it was a problem, but it's severe now...no consolation that it is common in small breed dogs, especially those with "smashed" noses.
Avatar m tn I am still experiencing an allergic reaction to intradermal allergy skin testing. I have joint pain in my shoulder on the arm where allergy testing occurred. My skin is warm to the touch over the area tested and the skin marks where injections were done are larger though less raised than after the initial test. What should I do? I have applied a prescription steroid cream. I have taken my normal antihistamine. I have taken benadryl on top of it.
Avatar n tn How long can i use antihistamine for my daughter aged 7 months to relieve her of the eczema itching.
666921 tn?1254990618 I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it
Avatar f tn (( I hate to make her get rid of them although we may end up putting them outside eventually. The only symptoms I am having are bumps that itch. I don't have any trouble with sneezing, runny nose or sore throat. Is there any way they can stay in the house and get my symptoms under control? What steps can I take to keep them in the house? Also would Alegra help with my rash and itching or is that just for sneezing, stuffy nose and stuff like that?
Avatar n tn Some types of dog mites can be transmitted to humans. If present in your dogs, have them seen by veterinarian for treatment. In your case, cold packs and antihistamine medication may help with the itching especially when taken at night. Try to avoid scratching to prevent secondary infection. If it persists, have this evaluated by your doctor for proper management. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn I am severely allergic to dogs and cats. Asthma, runny nose, etc.; I break out in hives if one licks me. Been like this since childhood, though my symptoms have lessened over the years. I'm now 47. My parents got a dog a few years ago, but over time I have acclimated somewhat and now this particular animal doesn't seem to other me. I do not live with them, so my contact with the dog was sporadic. My wife would like to buy a dog.
Avatar n tn In june i hit my head and ended up with a concusion and again in november while steping over my dogs hit my head nockingmyself unconcious. I am not sure if the concusions have anything to do with it but I like to know if these symptos could be something more then just enviromental alergies. I use nasonex, and antihistimines, I was on prednizone 5mg and also was on singulair even though I do not have asthma my dr took me off nasonex and put me on flownase with no change.
Avatar f tn What my allergiest thought when I told her this was that the antihistamines were working because since I'm allergic to molds that when it is about to rain the mold spores count are higher, now I'm not sure sometimes I'm even dizzy in my sleep and this wakes me up, so I just take an antihistamine then and usually within a 1/2 hour I can feel the difference.
Avatar f tn After going to an expert dermatoglist who again stated just take medicine to control the hives - I ended up on Allegra, Claritin and Doxepin. My hives seemed managable mostly at this point but in October 2009 I stopped all antihistmaines to have a food alllergy test just to see if anything turned up there. Nothing did but I noticed my hives really improved after stopping all the antihistamines. Since then I have avoided taking any antihistmaines except for Benadryl.
Avatar m tn Background: I am allergic to dogs and cats and begin to wheeze around them. I can't breathe well in peoples homes with a few dogs or cats. I'm not even sure what it is about the animal that I am allergic to. The dander? The hair? something else? Well, anyway, that is not my question. Problem: I am currently seaching for a new apartment. The problem is that most of them take dogs and cats, or, one or the other. "No pet" buildings are few and far between.
Avatar f tn not life or death type allergies, but sneezing, itchy nose and eyes, headaches. I take a one a day antihistamine to deal with it. .. but it says on the box not to take if pregnant. Im only 7 weeks, and have stopped taking them... but my allergies are horrible at the moment. All the sneezing is not helping with my morning sickness. During my last pregancey my symptoms actually went away but not this time... my question is can i take my antihistamine?
Avatar f tn Uh, uh. No staying with a family who has cats. Asthma is a very serious condition. Decades ago, when I worked in the medical field I did not believe this. I took it ever-so-lightly. I was pretty dumb. An asthmatic attack can cause death. And once sensitized, there is no predicting the severity of the next exposure. The first time a person is exposed to an antigen there are serious symptoms. The next time, the same antigen causes the need for endotracheal intubation.
Avatar n tn It can be even easier than that. You could alway ask your doc to try free samples of Nasal Sprays for rhinitis, sinusitis. If it works than you know what it is. Then you need to figure out why it happens like if it is allergy or sinusitis and treat it more specifically if you want to. Once way to rule in allergy is antihistamine like Benedryl. If you take an antihistamine and it stops it's more likely rhinitis.
Avatar f tn My daughter brought her two little shitzu dogs to visit for a few days and had not treated them with the flea preventative that she usually uses, because the weather had been cold and she didn't think there would be a problem. Well, we had some warm days and the dogs brought fleas into the house. Both she and I have a bad allergic reaction to the bites and my husband does not. I flea bombed the house and am still feeling bites. I itch all over and develop bad rash.
Avatar m tn t know definitively, as I am not a vet, but it is just possible an antihistamine may help her.
Avatar n tn Shop around with local breeders and go in to the area with the dogs. If you can put your self in a room where other breed dogs have not been, stay with them where they sleep, you should know if you are allergic to that breed. This way you might find one that you are not allergic to at all. :) Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn t remember everything, but it was mainly grass, some trees, dogs, some molds. etc.. Grass was severe. I live in Tempe, AZ and it's pretty windy here right now.
Avatar f tn That was last summer when the woman across the street refused to treat her 3 dogs and let them roam the neighborhood. Every last dog they came in contact with was infested in about 5 minutes. When she moved out, the new owners were nearly eaten alive, and once they got everything treated there were no more flea problems. An occasional bath with flea soap along with Sentinel, and no problem.
