Avatar f tn Mine usually prescdibes macrobid for urinary infections

565147 tn?1218252591 Hi, “infections of the urinary tract are the second most common type of infection in the body. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) account for about 8.3 million doctor visits each year.* Women are especially prone to UTIs for reasons that are not yet well understood. One woman in five develops a UTI during her lifetime. UTIs in men are not as common as in women but can be very serious when they do occur. Normally, urine is sterile.
Avatar f tn throat infections, sinusitis, upper respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, etc. After you take finish the antibiotics for your dental procedure, I'd recommend you boost your friendly bacteria by eating yogurt, etc. as the antibiotics will zap your good and bad bacteria and possibly leave you more vulnerable to bacterial infections later on. Also, some antibiotics make you more photosensitive and so do the tx meds, so be extra careful in the sun.
385161 tn?1270081218 I keep getting infections and its driving me nuts!!! I have always been a very healthy person before pregancy i never had any of these infections, most of them i'd never even heard of help!! When I was 6 weeks pregnant i got my first yeast infection....then after the monistat i still had discharge and was diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis, i was given vaginal inserts again (this time prescription for bv.) so i finished that up and got another yeast infection....
Avatar f tn If you take antibiotics for your yeast infections I hope you take a good refrigerated probiotic after you finish your antibiotics. Bladder Infections, Vaginal Yeast Infections Probiotics can significantly reduce the incidence of bladder infections, especially in women. Most effective was the Lactobacillus rhamnosus as found in Theralac. There is strong evidence that when the vaginal flora (good bacteria) is reduced, bladder infections become more common.
Avatar f tn I have had dozens of urinary tract infections every year since I was seventeen (before I was ever even sexually active), and I've grown unable to really even notice them until they become quite bad. I never noticed myself feeling better when prescribed the macrobid any time during this year. I had a urine culture sent last week and I will be returning to my GP ASAP to see what the results of this were.
Avatar n tn Urinary tract infections are a very common outcome of rough sex without enough lubrication. I'm assuming you're using some sort of risk reduction and birth control? If not, you're leaving yourself vulnerable to disease and/or pregnancy. Always urinate after any sexual activity. This clears out the urethra of any potential irritants. Cranberry juice is also helpful in keeping your urinary tract healthy. Now get yourself to a clinic for antibiotics. And get tested. Again. Dr.
Avatar m tn Epididimytis and orchitis can take a while to clear up. I used to work as a heavy duty mechanic and the infections used to get so bad that I needed to be hospitalized for about 4 to 7 days being on antibiotics. In 1999, I decided to have a vasectomy in the hope, that by severing the vas, I would prevent infections from traveling into the testes. I ended up with complications and ended up loosing my left testicle. Since 2000, I have not had any infection in the remaining right testicle.
Avatar n tn Hello Dr Sylvester, Many Thanks for your reply. I'm surprised my doctor has not asked for a urine sample to do a culture test. Maybe he is waiting to see if the antibiotics work or not? How long does it usually take for the antibiotics to work? I really am in agony. It it one of those infections that gets worst before it gets better? Will it help if I take more of the antibiotics than prescribed? I'm worried about the thought of it being Chlamydia! I have all ways used condoms.
Avatar m tn Hello Butch_b Antibiotics are used if an infection is suspected. It is unusual to be infection for so long. Which all antibiotics you have been? Was there any discontinuation in the therapy? Epididymitis is a medical condition in which there is inflammation of the epididymis. Unusually infecion might not be the cause like in the conditions such as Reflux of sterile urine (urine without bacteria) through the ejaculatory ducts may cause inflammation with obstruction.
587946 tn?1240925653 The second question is------ are these frequent recurrent infections (infection that resolves on antibiotics then you get reinfected again frequently), or a persistent infection (one that never went away but gets suppressed on antibiotics, then returns off treatment)? Persistent infections are usually the same bacteria everytime, and means that there is a structural problem like a stone, blockage or other problem causing the infection to persist.
Avatar n tn Lemon and cranberry juice will help with urinary tract infections as a preventative in susceptible individuals but will not cure an active infection. Your dog's urine should really be checked for infection with a urinalysis. Please bring a fresh urine sample to your vet for analysis. You may not even have to bring your dog in for an exam if the urine is positive for a simple urinary tract infection (an infection without crystals). The vet can simply give appropriate antibiotics.
Avatar n tn There is nothing you can really do about the urinary tract infection except take the antibiotics. They may want you to take a stronger antibiotic (prescribed by your doctor) but being pregnant makes us more probable to have urinary tract infections. It doesn't become a problem unless you ignore it.
Avatar n tn The infection could be bacterial, yeast, or a combination. Usually urinary tract infections are accompanied by the symptoms of increased frequency of urination, and/or drinking, dribbling, or inappropriate urination. However, occasionally the only symptom is licking the vulvar area. It would be best to have your dog examined by a vet of course, but at least bring a fresh urine sample to your vet for urinalysis to help differentiate between a urinary tract infection and vaginal infection.
Avatar f tn In children without urinary tract infections 17.2-18.5% have VUR, whereas in those with urinary tract infections the incidence may be as high as 70% Age Younger children are more prone to VUR because of the relative shortness of the submucosal ureters. This susceptibility decreases with age as the length of the ureters increases as the children grow. In children under the age of 1 year with a urinary tract infection, 70% will have VUR. This number decreases to 15% by the age of 12.
Avatar n tn I have been to the doctor several times with urinary tract infections. I was hospitalized a year ago with kidney stones, kidney infection, urinary tract infection, and an infected gallbladder that had to be extracted. I cannot seem to get rid of the urinary tract infections as I have had treatment 7 times now within one year. I drink the pure cranberry juice as I have heard it helps fight off and prevent UTI's. Nothing seems to work.
Avatar n tn But, with recurring scar tissue every 3 months or so since my January 2007 surgery and constant tract infections, I have not felt well for almost two years. Is there a way to ward off the infections without antibiotics all of the time? What can I watch for? I have read that the scarring eventually will end, but being under anesthesia every 3 months is not a prospect that has helped my mental well-being. Any observations would be welcome.
Avatar f tn I am being treated for a urinary infections with both antibiotics (Cipro) and antivirals (valtrex) because the cause is unknown. My question is, is it safe to mix both medicines?
Avatar m tn It doesn't really sound like you have a "disease" per se, you keep having bladder infections. Probably nothing a good round of antibiotics wouldn't cure. But the round of antibiotics have to be taken for the full course not just until the symptoms disappear otherwise, it will rear it's ugly head again. If you have an infection, drinking tea is not going to get rid of the bacteria that have overtaken the bladder environment.
