Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics for dental infections

antibiotics

Avatar n tn I was treated with antibiotics (Augmentin) appx. 4-5 weeks ago for a very bad sinus infection. I felt better and then appx 2 weeks ago I developed more symptoms, dental (teeth) pain, headaches, extreme tiredness, ear congestion, and finally went back to the doctor. He said that my throat glands were swollen and gave me a different anibiotic. I have been on the antibiotics for 4plus full days.
Avatar m tn The sinus flush part was for the left side infection. Yes, continue with antibiotics for the dental infection, as those follow the usual medical model for infections.

Avatar f tn throat infections, sinusitis, upper respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, etc. After you take finish the antibiotics for your dental procedure, I'd recommend you boost your friendly bacteria by eating yogurt, etc. as the antibiotics will zap your good and bad bacteria and possibly leave you more vulnerable to bacterial infections later on. Also, some antibiotics make you more photosensitive and so do the tx meds, so be extra careful in the sun.
Avatar f tn m just curious, when your cats teeth have been cleaned by the vet, and extractions, do you have to give antibiotics for 5 days before the procedure? One of the vets in my town does it that way, and one doesn't, he only tells you to give the antibiotic after cleaning. My mother went into a nursing home, and I acquired her cat Friday. She hasn't seen another cat in ten years, so I have her locked in my bedroom, and she hides under the bed.
Avatar m tn Chronic hepatitis patients sometimes need to use antibiotics for unrelated infections and various surgical and dental procedures. Many are not sure about the possible harmful effects some antibiotics may cause their liver so below is a general guide: http://www.sinomedresearch.org/hcv/articles/c17_ABX.htm what do you think ? What you know about the antibiotics and HBV ? what antibiotics are safe to use ?
9624973 tn?1413016130 I had a similar situation a couple of months ago when I needed to take Amoxicillin to avoid some infections after dental surgery (required because I have a neck surgery that could also see infection after dental surgery). I literally gained 20lbs in 2 weeks after I took it. The good news is, my AST & ALT did not flare up so I was ok.... but I'm almost certain the antibiotics caused some fatty liver and caused me to gain weight when I was on the track losing it.
Avatar n tn It is also important that both cardiologist and anesthesiologist are present to monitor your child during the procedure. Aside from this, antibiotics are given prior to certain dental and surgical procedures to minimize the risk of cardiac infections. Although nitrous oxide, is generally safe, it is a mild and fast-acting sedative but it is also a weak anesthetic and has low potency. Patients are quick to recover and may also lead to myocardial depression in sick patients.
Avatar f tn You have already been taking antibiotics but the symptoms have worsened so you may need draining of the abscess and using antibiotics to treat non-serious infections and for a prolonged period can make them less effective at treating more serious infections causing antibiotic resistance. Amoxicillin is drug of choice.Metrogyl can be used as an alternative drug. A dental examination and X-rays are important for correct diagnosis and management of your condition.
Avatar n tn After dental problems are taken care of , you may need to see a tmj specialist. For the time being, pain killers and antibiotics are probably the best management.
Avatar f tn My 20 year old daughter has suffered repeated infections over the last 3 years which do not respond well to antibiotics and are slow to heal. She has been hospitalised twice with septicemia and the drug combinations and anti fungal drugs are too numerous too mention A cut caused by climbing led to osteomyelitlis of her middle finger on her right hand, eventually leading to amputation. She is currently hospitalised with a chronic foot infection, having severed her flexor (?) tendon a year ago.
Avatar n tn re advised to see your dentist or doctor about the infection. In the meantime, sinus infections are different than dental infections (which may require antibiotics). You can flush out the infected mucus with a Neilmed Sinus Rinse.
Avatar n tn I wouldn't. Amoxacillin is used to treat infections caused by bacteria. Swollen cheeks due to dental surgery has nothing to do with that. Stick with a more generic pain killer...like ibuprofen.
1399266 tn?1280637104 It is a tough situation. Antibiotics are for bacterial infections so unless the abscess is a secondary diagnosis to a bacterial infection, the antibiotics won't make it go away. On the other hand, if she reacts to anesthesia, putting her under to pull the tooth would be a problem. I would suggest further discussion with your vet so that fully understand the risks and benefits of both courses of action.
Avatar n tn A pulled tooth can result in numb toes, an overdose of anesthesia can last for two weeks and cause stomach problems. Root canals and dental infections can affect heart rate. Antibiotics can problem digestion. The answer is to do everything possible to stay away from dentist offices. Eat whole foods and not food products, especially the sweet ones that factories put on supermarket shelves to take your money and give you disease.
317787 tn?1473358451 Antibiotics and Chronic Liver Diseases Chronic hepatitis patients sometimes need to use antibiotics for unrelated infections and various surgical and dental procedures. Many are not sure about the possible harmful effects some antibiotics may cause their liver so I will try to provide a general guide here. The liver has very complicated functions and one of the most important is the detoxification of drugs such as antibiotics and its metabolites.
12182312 tn?1427683956 Hi. I can understand your concern. It sounds like you are worried that the dentists aren't prescribing antibiotics when you feel you need them. This can be frustrating. I have a few questions for you. First, what specific heart condition do you have? If you have a qualifying heart condition you may need to take antibiotics before and after each invasive dental visits, this includes cleanings.
Avatar m tn (had a lymph node in my neck because I had a dental issue I needed to address for quite some time. Addressed it, it went away). Being dehydrated can lead to frequent cold infections. You are a smoker. That puts you in a situation of some things coming about just from that and you have asthma and allergies on top of it. All of this contributes. Could you discontinue or cut back on smoking? You've been to the doctor and nothing major is panning out otherwise, right?
Avatar n tn For over 10 years I have been taking amoxycylin before dental scaling etc to prevent infections and wondered whether this was still necessary as a precautionary measure.
Avatar m tn I am having some kind of bacterial infection symptoms for more than 2 months now. Its upper throat burning and pain, mucus accumulation and a very week stomach. As antibiotics are not working as they should, I searched a lot for its causes, and found an article that root canals are extremely bad for our health in long term and cause many diseases. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/02/18/dangers-of-root-canaled-teeth.
Avatar f tn I also have a constant sinus infection unless I am on antibiotics. I just finished my second course of antibiotics on Thursday and have a horrible infections again already. My skin is pasty white, my eyes have huge black circles, so i look a little like Elvira, without the long hair, which is mostly down my shower drain right now. But I don't even care about that stuff. I would just love to get rid of the sinus infections and mouth sores. On Week 5 of victrellis, 31 more weeks to go.
Avatar f tn I do not know if antibiotics given at dental clinic prevents this chance of minor stroke thing or not, but I wish I did know. I went to a county dental clinic to keep costs down, and a couple times I asked for antibiotics since the tooth they were going to pull was swollen up big and I knew it was infected. They refused. As a result, I wound up with adenopathy in my armpit, which is a collection of infection, and the lymphs there hurt just like the ones can hurt in the neck.
Avatar m tn Hello everyone. I am in need of having to get some dental work done where I know for sure that I am going to be needing antiobiotics. Since my heart is so sensitive to stimulants such as, caffeine, asthma inhalers, choclate, antihistamines, and too much sugar and salt I am very worried about having to take these antibiotics for probably a week or so maybe even twice a day. My mom tells me that people die because of certain antibiotics.
Avatar f tn If he were human, there are quite a few remedies for gingivitis and mouth infections that work very well, but I am unsure what would be suitable for dogs. Some herbal mouthwashes work very well indeed. But again -that wouldn't work for a dog! So maybe the best thing would be for the vet to start him on a course of antibiotics to knock out the infection. However, the only real, lasting solution would be for him to have some veterinary dental work.
