Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics to treat urinary tract infections

antibiotics

Avatar f tn This time I had the protien, blood and the white blood cells, so he is sending it off to pathology to do more testing but has given me more antibiotics as well again. I have to ring him Monday if he doesn't ring me before. I think he is going to try a different antibiotic once he knows what he is dealing with. He thinks my problems with the UTI are caused due to my neurological problems. He gave me the run down on peeing, and then trying to do the second urination.
Avatar n tn There are plenty of reliable supplements which can provide adjunct therapy but nothing works as quickly as antibiotics, and since urinary tract infections can be painful I would treat her as soon as you can. Cranberry juice or capsules are a good supplement for the urinary tract as a preventative and adjunct therapy.

1666287 tn?1303207897 Women who are sexually active, who use diaphragms for birth control, and/or are past menopause are at an increased risk for urinary tract infections. Making a diagnosis of a urinary tract infection includes performing a urinalysis test, which checks for the presence of pus, white blood cells, and bacteria in the urine, which point to a urinary tract infection.
Avatar n tn Hi, I can understand your situation. Urinary tract infections are common in children. The usual approach is to treat the child first and obtain imaging studies of the urinary tract. Following birth, heavy colonisation with aerobic bacteria normally becomes established in both sexes. Because of the shorter length of the urethra in females there is a greater chance of getting urinary tract infection due to contamination from the anus.
Avatar n tn Go to a doctor and get tested for a UTI (urinary tract infection). This is very easy treat and requires antibiotics as prescribed by a physician. Because everything is so close down there (vagina and urethra) it's easy during intercourse to get dirt/sweat/etc rubbed into the urethra which can lead to an infection. In the future, try urinating after sex to clean out the urethra and reduce the risk of UTIs. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I have had dozens of urinary tract infections every year since I was seventeen (before I was ever even sexually active), and I've grown unable to really even notice them until they become quite bad. I never noticed myself feeling better when prescribed the macrobid any time during this year. I had a urine culture sent last week and I will be returning to my GP ASAP to see what the results of this were.
Avatar n tn Hopefully they gave her something other than amoxicillin because that anti-biotic takes a while to work and get rid of infections, but it does work. If an infection is not taken care of, with anti-biotics, it can spread, which is why I mentioned the kidneys. Though because she is being treated, it should not be anything to worry about. Make sure she takes all of the anti-biotics and she should be fine. Plus have her drink plenty of water and also cranberry juice.
Avatar f tn Cranberry Juice is suspose to help with bladder and urinary tract infections. I would also consult a pharmacist, or call the ER 24 hour helpline.
Avatar f tn The pyriduim numbs the urinary tract (and turns your urine an alarming orange color), and the cranberry coats your urinary tract, making it harder for the bacteria to grow. This does not take place of antibiotics if you still have a bacterial infection, but it does help you fight it. If you think it may from a fungal infection, start taking probiotics (acidophillus, lactobacillus, etc.
Avatar f tn This is a common thing with urinary tract infections. Think that could be going on? This is easy to treat! But you do have to go the doctor. They take a urine sample and test it for bacteria. If positive, they prescribe antibiotics that get you well. This article goes over common symptoms of a UTI: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/urinary-tract-infection/symptoms-causes/syc-20353447 Read that and see if you think this is you. Then you will need to see your doctor.
Avatar m tn my doctor now has advised me to go to a uroligist to see to my prostate. the situation is now very worrying as my wife is having severe headaches, nausea every morning as well as a very stiff neck. following my unprotected sex i had end march this year , i am still very worried i had/have an std and have passed it on to my wife even though i tested for 5 times for all std's since my exposure.
Avatar n tn Feed the cat foods that are very low in ash content to prevent crystals from forming, which irritate the urinary tract and lead to the infections. Other than that, once an infection has started, the only way to get rid of it is to use an antibiotic prescribed by a veterinarian. You said that your kitty gets these on a regular basis. Has the vet prescribed the same antibiotic each time she has had it?
Avatar f tn turns out i have UTI (urinary tract infection) . This is the 2nd time...im 14 weeks prego. Has anyone been thru this?? Twins are doing good btw...
Avatar n tn There is nothing you can really do about the urinary tract infection except take the antibiotics. They may want you to take a stronger antibiotic (prescribed by your doctor) but being pregnant makes us more probable to have urinary tract infections. It doesn't become a problem unless you ignore it.
565147 tn?1218252591 Hi, “infections of the urinary tract are the second most common type of infection in the body. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) account for about 8.3 million doctor visits each year.* Women are especially prone to UTIs for reasons that are not yet well understood. One woman in five develops a UTI during her lifetime. UTIs in men are not as common as in women but can be very serious when they do occur. Normally, urine is sterile.
Avatar m tn Most often it is related to urinary tract problems like kidney stones, inflammation of urinary tract, infections of the urinary tract, prostate enlargement, renal vein thrombosis, certain kidney tumors and polycystic kidney disease, blood coagulation disorders and anticoagulants. It does not seem to be related to testicular infections causing orchitis. I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep us posted on how you are doing. Kind regards.
