Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics used staph infections

antibiotics

Avatar n tn I just developed a staph infections it's all over my body and it just looks like I have a bunch of pimple and bites every where. I got medication for it but I was wondering how long it takes while on the medication for the symptoms to start getting better? And also how contagious is it? Like is it alright to go to work and out places and what should I do to try and not spread it to other people?
Avatar m tn t healed, the doctor should prescribe a second run of antibiotics (some infections take longer to heal than the doctor expected). If that has happened and still no positive result, the doctor should change the prescription to a different kind of antibiotic. The concern is, of course, that if the doctor has prescribed one or more kinds of antibiotic and the infection hasn't gone away, it is possible that the infection is resistant to antibiotic treatment.
Avatar m tn I have had reoccurring infections of various kinds over the past several years including styes, cysts in my upper thigh regions, nose, and now a golfball sized abcess on my back. I've been prescribed apo cephalex 4x daily @ 500 mg, and have been taking echinecea and doing hot compresses several times a day. Nothing seems to be helping so far, and when I went in to the clinic doctor, she said it was too hard to lance (on the 20th, it's now 11 pm of the 23rd)....
Avatar m tn Antibiotics prescribed to treat staph infections include cephalosporins, nafcillin or related antibiotics, sulfa drugs or intravenous vancomycin.Consult a dermatologist. Early diagnosis and treatment will be helpful. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn My wife has a staph infection she had to be admitted in to the hosp. She's on antibiotics throuh iv. Night she bumped the sore by acceident and puss came out and she is more pain than before is this a good thing that it is draining?
Avatar f tn MEthicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus infection - is a form of infection which is resistant to most of antibiotics used currently, there is limited number of antibiotics that actually treat it amongst which are Vancomycin, Clindamycin and etc. It is a very serious disease, If a patient is diagnosed with it he should strictly follow the dosing schedule of the preparations and never forget a dosage as the whole treatment might be ineffective after it.
Avatar f tn They have developed other antibiotics to treat it. However, they are stronger antibiotics and can be harder to take. Staph in general (MRSA or not) causes boils, impetigo, furuncles and mostly other skin and wound problems. Sometimes eye infections and other issues. Sometimes with impetigo you can get a mixture of staph and strep in the wound and you get a crusty sore which is easily spread. It also can produce blisters at first then become crusty. What does your infection look like?
Avatar f tn Has anyone bn in antibiotics during pregnancy? If so how far along were you? Had anyone taken azithromax 250??
Avatar m tn s not the end of the world, and MOST staph infections are easily treated with antibiotics. The media hype and scare about staph infections and the "superbug" stories really are overly dramatized. Even a "superbug" would respond to some kind of antibiotic, just not the more commonly used ones. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn The antibiotics I was given for the staph are a tad skeptical, it's a lower dose and strength of antibiotics I previously had been on for 5 years on and off... and was on them when I was "diagnosed" with staph several months ago... So I'm a tad confused on that one.
1570504 tn?1295634828 Are you saying she keeps getting staph infections? I take it she's been to the Dr and has taken antibiotics? The best thing to do is keep the area as clean as you can. Staph is infectious so you have to be careful with anyone she comes into physical contact with. It seems that people who get one staph infection are prone to others for some reason.
Avatar m tn Staph infections can be very difficult to treat. Staph bacteria can produce toxins and can cause various infections (wound, skin, toxins and if unlucky, septicemia/bacteremia). It may be killed by chlorine in the water but will not be killed on the skin especially if the bacteria is deeper and protected by the skin and tissue. The chlorine level may not be high enough to actually kill off the bacteria especially since some strains of Staph. auerus tend to be pretty tough.
Avatar m tn aureus can be normal skin bacteria it can also cause wound infections and so forth and some strains are very resistant to antibiotics (MRSA). Have you seen your doctor yet? If you have they should let you know what the treatment plan will be.
Avatar n tn But I know Bacitracin Ointment should NEVER be used on wounds with staph in them, as that is the type of stuff the staph is resisting and learning how to resist. I am pretty sure thats what happened to me, I think I had empetigo (another form of staph infection) and I used bacitracin on them sometimes, they NEVER seemed to heal. I used a lot of old MAKE UP and COVER UPs that probably contained bacteria as well, so my outbreaks were on-going. I just leaned that.
Avatar m tn The only possibility to treat resistant infections currently is with very strong antibiotics. And only your doctor may determine the correct treatment.
910014 tn?1242727443 Not sure if this is the correct topic....I couldn't find staph infections. My 24 year old daughter was admitted into the hospital with staph infection on her side. She had a fever and was in severe pain. They have her on antibiotics via IV. I am very worried I have read that this can cause a brain abcess or liver or kidney dammage. My question is; what to expect and are there any alternitives to the treatment she is recieving????? Help please.....VERY WORRRIED MOM!!!!
Avatar f tn I think you should see another doctor to get diagnosed by having either a culture done or molecular test to confirm that you have a staph aureus and/or MRSA infection. MRSA is just the form of staph that is more resistant to antibiotics. You don't normally spread staph aureus or MRSA by hugging because the clothes cover the area. So if the area is covered you should be okay.
Avatar m tn Staph is a common flora that is found on everyones skin and this is quite common. I too had my semen tested due to an ongoing situation and was told that staph was found.. my Drs told me that this is normal and nothing to be concerned about..
Avatar n tn Currently, my husband has a staph infection and is on antibiotics. This is number 4 outbreak in a year. He has never had any staph infection before and has an autoimmune disorder since his youth. He suffers from hypothyroidism and alopecia. Why now? How do we get rid of it and is this going to be an issue for a long period. As my son too has an autoimmune disorder, alopecia should I be concern for him as well?
Avatar f tn We both tested positive to having staph infections. He has been prescribed several anitbiotics and after the boils came back he was referred to a specialist and is now on special antibiotics for 12 months to try and rid his body of the infection. I got the first boil in March 2010 and have had two since. I get them on my lower stomach area. I have just had one drained today at the doctors and he told me this one was much deeper in the tissue and was a carbuncle, not a boil.
577106 tn?1219839345 I've been battling Several MRSA infections for several months now. I've been getting them on my face, head, scalp, neck, and arms. The abscesses have been treated with bactrim and augmentin, and have some success. They would knock it down for several weeks after I completed the antibiotics, but then would come back and I'd have to get another run of antibiotics. Currently the infections/abscesses are back and I'm about to start my fourth round in less than 3 months.
1259720 tn?1269635121 Hi, I too used to come down with UTI at about every 3 to 4 months requiring hospitalization. I have had both the Strep B as well as a staph infection. While I had a staph infection in 2000 the infection spread into the left testicle and I ended up having an emergency orchiectomy to have the testicle removed. In 1996 I was diagnosed as having a neurogenic bladder needing intermittant catheterization to ensure the emptying of the bladder.
Avatar f tn My boyfriend has had reoccurring staph infections for a few years on his penis, butt, hands, and face. He said that they had tested him to make sure it wasn't herpes, but he believes that was before he'd had sex with his previous girlfriend. He had another outbreak last summer, and didn't finish taking a lot of his meds.
Avatar n tn Your immune system has the ability to fight back, however it depends on the amount of the endotoxin substance in the blood stream. Antibiotics used to treat gram negative infections can sometimes be toxic to your body depending on the medicine. I've done my share of research on this ...my mother has been in the hospital for a long time. She picked up a gram negative bacterial infection in the operating room when she had her knee replaced. Has had 5 surgeries since...
Avatar n tn I swear, I have used it in the past and it seemed to clear up mild staph infections and small abrasions and wounds literally overnight! If this is what you have to spray on it now, I think you will see a great improvement in a short period of time.
