Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics used staph

antibiotics

Avatar m tn If someone has an infection and has had a full run of antibiotics and has taken the pills exactly as prescribed and hasn't healed, the doctor should prescribe a second run of antibiotics (some infections take longer to heal than the doctor expected). If that has happened and still no positive result, the doctor should change the prescription to a different kind of antibiotic.
Avatar f tn As the doctors diagnosed a staph infection and prescribed antibiotics before a skin scraping was taken, depending on how many days they have been on the antibiotics and if they were prescribed the correct one, the skin scraping may not show any bacteria now. If the 2 brothers got the rash after swimming at the pool, it may be a reaction to the chemicals in the water.
Avatar n tn My wife has a staph infection she had to be admitted in to the hosp. She's on antibiotics throuh iv. Night she bumped the sore by acceident and puss came out and she is more pain than before is this a good thing that it is draining?
Avatar f tn They have developed other antibiotics to treat it. However, they are stronger antibiotics and can be harder to take. Staph in general (MRSA or not) causes boils, impetigo, furuncles and mostly other skin and wound problems. Sometimes eye infections and other issues. Sometimes with impetigo you can get a mixture of staph and strep in the wound and you get a crusty sore which is easily spread. It also can produce blisters at first then become crusty. What does your infection look like?
Avatar n tn But I know Bacitracin Ointment should NEVER be used on wounds with staph in them, as that is the type of stuff the staph is resisting and learning how to resist. I am pretty sure thats what happened to me, I think I had empetigo (another form of staph infection) and I used bacitracin on them sometimes, they NEVER seemed to heal. I used a lot of old MAKE UP and COVER UPs that probably contained bacteria as well, so my outbreaks were on-going. I just leaned that.
Avatar f tn But within 24 hours, he had craters and eruptions all over his body. He got the big gun antibiotics at that point as the staph they said was in his blood stream. Antibiotics cleared it up in about 3 days. Completely. Thankfully. So, that is kind of a 'staph' story to give you perspective. My husband had something called cellulitis. See if this rings any bells. That too starts with staph or strep on the skin. A little break in the skin and the bacteria gets in there and takes off.
Avatar f tn Has anyone bn in antibiotics during pregnancy? If so how far along were you? Had anyone taken azithromax 250??
Avatar f tn MEthicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus infection - is a form of infection which is resistant to most of antibiotics used currently, there is limited number of antibiotics that actually treat it amongst which are Vancomycin, Clindamycin and etc. It is a very serious disease, If a patient is diagnosed with it he should strictly follow the dosing schedule of the preparations and never forget a dosage as the whole treatment might be ineffective after it.
Avatar f tn So, impetigo isn't really something you treat with over the counter products. It typically requires a prescription from a doctor of a topical antibiotic (like a cream you put on) or a pill if it is systemic (through body). It's basically a staph or strep infection of the skin. And it IS contagious. It's important he receive prompt attention (especially since you are mentioning his eye lid involved) but it needs to be a prescription of antibiotics from a doctor.
Avatar m tn Antibiotics prescribed to treat staph infections include cephalosporins, nafcillin or related antibiotics, sulfa drugs or intravenous vancomycin.Consult a dermatologist. Early diagnosis and treatment will be helpful. Best luck and regards!
Avatar f tn It was cleared up by antibiotics, however two weeks later I woke up and it began to become infected with staph again to the point where I could not talk. That cleared up again with more antibiotics, but another week later I woke up with the inside of my bottom lip and the middle of my top lip raw and very red. I tested negative for HSV twice, and I also tested negative for autoimmune diseases, and vitamin deficiencies.
Avatar f tn I think you should see another doctor to get diagnosed by having either a culture done or molecular test to confirm that you have a staph aureus and/or MRSA infection. MRSA is just the form of staph that is more resistant to antibiotics. You don't normally spread staph aureus or MRSA by hugging because the clothes cover the area. So if the area is covered you should be okay.
Avatar m tn Vancomycin and gentamycin in combination will cure staph infection as these are used when we deal with MRSA. Normally amoxycillin would do it.
Avatar f tn Since I posted my situation, I have been to see the doctor. I was diagnosed as having a staph infection called impentaigo. Staph can be picked up anywhere and can live very long on any surface. I contracted it from my husband (who most likely picked it up at the gym) when he and I used the same towel to dry our faces. I then, not knowing what it was, spread it to other parts of my body through scratching. The doctor prescribed a cream that specifically kills staph and MRSA.
Avatar m tn Hey guys, a while ago I had a couple of boils on my face, I went to the doctor and they just put me on antibiotics, saying they weren't completely sure what it was. Then after that the boils kept returned and I did some research on the internet and was pretty with it was a staph infection, then I got tested by the doctors and while they were kinda vague, was apparently a staph infection in my nose. That was almost a year ago, though I've had several minor boils since then.
Avatar n tn A friend told me today that her husband, who is a doctor, told her that with a staph abcess the standard of care is to NOT keep giving antibiotics??? He says the body walls it off and the antibiotics can't get to it. They are not draining and repacking it every day any more--they are letting it go a few days between packing changes. i sometimes have to change the dressing at home because it gets too gross. what should I be doing here?
Avatar f tn The antibiotics I was given for the staph are a tad skeptical, it's a lower dose and strength of antibiotics I previously had been on for 5 years on and off... and was on them when I was "diagnosed" with staph several months ago... So I'm a tad confused on that one.
2074873 tn?1331717462 The antibiotics may not have worked if the staph is resistant to these antibiotics. Can you scrub off the scab one time, and then put neosporin ointment on it several times a day.until it is gone. Wash your hands before and after or anytime you touch it. I would wash any towels, wash rags, clothes (like any jacket or other clothes you wear to cover it up) and anything that could have come in contact with it in hot soapy water and dry on hot. Don't scratch it or touch it and let it air dry.
453284 tn?1205793544 Unfortunately cystics are always fighting one form of infection or another. It is common for cystics to colonize bacteria as well, such as pseudomonas aeruginosa, staph aureus and others because the lungs are a perfect breeding ground for bacteria due to the sticky mucous. I personally grow out B. cepacia (not a very nice bug), staph, steno. maltophillia (sp?) and pseudomonas about every time they culture me. When I get sick, the colonies are usually much higher and I have to get IV antibiotics.
Avatar f tn A little less than a week ago I had sex with my boyfriend who I've been with for about 6 or 7 months. Before dating him I had only had sex with one other person, whose only previous partner had been a virgin. My boyfriend has only had sex with one other person (he stopped having sex with her a year ago, and from what I understand they always used a condom) and she'd had sex with a few other guys, but at that time she was young and dating young guys (14-15 years old).
Avatar m tn s not the end of the world, and MOST staph infections are easily treated with antibiotics. The media hype and scare about staph infections and the "superbug" stories really are overly dramatized. Even a "superbug" would respond to some kind of antibiotic, just not the more commonly used ones. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I swear, I have used it in the past and it seemed to clear up mild staph infections and small abrasions and wounds literally overnight! If this is what you have to spray on it now, I think you will see a great improvement in a short period of time.
Avatar n tn Hello~I think I would ask the doctor for a stronger antibiotic, or possibly see another physician, one that specializes in immune disorders. I would also increase your immune builder vitamins such as Vitamin C, B, D, A and the herb, Echnicea. Also, start taking some Propolis capsules, this is manufactured by bees and it works almost as well, if not better, than penicillin. You can get it at any health-food store.
