Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics and side effects

antibiotics

Avatar m tn Facial rashes, night sweats and the closing of my throat. That is when I stopped using Bactrim. All other side effects are gone except for the closing of my throat that comes on and off, especially when I'm done eating. It's been going on for 2 weeks (since my last bactrim dose). It doesn't make my breathing or eating any difficult but is just very annoying. It stopped for 2 days and happened one late night, 2-3 hours after drinking alcohol.

Avatar f tn Hi everyone! I'm a 2B and just started my treatment 2 nights ago with my first injection. It went really well, and I still don't notice any side effects (sx?). I am taking pegintron and rebetol. Is this normal? I have been reading about all the side effects and had me pretty scared, but so far, I feel fine??
Avatar n tn Erythromycin is notorious for goofing up the digestion. All in the world that has happened to you is, antibiotics kill all the bacteria, the "good" and bad, both. You need the "good" bacteria in your digestive system, to help break down waste. So, to restore good bacteria and thus better digestion, you need acidophilus, which is the probiotics you mentioned, and you can buy it either as acidophilus milk or "Activia" yogurt, in the grocery store.
Avatar n tn The treatment that you have been prescribed is correct. If you are having any side effects then get the antibiotics changed and even oral antibiotics can be added. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar n tn Only one tonsil was slightly swollen and red over a week, a couple of bits of puss, no pain and no fever - the doctor has not performed a swab test. I have read that the side-effects of this drug are commonly nausea and vomiting and as someone who has a morbid fear of vomiting, I am really reluctant to take it. Is it worth hanging on for another few days and seeing if it clears naturally?
Avatar n tn The rash has been treated with steroids, antibiotics, and antihistamines for the last three months and does not go away. It is painful and driving me nuts to boot. Any suggestions? Thank you.
Avatar f tn On your expertise, please advise me whether this could be potential side effects or a cold or flu I got from somewhere? It is side effects, when will I feel better? I'm so scared now because I might hace caught other STD, like HIV, and I didn't know. Today, diarrhea is gone. Thank you!
Avatar n tn My first question would be why are you on "quite a few" antidepressants? Second question, which ones and for how long have you been on them? I don't know if your weakness is caused by the antibiotics, the UTI, both, neither, all the meds your taking, all the above, none of the above..........My first inclination is to say no, it's not the antibiotics, but I'm not qualified to answer that.
Avatar m tn My question is that should I continue day 4 with the same dose or try 200mg 3 times or stop as probably the medicine worked on me already. Please help on this as I am super sleepy and paranoiac and this effects my job. I read horrible brain issues and probably i should reach out to ask other doctors for different method. It is very hard in Hong Kong. Thank you very much for your help.
Avatar f tn org/posts/STDs---STIs/Are-these-Azithromycin-and-Ciprofloxacin-side-effects/show/2996010# gardnerella also factor into the white tongue/lump in throat etc. (in addition to the antibiotics)? I cannot find a whole lot of information about gardnerella in men. On a side note, I am assuming the gardnerella was the cause of inflammation since I had tested negative for chlamydia and gonorrhea.
702036 tn?1259539116 You need to get rid of your infection first and foremost. As others have said, you might notice additional side effects but it comes with the territory. I took antibiotics for 7 days while on TX and it was a hard 7 days but it got rid of my infection.

Avatar n tn His dermatologist stated Claravis was not Accutane which was taken off the market and there were no side effects that we could not monitor with monthly visits and blood work. She also never recommended antibiotics, so this was not a last resort. I took her word and recommendation. I wish I knew better and will always feel guilty over the price my son paid for my taking him to this dermatologist.
Avatar f tn Are you pregnant? Macrobid is pregnancy category B--- used in pregnancy. Cipro, the gold standard is pregnancy category C--- not the best choice for someone who is pregnant. Amoxicillin isn't the best choice at all for a UTI based on the common bacteria that causes UTI's. Every infection is caused by a specific strain of bacteria. Some antibiotics are going to work better on different strains of bacteria.
Avatar m tn Hi Doctors, I made a bonehead mistake and may have taken an extra dose of my 100mg Doxycycline treatment. To be more specific, on day 10 of the 14 days I'm scheduled to be taking the antibiotic I may have taken 3 pills instead of two. I also mistakenly missed one dose on day 5 of the treatment but was advised not to take a "make-up" dose for that by my doctor friend who proscribed the treatment (he's currently out of the country which is why I'm writing now).
Avatar f tn Instead of coming off the the meds abruptly, think about coming off of the meds a step at a time over a period of weeks-to-months. There can be a problem with 'rebound' reflux and it can make a person miserable. So please factor that into your plan. Issues being reported with the use of PPIs and heart/electrical conduction disturbances, and this side-effect is now being noted on the 'side-effect' section of the patient handouts on these medications.
