Angiogram through the arm

Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram through the arm

angiogram

Avatar m tn I think that going through the femoral artery is the easiest and safest method, since the catheter will ascend directly through the Aorta, curve with it before entering the coronary branches. The arm track is more difficult, and the carotid is more risky. As far as I know, they are second option when the femoral artery is not accessible due to any injury.
Avatar m tn I had my Coronary Angiogram through arm 10 days back. Still, the bruise on the arm is still there and also the arm is paining a lot. Could you suggest any pain killers? -- Thanks & Regards Rachel.
Avatar m tn I had an angiogram through my wrist 4 days ago...they said they nicked a vein but that my arm will bruise. I had a blood pressure cuff around my forearm and the thing on my wrist. Its been very painful and is still a little swollen. Today the bruise is almost to to my elbow, now aching and my hand has began tingling.
Avatar m tn I had a CT scan a couple of years ago, and the report of the results commented on the blood flow through the implanted stent was as expected. Blood flow through the harvested grafts can be assessed as with any other vessel. Hope this answers your question. If you have any other questions or comments you are welcome to respond. Thanks for the question, take care.
976897 tn?1379167602 In my last hospital admission, I was speaking with a Cardiologist before my emergency Angiogram. I asked if the catheter could be put through my radial artery rather than the femoral. He said that it isn't a problem even though I've had a Cabgx3. When I got to the Angio-suite I was told "you cannot have anything except the femoral artery used because we don't have images of your bypass and we could take a wrong turning". Personally I find this crazy.

Avatar n tn The only test that is the most certain except for open heart surgery is the angiogram. The angiogram will give a very good indication as to what is going on. You are female so your hormones should protect you against heart disease or at least help protect you. When you go through menopause, the LDL levels will rise quickly. Usually, that it when the problems begin for women. I would think with the cholesterol medication you could get your LDL under control. Your LDL should be down to 100.
Avatar f tn I would consider having an Angiogram, but through your arm and not the leg artery. You have some calcium showing up on the ct scan of which I will translate for you. Halfway down your left main coronary artery (LAD) you have suggested moderate sized blockage due to the calcium detected. The word 'luminal' is in reference to the open space in the artery which blood flows through.
Avatar f tn Numbness is NOT normal. Call your GP or the hospital where you had the angiogram for further advice.
Avatar f tn I had an MRI done and it showed a 60% blockage in the left renal artery. They sent me for a catherazation through through the groin area and they didn't see any blockage. I do have a dull flank pain. I also now have high blood pressure.
Avatar m tn I would describe the pain to be mostly pressure/tightnes in nature, sometimes it could be sharp in nature, the pain shoots down my left arm. The pain lasts anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. I have been prescribed nitroglycerin to take as needed for chest pain and this medicine surely helps. I've had several EKGs and cardiac enzymes done which were all normal. I also had a threadmill/stress test done which was normal.
Avatar m tn Iam 31, 2 Months before i got the chest pain and I immediately rushed to the hospital. They did the ECG and found little changes in V4 - V5. And I went through the angiogram. The angiogram results shows negative. And doctor discharged from hospital with some prescription for 3 months. Still I am getting the pain in center of chest. Two days before I went to doctor and in ECG found the V6 changes in the lead.
Avatar m tn had angiogram done back in april of 2014, everything looked good.
Avatar n tn Thank you for the information. The test went well and the angiogram showed no heart or artery problems. We are now back to ground zero trying to figure out what is causing the chest pain and extreme fatigue.
Avatar f tn Hi, I underwent CT angiogram yesterday in another hospital and got the results today. My doctor is only available tomorrow. I would appreciate if anyone in the forum can explain the results to me. Thanks a lot! LV Functional Analysis: ED Volume is 139.4 cm3 ES Volume is 28.4 cm3 Stroke Volume is 111.1 cm3 Ejection fraction is 79.
Avatar m tn They then guide it to the left side and squirt a dye into the artery which is picked up by a scanner above the chest, giving images of your arteries. They then do the same on the right side. This is a test to see if you have any blockages in your arteries and the results are used to determine if you require no intervention, just medication, stents or bypass surgery. You will spend a couple of hours relaxing after the procedure before going home.
Avatar m tn Personally I would have the gold standard Angiogram with catheter simply because they can usually fix the problem during the same procedure if the disease isn't too severe. If this is heart disease, I can't emphasise enough how the smoking will harm you and make it worse. If you stop smoking, after just a few hours your blood oxygen will start to rise gradually and you will feel a huge benefit after 24-48 hours. A friend of mine has heart disease and smokes.
Avatar f tn It sounds like you have had the same issues I had. I went through three trips to the er in 3 mos. 3 or 5 trips to walk in doctors. EKG's were always perfect, blood work fine, bp and pulse fine. Finally had an angiogram where they found my LAD was bridged. They put a stent in and I was fine for a while. Now I am having symptoms again(they don't seem to be the same as before). I am wondering if it isn't something GI from the meds and probably even more likely just anxiety this time.
Avatar n tn of heart action and blood flow through your valves and arteries (called an angiogram). Doctors can see the number of blockages that you have and how serious those blockages are. In patients with CAD, coronary angiography usually shows a blocked artery that slows blood flow to the heart. BUT INDIVIDUALS WITH CSX, there may be an abnormal exercise stress test and a normal coronary angiogram, and the doctor may suspect cardiac syndrome X.
Avatar m tn I had seen an eye doctor becuase of vision loss in my left eye, i had my eyes fully diolated, and went through an eye exam. About 4 -5 days they performed the Angiogram, injected the dye into my arm and started to take photos of the eye. they didnt see anything that stood out so i was refered to the eye hospital downtown. About a week later i went down there had a full diolation done, and another eye exam.
Avatar m tn s assistant with coronary artery problems which have required several catheterizations in the past, just told me about his last angiogram in which they ran the catheter through the WRIST, via the radial artery. He said it was a piece of cake compared to his previous experiences. Here is more info about this procedure: http://www.oregonlive.com/health/index.ssf/2011/09/treating_heart_disease_through.
1213000 tn?1280463161 Some weaknes and loss of dexterity in both but I am told it is mild, although frustrating. they did not find the cause. I wonder what it was and if it could be connected to the angiogram knocking something loose then, when I exercied, maybe it came all the way lose and went to the brain? any thoughts? Should I be afraid of cardio exercise? should I have LDL aphreses?
Avatar f tn Do you have a Facebook or email that I can send you a picture of my results through? I don’t know how to send a picture through private messsge on here.
Avatar n tn An angiogram can be performed with a cath (intervention with a probe through the leg vessel to the heart), or ct scan (best is a 128 slice) that views the blood flow (dye has been injected) through the coronary arteries. There isn't a high risk with a cath, and it is not painful, but have an understanding with the doctor whether or not your father wants a stent implant if there is some blockage, and whether the stent(s) are drug coated or not (obtain an opinon what the doctor prefers).
Avatar n tn An angiogram involves, a catheter being inserted in an artery in your groin or arm and threaded through your blood vessels to your heart. Your doctor uses the angiogram to check for blocked or narrowed blood vessels in your heart. If this has not been offered, I certainly would ask for one, this is one of the "gold standard" tests for heart issues such as yours. I hope you feel better soon.
Avatar m tn t see where the blockage is, so a radioactive contrast dye is injected into the pipe so it can flow through with the water. An x-ray is taken at regular intervals to see inside the pipe, because it picks up the dye. This way you can easily see where the blockage is, and how big it is. An Angiogram is pain free, I've had 6 now. They use a local anaesthetic to numb your upper/inner thigh and make a tiny incision to access your femoral artery.
Avatar f tn 4 months post surgery my sternum was crunching. The Manubrium was in 3 pieces, the wires were going through the sternum, and the bones were not fused. I was told my sternum is small and thin and needed more than the usual wires to hold it. i wonder about thoracic outlet syndrome which is related to an extra rib or abnormal first rib. Although I dont have this, I think about the loose upper sternum fusing abnormally and causing a compression on the subclavian. Thank you for your interest.
