Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram in arm

angiogram

Avatar m tn m not a doctor but the pain in your arm is probably coming from your heart not your arm. In any event. this is NOT a good sign. Get a new doctor if you need to, or even another hospital but get help NOW!
Avatar m tn Has anyone had an angiogram with the catheter inserted in arm or neck instead of the groin? I don't think I could take the groin without serious nerve spasms.
Avatar m tn I would describe the pain to be mostly pressure/tightnes in nature, sometimes it could be sharp in nature, the pain shoots down my left arm. The pain lasts anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. I have been prescribed nitroglycerin to take as needed for chest pain and this medicine surely helps. I've had several EKGs and cardiac enzymes done which were all normal. I also had a threadmill/stress test done which was normal.
Avatar m tn I had a stent put in back in 2007, since then I have been having shortness of breath, pain in my chest that runs up in my neck to my jaw and down my left arm. This has been going on for several years. Within the last 2 years I have been diagnosed with diastolic heart failure, asthma, and copd. I can't do anything that causes stress or exertion without experiencing all these symptoms. PLEASE HELP.
Avatar n tn The doctors will be performing an angiogram to look to see if you have blockages in your coronary arteries (the arteries which supply blood to the heart) which are the cause of your slightly low ejection fraction and wall motion abnormality (which means that part of your heart isn't beating a vigorously as your would like). It is a simple procedure in which the doctors will pass catheters either from the arm or leg into the heart.
974371 tn?1424653129 After the local anaesthetic needle, which is just like a needle in your arm pain wise, I have always laid there waiting to feel them cut into me. However, every single time I have opened my eyes to see how far they've got, to find them already inside me. You never feel a thing. Two procedures out of 8 have been easier because they gave me some strong meds to relax me. You can request these. They say you have to be awake, but those meds knocked me out.
976897 tn?1379167602 In my last hospital admission, I was speaking with a Cardiologist before my emergency Angiogram. I asked if the catheter could be put through my radial artery rather than the femoral. He said that it isn't a problem even though I've had a Cabgx3. When I got to the Angio-suite I was told "you cannot have anything except the femoral artery used because we don't have images of your bypass and we could take a wrong turning". Personally I find this crazy.
Avatar f tn jlaracuente is right. An angiogram shows all the arteries and if one or two are blocked the drs insert a stent to keep it open. Sometimes if the blockage isn't too bad, they just use a balloon to push the plaque against the artery walls and don't use a stent. The angiogram itself is a series of "pictures". The patient lies down flat, you don't have to be sedated but can request sedation if you're really nervous.
1213000 tn?1280463161 In January of this year (2010), I had 4 drug eluting stents placed in the LAD. A week later two more stents, one in the RCA, one in the Ramus. On May 19, after a MRI stress test was abnormal and an angiogram showed diffuse restonosis of the LAD stents, I underwent CABG (4X). 10 weeks later, another abnormal MRI stress test and on 30 July another angiogram.
Avatar m tn I had an angiogram through my wrist 4 days ago...they said they nicked a vein but that my arm will bruise. I had a blood pressure cuff around my forearm and the thing on my wrist. Its been very painful and is still a little swollen. Today the bruise is almost to to my elbow, now aching and my hand has began tingling.
Avatar m tn There are angiogram tests that inject a dye substance in the blood stream and the perfusion can be monitored by CT scan, cath, MRI. I had a CT scan a couple of years ago, and the report of the results commented on the blood flow through the implanted stent was as expected. Blood flow through the harvested grafts can be assessed as with any other vessel. Hope this answers your question. If you have any other questions or comments you are welcome to respond.
Avatar n tn when you say you had a normal heart cath does that mean that the docs did an ablation on your or an angiogram? As far as numbness in your left arm and chest pain did it start after the test was done, before the test was done, how long ago was the test done....try to give us some more answers...and most of all why was the test done....................
20794198 tn?1534529493 I’m good with medical procedures, can sit watching blood being drawn from my arm, look at a catheter in my arm for hours. I’m not squeamish! I’m scared about the beta blocker that is given before, and how it make me feel. Will it make me feel dizzy? Will it cause arrhythmia?
Avatar n tn I had quadruple bypass surgery 13 years ago( using the left internal mammary artery grafting to the left anterior descending coronary) and recently had been having increasing jaw pains and upper back pains ( no dizziness or fainting). I had all sorts of cardiac tests (short of angiogram) that showed within normal limits Ejection fraction was normal but still I had these increasing symptoms of jaw pain relieved by rest.
Avatar n tn Now from last 2-3 months i am experiencing very mild chest pains with some numb feeling in my arm even if am not doiing anything but more so when i climb steps or do a little bit more straining. the pain is always mild though. this time when i had a little pain,I went to dr. office did an ECG, it showed ST FLATTENING and T wave inversion. gave me nitro..all pain went away..even with exersion i did not have any pain.My cardiac enzymes were negative..
1327726 tn?1274989263 With just the information you provide, I would not go with an angiogram. If you are having chest pains (angina), does a nitrate relieve the pain? If your chest pain (angina) is not relieved with medication, then an angio. Did you have symptoms that would lead a doctor to believe you may have had a heart attack? Troponin is the appropriate test if a heart attack is suspected?.
Avatar n tn t tell me why I am having these symptoms. I cannot walk up steps without having a rapid heart rate, left arm pain and heaviness in my legs. I'm just glad that I'm not the only one experiencing this. I hope you can find an answer so that you can get relief of your sypmtoms.
Avatar m tn My mom had the nuclear stress test and was told that it was not bad and a few months later she was totally plugged in two main arteries and about 99 percent plugged in the other. Have you had an echocardiogram yet? An echocardiogram can check the heart valves.
Avatar f tn Recently I found out that I have minor blockage in my arteries. I am on medication for last couple weeks now and I am waiting for my angiogram. The doctor has told me that it could take any where from 1 month to 3 months. Now I am having pain in my chest and my left arm almost everyday. Sometimes it goes to my back and my neck too. I have shortness of breath every now and then.
748902 tn?1286034758 I had an angiogram in January and the very nice nuurse in the hospital suggested that she freeze the spot where she was going to put the IV. She said I'd never feel the freezing needle go in (true) and not the IV needle either. How right she was! I would in future ask for that freezing first. Good luck and I hope you don't have anything too serious.
2152246 tn?1336525629 My reason to seek for a second opinion was that this Cardiologist was leaning too much toward Anxiety with the chest pains. And since she found an abnormality that I was born with in my 1st Angiogram I am not about to take any chances. I have just recently started with more chest pains symptoms, shooting pain down my left arm, feelings of muscle pain all over my body especially my chest and arms.
Avatar f tn I would consider having an Angiogram, but through your arm and not the leg artery. You have some calcium showing up on the ct scan of which I will translate for you. Halfway down your left main coronary artery (LAD) you have suggested moderate sized blockage due to the calcium detected. The word 'luminal' is in reference to the open space in the artery which blood flows through.

Avatar n tn Hello" I have a history of Heart dease> a genetic problem with my Liver producing high Cholesterol. I had a triple bypass two years ago. Over some time now my sypmtoms are the same as yours nut usually after getting up in the morning and bristly walking part of it to work. later in the day it seems much better and I can do a brisk wlk without too much bother. How ever" there is a problem as it was getting worse.
Avatar m tn how fast does the size of stenosis increase? or will it be controlled as a result of medication? Do I need to start worrying about stent or bypass now?
