Avatar f tn Diffuse Soft plaques seen in mid RCA causing moderate narrowing of its LUMEN.Catheter Coronary Angiogram Recommended. No other significant abnormality Now my father is adamant for not having catheter coronary angiogram done. Would 2D Echo - cardiogram with doppler help. He takes walk and has medicines prescribed by cardiac regularly alongwith ayurvedic medicines. PLEASE HELP!

685584 tn?1227113800 It is not for everyone as there is medication to reduce the heart rate (better images) below 60. It is as good as a cath for images.
Avatar n tn bih=661 With this image, imagine you are standing in front of a mirror looking at your heart. The right side of the diagram is the left side of the heart. Dotted arteries are at the back.
Avatar m tn Yes to everything. I think in the past, with the lesser resolution variations of this technology, it received a bit of a bad reputation because the images were not really sharp. The heart moves, which didn't help. However the 64 slice produces very clear images, and in 3D of all aspects of the heart. With an Angiogram, the blockages can only be seen once they reach a substantial size. In the 64 slice, you can see inside the artery walls, giving you a warning that disease is starting.
Avatar n tn wall, are especially common due to the overlap of the diaphragm with the heart muscle, yielding the appearance of reduced blood flow. Defects in the front of the heart heart are common in females with large breasts for the same reasons. The problem: The uncertainty inherent in nuclear stress tests opens the door to the unscrupulous or lazy practitioner. Any blip, tick, or imperfection on the nuclear images serve as carte blanche to drag you into the hospital for procedures.
17389007 tn?1456248518 too many risks. I did the running, instead of medication for higher heart rate. I just turned 66. No chest pain now that I've reduced my life's stressors. Overall study was good. Normal sinus rhythm. QRS: poor R-wave progression. ECG demonstrated Sinus tachycardia. Nuclear findings: Resting defect # 1.SPECT images demonstrate a small (1-2 segments) perfusion defect, of mild intensity. Located apical anterior. Stress defect # 1.
Avatar m tn If it was me, I would ask for a catheter based angiogram, unless there are some images that went with this report giving all the missing details. I wouldn't go by symptoms alone either, many people have heart attacks, feel nothing, then years later they discover patches of dead heart muscle. He should definitely have been put on aspirin by his Doctor, a statin ideally, and if necessary, blood pressure medication and beta blockers.
1491262 tn?1288413065 Once in the Aorta (large artery connected to output of left side of heart), he can go either into the left side of the coronary arteries, or the right. He will do both, but in no particular order. Once just inside, he will squirt some dye through the catheter to show up the artery. Your husband will be able to observe all this on a monitor above him. This will show where any blockages exist. The images are stored on a computer and the catheter is removed.
Avatar f tn The CT scan 64 slice is not the state-of-art for CAD detection. The CT scan 256 slice 3D images is very good as the images provide a view as if actually seeing the source. The 3D CCG differs from CT as it measures blood velocity to determine fault that may or may not be due to blockage but another cause. A cath angiogram has the advantage if there is blockage, the blockage can be stented at the time, and it is not painful at all!.
Avatar m tn This can indicate a very tight blockage of 99% or that you had a heart attack at some stage in the past, destroying some heart muscle. You definitely need an Angiogram now to get clear images of the individual coronary vessels so a plan of action can be decided.
Avatar n tn an angiogram is the images taken using a catheter, injecting radio isotopes into the blood vessels to show up on an imaging system. As I've said before, all procedures carry some element of risk but some are obviously much lower than others. Angiograms are about the lowest you can get, but by law you have to be warned you could end up with a stroke or other organ damage if some plaque is knocked out of place.
Avatar f tn Well I am still not certain. When I visited my cardiologist about 4 months ago, I asked if I could have a ct scan done of my coronary arteries to make sure the new stents are holding up. It was discovered through a stress echo that they are, but her reply regarding ct scan was "No, the trouble with ct scans is they don't show up smaller arteries clearly enough".
Avatar f tn I have had a ct scan angiogram and cath. My ct scan was more inclusive as it took images of the lungs, heart and thorax. It showed the complete anatomy of the heart vessels that included any soft plaque within the lining of the vessel. The ct software scored the soft plaque and evaluated the risk of a rupture. It also discloses any hard plaque within the lumen (vessel channel). The cath views the lumen for plaque, and has the ability to determine gradient pressures of chambers and vessels..
Avatar n tn It takes about 10 minutes after an injection of contrast medium and medication to lower your heart rate (slower heart, better images). The CT scan is more inclusive as it views the entire anatomy of the vessel, descending aorta and the respiratory system. The CT scan quantifies and calculates the degree of plaque within the 4 major arteries and provides a statistical prognosis related to a known data base with years of research.
Avatar n tn hello, my mom is 72 years old, she is type2 diabetic, hyper tensive and have ischemic heart disease, she has been adviced to go through angiogram and shunting after that. how safte it is for her, with her health background? will she survive after that, is it a dangerous procedure?
Avatar f tn s apex of a heart wall? Do you have symptoms for the ischemia? Have you been or are you being treated for chest pains (angina), and if so is there relief from angina with medication? Is there an expectation to do a stent implant during the upcoming appointment? Reading between the lines, it appears your doctor is expecting to do a stent implant. Some individuals do well with medication to treat symptoms usually chest pains.
Avatar f tn By any chance do you know if there is a significant difference in the number of images for an angiogram without stents vs the one that would have two stents? The hospital said that there are 6 discs for an angioplasty (2 stents) but only 1 disc for just the angiogram when they didn't place any stents. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Myocardial perfusion scan. During this procedure, you exercise on a treadmill or pedal a stationary bicycle. When you reach your maximum heart rate, you're given the injection. Images are made of your heart shortly after exercise and also a few hours later. This test shows how well blood flows into the heart muscle and can detect narrowing of the coronary arteries (coronary artery disease). Appropriate for vessel occlusions...ischemia that may cause angina (chest pain).
Avatar m tn Patient underwent Persantine PET protocol for 4 minutes and heart rate rose to 55% of the maximal age predicted heart rate. Stress EKG portion was non-diagnostic for ischemia. FINDINGS: Stress perfusion images show a mild reduction in uptake in the distal anterior wall and apex with normalization on resting images. This is suggestive of mild ischemia in the distal left anterior descending artery territory. Gated perfusion images show normal wall thickening of all myocardial segments.
Avatar n tn You would need a stress test or a CT scan of your heart ( 64/128 Slice Coronary CT angiogram ). Make an appointment with a cardiologist. Why do you think you have a clogged artery?
Avatar n tn probe the coronary arteries) or an angiogram can be the Modern CT angiograms that uses multiple detectors to capture images from different rotations of the CT scanner. These machines use 64 detectors or scanners which helps in reducing the scanning time and increases the efficiency to a high level. There may be a slight risk of cancer due to excessive exposure to radiation. But the advantage of a correct diagnosis outweighs this risk.
Avatar m tn QUOTE: "I've recently gone through a nuclear stress test that demonstrated a mild intensity inferior apical defect and was diagnosed with mild inferoapical ischemia. Please explain what all these mean and the operation involved." I'm not sure were Jon is going with his question, but a little medical history would be helpful, such as your symptoms...chest pains, shortness of breath, fatique, etc.
Avatar m tn You are awake and you can see the images. When they inject the dye you can feel a little sensation of warmth flowing through your body, but it really is nothing uncomfortable, it's quite a nice sensation really. If they find a blockage causing problems which is easy to resolve at the time, they will probably stent it. This is where a tiny collapsed metal mesh tube is fixed at the end of the catheter with a tiny deflated balloon inside it.
Avatar m tn The images produced from this scanner were mind blowing. You could see a complete 3D image of my heart along with blood vessels and how much blood they were carrying. The veins were there, just like bits of string, completely empty. I have to add tho, that I certainly knew when they collapsed. The very sudden shortness of breath brought me to my knees for about 20 minutes. Then angina returned as a common occurrence.
Avatar n tn The cath only views the lumen (vessel channel) for any lesions, but the ct scan includes the complete anatomy of the vessel. The highest risk for a heart attack is the soft tissue rupturing through vessel's inner lining and forming a clot and causing a heart attack. The exam takes about 20 minutes, as I remember, and there is a injection to lower the heart rate. For better images the heart rate should be below 60.
Avatar m tn Im 49 years old male with no history of heart problems. active, blood pressure and cholesterol levels ok. I recently noticed I get tired too quickly playing sports but not short of breath during normal activities so had EKG, echo and nuke test done I was shocked to see this result but my cardiologist used the terms possibility and minor Can someone tell me what this result mean, it doesn't say anything about blockage?
