Angiogram for heart testing

Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram for heart testing

angiogram

Avatar n tn No one can say for sure, but it certainly is a good starting point. According to the Journal of Nuclear Medicine; "patients with unequivocally normal stress myocardial perfusion SPECT studies have a <1% rate of having a future cardiac event (death or acute myocardial infarction)" That on the back of a clean angiogram would make me feel pretty good, however if you are experiencing symptoms, you may want to run it past your cardiologist.
Avatar n tn I had a CT angiogram for heart this week. Compared to a regular angiogram or catheterization , the CT angiogram can be considered a noninvasive procedure. However, in your dad's case the CT angiogram may also be considered risky because of kidney problems. His kidneys may not be able to deal with the dye used for CT angiogram. I am not a doctor so here I am just giving advice based on my on experience.
Avatar f tn No other significant abnormality Now my father is adamant for not having catheter coronary angiogram done. Would 2D Echo - cardiogram with doppler help. He takes walk and has medicines prescribed by cardiac regularly alongwith ayurvedic medicines. PLEASE HELP!
678571 tn?1228012270 He passed away about a month after the angiogram, in his sleep. Appears that the angiogram weakened his heart and especially the side of his heart that circulates the lungs.
Avatar f tn I also had the heart palps and had a visit to a cardio for an angiogram and found I was fine...it was all the mis firing of the nerves from the compression....I have not had an issue post op.... But, it is best to rule it out with these tests, plus it gives u a reference chart if u should have issues in the future....so u drs will be able to compare. Good luck with the testing.
Avatar m tn CT scan 64-slice angiogram as well as a cath angiogram is by definition an angiogram as both involve a dye injection, but there is more intense radiation exposure with CT angiogram. It is fast becoming the radiological test of choice to look at disease of blood vessels. The next generation of a ct scan will reduce the individual's radiation exposure. The ct angiogram involves an assessment of the body of the vessels as well as the lumen.
Avatar f tn I have been started on a beta blocker. Will follow up in 3 months for med review and one year for heart check. No restrictions on activities. Of course, I now have many questions but I will give myself a break and save them for my med review. I hope you are doing well and enjoying Thanksgiving. I wish you the best for the coming holiday season. Thank you for all your support and advice. I'll keep in touch and you do the same please.
Avatar n tn The answer is yes, symptoms of breathlessness and chest pressure can occur in a New York Minute as blood clots can erupt quickly within your heart arteries. What is your doctor recommending? I suspect you are a candidate for for a Catherization. I try and work out almost every day, and went through a period of time where I had very active Cardiac Artery Disease (CAD).
Avatar m tn I know my specialist prior to this suggested that my cardiologist will need to do some invasive testing of the heart. I had asked him whether or not he was refering to an angiogram. He basically said that an angiogram wouldnt be necesary on an underweight 21 year old. He told me an invasive test to evaluate the chambers of the heart would be more appropriate. Correct me if i'm wrong, but isnt that test called a Catherisation? I thought a catherisation was another name for an angiogram?
Avatar f tn but the Dr said that to ABSOLUTELY rule out ANY other heart problem he could do the CT angiogram for the sole purpose of feeling comfortable putting me on a stronger heart regulating medicine (instead of the beta blocker) and by do so enabling me to go OFF the blood thinner. It may be the perfect echo that prevented the approval. I just found out from a voice mail yesterday, so I will find out more about the reason. Thank you so much!
Avatar n tn I am 34 years female, who has 2 kids. I had severe chest pain radiating to my arm a year back when i was gardening and was starining myself. I rested and it went away immedietly. since then I did not have any pain.. Now from last 2-3 months i am experiencing very mild chest pains with some numb feeling in my arm even if am not doiing anything but more so when i climb steps or do a little bit more straining. the pain is always mild though. this time when i had a little pain,I went to dr.
17389007 tn?1456248518 too many risks. I did the running, instead of medication for higher heart rate. I just turned 66. No chest pain now that I've reduced my life's stressors. Overall study was good. Normal sinus rhythm. QRS: poor R-wave progression. ECG demonstrated Sinus tachycardia. Nuclear findings: Resting defect # 1.SPECT images demonstrate a small (1-2 segments) perfusion defect, of mild intensity. Located apical anterior. Stress defect # 1.
Avatar n tn Usually, doctors ordered an EKG test for heart rthymn, then an echocardiogram to check the heart valves and listen to them, then off to the stress test on the trendmill and another echocardiogram to see what it shows during exercise. If these tests look abnormal, the doctor will order an angiogram. The angiogram is the best procedure and provides the most knowledge for blocked arteries. If needed, they can also measure the pressures in the valves during the angiogram.
Avatar m tn If you can afford the angiogram, by all means, have it done. As reported, it is the gold test. Why not establish a baseline, or determine what might be a question?
Avatar n tn "The CTA is essentially a useless bit of technology that was first touted because of its high resolution. Without exercise testing, the CTA shows a great picture of anatomy, but is useless in giving us any information whether the patient will benefit". >>>>What benefit is the expectation??? What are you talking about? Unclear. I can tell you the CT scan is not useless. It can dx a condition in ER within minutes that often took hours and sometimes days.
Avatar f tn s office is setting up my appointments for blood donation, etc in preparation for my mitral valve repair. I was very surprised that he is not ordering a catheritization (angiogram) because of my age and the fact that I do not have any risk factors. I am 42 years old. My cholesterol is 237, HDL 106 (yes that is correct), LDL 118, Triglycerides 65. No family history of heart disease. I have a parent who had 6 bypasses, but was in his 80's. They insist that I do not need one done.
Avatar n tn at first he got heart burn .he went to the doctor after 1 week .ecg was taken and it showed variations .doctor asked to take an angiogram .is there anything to fear ,since father says he doesnt feel any fatigue or breathlesness .but sometimes after 1 month he says he is feeling little brethless sometime .please clarify me about the nature of disease.
Avatar m tn I talked to my Cardiologist this morning and he explained that my stress test results were very clear that I had a restriction that he needed to look at by an angiogram and most likely fix with a stent. So any other testing wold be redundant. So I am going in for the angiogram next week. I just wanted to say thanks to all who replied, these forums help a person like me learn and understand what to expect.
Avatar m tn Which one is the more accurate measure that needs to be used for making cardio-management decisions (for example, do I need an CRT or a CRT/ICD, etc.?) My estimated is 35% and calculated is 29%; Lately I do have mild Atrial Arrithmia that just developed after an episode of 2-wk long sever cough of upper chest; the cough has been completely gone for about 6-8 weeks now.
Avatar n tn The doc has me set up two days after my stress test for a heart cath. How many stents can be put in? He seemed concerned but I have had no discomfort, chest pain or shortness of breath or tiredness. How long do stents last? I heard that the medicated ones from Boston Scientific are not all that great.
Avatar n tn Just to add, the risks with angiogram are miniscule. It is so rare for heart attacks or stroke to occur. If a heart attack does occur, what better place to be? I had severe disease in 2 arteries, and I mean severe. I've had 8 procedures in one leg, and one in the other. I've never had any problem. If there is a problem in a procedure, it's more than likely going to be due to human error.
