Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram heart attack

angiogram

Avatar n tn Hi Judy- very interesting question. You have mentioned several issues and I will address them separately. 1. Stress cardiomyopathy (CM)/"heart attack" - We see this quite often. Stress CM has several other names - "Tako Tsubo"/"broken heart"/apical-ballooning CM. It refers to a condition where (mostly) women develop chest pain after suffering some sort of emotional or physical stress, and the EKG and blood work suggest a significant heart attack.
Avatar n tn differences between 83 yr. old woman suffered heart attack need angiogram and 45 yr woman suffered heart attack need a balloon angiography who should go first and why?
Avatar n tn s more commonly called an angiogram or heart cath. They look to see what or if the heart attack caused damage. In my case, the new blockages weren't bad enough to require any intervention. (Stents or bypass surgery). I was kept in the CCU and watched for the next 3 days. It is common to be just "watched" during this time frame. Stay hopeful. I think your friend will be fine and sent home soon. Of course, there will be many lifestyle changes and need for meds.
Avatar n tn He has been suffering with this pain for a long time and is very stubborn refuses to see a doctor until today. He previously had a heart attack 8 years ago and 3 years also had his heart jump started as it had gone out of rympth ---- he now does not want to go to the cardioligist -- would this condition lead to a full blown heart attack. He is out of breath with just taking a few steps. If he wants to do anything physical he just cannot do it as the pain comes back and the exhaustion.
Avatar m tn CT scan 64-slice angiogram as well as a cath angiogram is by definition an angiogram as both involve a dye injection, but there is more intense radiation exposure with CT angiogram. It is fast becoming the radiological test of choice to look at disease of blood vessels. The next generation of a ct scan will reduce the individual's radiation exposure. The ct angiogram involves an assessment of the body of the vessels as well as the lumen.

Avatar m tn My father died at 40 from a heart attack. My brother at age 36 just had a heart attack (three arteries blocked, and one was small from birth, heart will be at 85 percent for rest of life). 2) I do have high cholesterol 220, and have been on medication since I was 23. No change. Diet is ok, but needs to change. I used to smoke, for about 10 years, but done with that. 3) I have had numerous EKG, a couple of stress test and one echo done all normal.
Avatar n tn My Dad had a Stent placed after a heart attack one week ago. He has been having jaw pain all day. Should we be worried?
1327726 tn?1274989263 Troponin is the appropriate test if a heart attack is suspected?. When a patient has a heart attack, levels of troponins can become elevated in the blood within 3 or 4 hours after injury and may remain elevated for 10 to 14 days. New Troponin-I Range 0.00-0.14 (normal) 0.15-0.49 (intermediate) >0.50 (positive). Your 0.12 is within the normal range!
326176 tn?1239515689 What is the best form of investigation to assess the presence of blockages following a heart attack> I have come to know that expert doctors can predict with a relatively high degree of proficiency the possibility of blockages just by viewing ECG picture or an Echocardiogram of a patient.
Avatar n tn I know there are the invasive ones such as a cardiac cath, as far as non-invasive, I think that possibly an ECHOCARDIOGRAM can show some blockage, also, I think an MRI can as well.
Avatar f tn Thanks for responding:0) The spasm was dx'd after the angiogram was completed and they determined that it wasn't a heart attack...no damage done to my heart. But they didn't see it on the angiogram. I think the cardiologist made the guess after the angiogram didn't show much. They monitored me closely throughout the test. I didn't realize they set a guideline for how far to push the heart. Thanks, that answers my question!

Avatar n tn They did an ECHO stress test and found some blockage in the back of my heart. They then requested me to do an Angiogram for them to see better in to my heart. I did and I was sent home after 4 hours. They said I am OK. Thats all. I saw my cardios letter while I was with my own GP.
Avatar n tn If you go to the hospital in the next few hours, they can run a troponin blood test which will inform them if it was a heart attack or not, even if you have no pains now.
Avatar m tn About two years ago I woke up in the middle of the night with great pain in my left arm and it felt like my throat was closing, It passed after about 10 mins. abot a month later I was walking up a hill checking out my hunting grounds before deer season cut a few branches and the pain was back buut much worse this time I laid on the ground for an hour in great pain until it passed again.
584692 tn?1218267447 Certainly felt like a heart attack. Just turned 50 - 64 kilos in weight and 5 foot 7. Certainly not overweight and if anything underweight. Have lost heaps of unintentional weight in the last 12 months. 6 weeks ago after suffering from chronic bronchitus and constantly coughing, ended up getting angina for the first time in my life - twice and spent 2 days in hospital.
Avatar n tn The Interventional Cardiologist told me just before the last angiogram that she thought I had a mild heart attack, which really scared me as no one else had actually told me that. The angiogram came back all 12 stents were totally patent, and said I was good to go.I don't know who to believe, other than trying to get my hospital blood tests for raised enzymes and see once and for all what's going on with me.
1702104 tn?1307226854 i had a heart attack in 2008 and in december 2010 i had an unstable angina attack after which my consultant sent me for an angiogram during the angiogram i was the 1 in 500 to suffer a cardiac arrest since then everytime i lie down to sleep my heart starts racing this last until i have been up and moving for 15 mins i then get a tightness in my chest its not painful just uncomfortable
976897 tn?1379167602 Just had angioplasty for a heart attack and thought I would post the experiences so others can hopefully benefit in some way or other. It was last thursday morning when I walked upstairs to the bathroom. I felt very light headed, so much that it was a real effort to not pass out. I had chest pains on a scale 1-10 (8) which would not go away even when I was relaxed. Sweating was incredible, I haven't sweated so much in all my life. No palpitations and no shortness of breath.
776302 tn?1241091853 Thanks for the wonderful explanation. I don't want an invasive angiogram. I has slight chances of stroke, heart attack, irregular heart beat, etc. I don't even want the slightest chance of getting a stroke again. They are the scariest things I ever went through. Thank God I didn't get any permanent damage. So I will take the 64 slice CT scanner because it has no chances of getting a stroke, etc.
Avatar f tn The internet resources suggest that such a defect could be indicative of a prior silent heart attack. Is this true? Are there any other possibilities? What is the treatment?
Avatar m tn HI The good news is there is no damage to your heart muscle, which means the things you read on the internet do not apply to you. Those statistics normally relate to people who have dead heart muscle from a heart attack. Your latest echo proves your muscle is fine. You seem surprised that this has happened at your age. It is becoming more common now. When I was 46 I had my first blockage, but others were seen during the angiogram which had been there for many years.
Avatar f tn This may have been a small heart attack or maybe a certain type of heart attack where your heart has narrowed vessels that then don't provide enough blood flow under conditions of stress. CT angio is good if you have a very low suspicion for coronary disease and want to rule out significant blockages. I would not say you are low risk for coronary disease given your story and troponin elevation.
Avatar m tn I would get a second opinion. There is generat agreement that occlusions don't require any intervention unless there are symptoms. If you go ahead with a cath angiogram be prepared to be stented. There are doctors that rationalize that after the intervention process they might just as well stent even if the blockage is less than the recommended by AHA/AAC of do not stent implant less than 70% blockage, if blockage is more than 70% treat with medication if there is angina (chest pain, etc.
Avatar f tn my mother had a heart attack at the age of 60 and my brother had one at the age of 40 and then a fatal heart attackl at the age of 51.
