Angiogram test heart disease

Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram test heart disease

angiogram

Avatar f tn i have a family history of heart disease i have just been in hospital with chest pains mainly when i'm walking up stairs i had a tredmill test my blood pressure droped after 5mins & the test was stoped i then had an angiogram which showed plaque disease and a few ventriclar ectopics i have high cholestral 6.
Avatar n tn Had an angiogram in 2009 showed 50%blockage. Had a stress test 2 weeks ago suggesting an 80% blockage. The angiogram was completely clear 2 days ago. Have lost over 100 lbs. between the 2 tests. Could that cause the first blockage to disappear and show the stress test unreliable? Could undiagnosed thyroid disease be an unerlying problem since ekgs are abnormal?
Avatar n tn I assume you had some kind of stress test? either stress echo or a nuclear scan? I say this because unless you match the heart motion in 2 states, relaxed vs stressed, you can't tell if it's reversible or not. So, you have 2 good words here 'mild' and 'reversible'. Mild means the heart wall is not affected much and reversible means the lack of blood flow is only occurring when the heart is under load showing there is sufficient flow at rest.
Avatar n tn Would a clear angiogram 2.5 years ago and a clear nuclear stress test last year indicate good heart health. I sometimes get bad shoulder pain an I worry it is related to my heart.
Avatar m tn CT scan 64-slice angiogram as well as a cath angiogram is by definition an angiogram as both involve a dye injection, but there is more intense radiation exposure with CT angiogram. It is fast becoming the radiological test of choice to look at disease of blood vessels. The next generation of a ct scan will reduce the individual's radiation exposure. The ct angiogram involves an assessment of the body of the vessels as well as the lumen.
Avatar n tn The coronary angiogram report must include much more about the severity of the disease. What did his doctor say?
Avatar m tn Recently referred to cardiologist by family doctor mainly because of abnormal ekg. After battery of test including nuclear stress, dr said heart ok but some irregularities. Told me I needed angiogram but this seemed to be more based on the old records of heart attack which he said showed a 50% blocked left artery which he said may be 90% now but could not say for sure. I have hardly any angina symptoms but am overweight and out of shape- 6ft, 230 lbs.
Avatar n tn The chest or thoracic CAT scan can give clear pictures of the heart and lungs. Damage to, or disease in, the heart, which could be a sign of many different cardiac problems. The CAT scan may also reveal signs of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The ct angiogram provides a calcium score of the 4 main arteries individually and a total score.
Avatar n tn If you are experiencing symptoms of heart disease like chest pain and pressure, shortness of breath etc.. then I would go straight to the angiogram as that's what you'll need to do next even if your CT comes back clean and you are still having symptoms, it's the only way to rule out your heart as the cause. If your CT comes back showing the possibility of blockages, then you'll need an angiogram to determine the extent and place stents if necessary.
Avatar m tn wat to do in these situation? please advise me. In the angiogram test Doctors replied that 3 blocks and even they intimated us 2 valves were damaged. please advice me wat to in these situation?
Avatar n tn Usually the next step is a stress test, unless that has been done, then you would have an angiogram which is the gold standard. EKG's are a an 8 second view of your heart while it is beating away. Unless it is read by a Cardiologist, it isn't always very accurate. If you do in fact have an anteroseptal wall ischemia, there are degrees of severity, in my opinion. Keep in mind, I'm not a health professional, but have had a lot of angiograms and problems.
Avatar n tn You would need a stress test or a CT scan of your heart ( 64/128 Slice Coronary CT angiogram ). Make an appointment with a cardiologist. Why do you think you have a clogged artery?
974371 tn?1424653129 From what you describe, it sounds as if you had a positive echo treadmill stress test, based on some changes on your EKG, as well as some changes in the motion of your heart as seen by exercise echocardiogram. Generally, the stress test is a screening test for coronary artery disease. The next step is a coronary angiogram, where they will be able to visualize the arteries that supply blood to your heart (coronary arteries), and determine if there are any blockages or narrowing.
Avatar m tn The reason I had to have a nuclear scan is that the LAD was blocked at the top and there were different gradients of disease all the way down the vessel. My Cardiologist wanted to see if any heart muscle had died or low on blood supply. From what I understand, ct-scans produce far more exposure than angiogram. I've had over 10 angiograms now and still feel fine.
Avatar n tn my mother is suffering from chest pain now Doctor is saying to go for angiogram test?
Avatar m tn I found another doctor. I think the angiogram is too invasive since I had no symptoms of heart disease and after comunicating with ken keith here on med help who urged me to have a nuclear. With the new doc the nuclear and echo showed no clogged arteries. Will return in one year for follow up. The tests showed my left ventricle was only functioning at 40% instead of 60%. Started on a beta blocker. No restrictions on activities. Have the nuclear is my choice. Good Luck.
Avatar n tn A nuclear stress test is about 85% accurate in finding CAD whereas a angiogram is 100% accurate. The angiogram also carries a 1 - 3% risk of complications, the most common risk, although very rare, is having an artery dissected during the procedure which results in emergency bypass surgery. Having said that, if I was told I needed one I would do it without hesitation. It is the gold standard of heart tests to determine if CAD is present.
Avatar m tn Your doctor knows the major limitation of the stress test approach is that it requires high-grade stenosis to indicate heart attack risk. And high-grade stenosis, while a good indicator of advanced arterial disease, is NOT the major cause of myocardial infarctions (heart attack).
Avatar n tn Does a score of 308 on a cardiac calcium scoring test indicate coronary artery disease?
Avatar n tn t have much to worry about. A fixed defect on a stress test often means there was a heart attack in that area in the past, though not always. It could just be artifact, especially in the territory you describe, so it may be nothing. Reversibility does suggest ischemia, or poor blood flow to an area of the heart which is still alive. My best advice is to sit down with your cardiologist and review the study. Hope this helps!
Avatar n tn But during angiogram there would be very little visible coronary disease. The heart function would be moderately diminished, and the tip of the heart (apex) takes on the appearance of a bulged out balloon -- it looks like a Japanese squid urn (Tako Tsubo). This condition is overwhelmingly benign, meaning that most patients recover over short period of time (weeks to months) with FULL return of heart function.
Avatar m tn Mild diffuse disease proximal to distal vessel with ectasia. Please may lead me does my husband need a bypass surgery? Is he in risk of sudden heart attak?
Avatar m tn Animals with an enclosure which enabled their normal social structure resulted in no heart disease. Animals in inadequate enclosures developed heart disease quite rapidly. You would think that with the cost of treating heart disease, governments would try to make society a more pleasing place to live.
Avatar m tn The CT is noninvasive, and it would give you either information that you are developing heart disease, or it would give you piece of mind that you are not. Either answer would be useful to you.
Avatar m tn How is cardiac microvascular disease diagnosed since typical tests only show blockages to the major arteries? This discussion is related to <a href="/posts/Heart-Disease/Pacemaker-Findings/show/718014">Pacemaker Findings</a>.
Avatar n tn It is also a major cause of disability. There are many different forms of heart disease. The most common cause of heart disease is narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries, the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart itself. This is called coronary artery disease and happens slowly over time. It's the major reason people have heart attacks.
Avatar m tn To put this really simply, it means there is heart disease at work. Reversible means the blockages are not total, and no heart muscle is damaged, so intervention with stents or bypass will make things much improved. If the blockages are not severe enough, they may try to help with medication. I think you will be required for an Angiogram next to see the exact extent of the disease.
