Angiogram test complications

Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram test complications

angiogram

Avatar n tn A nuclear stress test is about 85% accurate in finding CAD whereas a angiogram is 100% accurate. The angiogram also carries a 1 - 3% risk of complications, the most common risk, although very rare, is having an artery dissected during the procedure which results in emergency bypass surgery. Having said that, if I was told I needed one I would do it without hesitation. It is the gold standard of heart tests to determine if CAD is present.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the response! He is on 40 mg torsemide and Koreg plus another med. he uses a nebulizer for breathing too. Doctor called today and wants a CT Angiogram. Nurse said possibly angioplasty but we won't know until after test on Thursday. To top it off he fell tonight and really banged himself up. We see heart failure clinic PA this week too. Thanks for your response. Praying for an answer that he can handle!
Avatar n tn I had an angiogram 7 weeks ago with no sign of blockages, yet I am in constant pain, which worsens when I try to lift. I cant even walk fast and am exhausted, dizzy and nauseated. I had only chest tightness and and mild pain before the test, but was exercising and working, now I am leaving the house only to go to Dr.s appointments.
Avatar f tn t have one get one) to schedule a ct angiogram. If your insurance approves it, it is a very accurate test and is not invasive. I know stress and anxiety can make the pain worse, but I would make sure by having every test to give you peace of mind. I had a stress test, EKG, Echo, Bloodwork, Chest X-ray, Angiogram etc and all were "normal." I didn't get any answers until I had a heart cath.
Avatar n tn t have a problem after an angiogram. I flew on airplanes 3 days after my angiogram.
359574 tn?1328360424 My test went well yesterday. We only stayed a total of 5 hours at the hospital start to finish. My aneurysm is confirmed, and the interventional neuroradiologist who did the test said it of a shape that can't be coiled, but must be clipped, if it needs to be fixed. I will call my neurosurgeon Monday for a follow-0up appointment. Meanwhile, I get to take it easy for a week while the collagen seal on my femoral artery gets nice and solid.
Avatar n tn A carotid MRI showed that I have about 50 percent blockage. A stress test revealed an abnormal EKG, with about a 4mm drop in the curve between the pulses. I have a history of high cholesterol and am currently on a cholesterol reducing medication as well as a medication to reduce blood pressure. I was offered several options as the next step and opted for a CT angiogram.
Avatar f tn What test determined your EF factor? An Echo and stress test is pretty accurate, but a stress test is just an approximation. You will know a lot more about your heart health after the procedure, they will determine your EF factor during the Angiogram. Your heart arteries will be mapped, any abnormalities noted. I have advanced CAD, and have for close to fifteen years. I wasn't very careful with my health until fifteen years ago.
Avatar n tn They thought my stress test from Indonesia was abnormal. They did an ECHO stress test and found some blockage in the back of my heart. They then requested me to do an Angiogram for them to see better in to my heart. I did and I was sent home after 4 hours. They said I am OK. Thats all. I saw my cardios letter while I was with my own GP.
Avatar f tn You answered the question yourself. These are not high risk findings on a 30 year old's stress test and given the very low prevalence of obstructive atherosclerosis in your age group it is probably a false positive finding. A more common problem would be an anomalous coronary artery or HOCM. The latter can be diagnosed via an echocardiogram but the former usually requires a left heart catheterization or a CT angiogram of the heart.
Avatar m tn I have another angiogram scheduled. My Cardio DR. is concerned because of a "strong family history" of premature CAD. Here's my history and question. 3/21/14- Unstable anginia and abnormal stress test. Admission to hospital and given angioplasty due to a 90% blockage of the LAD. Diagnosis says:" successful ad hoc PCI to the LAD with a single resolute zotarolimus eluding stent with good results. No complications.
Avatar m tn People can have an reaction to the nuclear stress test. The test is not perfect. The only true test, which is a procedure, is the angiogram. My mom had the nuclear stress test and was told that it was not bad and a few months later she was totally plugged in two main arteries and about 99 percent plugged in the other. Have you had an echocardiogram yet? An echocardiogram can check the heart valves.
Avatar m tn The tests indicated a blockage. I am now waiting for an angiogram. They put me on drugs after the test. I am on 1.25mg Monocor, 5mg Norvasc, 10mg Crestor as well as ASA 81mg - one per day. Now I wait for Angiogram. I am quite freaked out. So I am scheduled for an angiogram on Feb 5th. They tell me there are risks in this test. The risk is 1 in 1000 people die, stroke or have a heart attack during this proceedure. My question is this, Should I get a 64-slice Coronary CT Angiography?
Avatar m tn I had a triple bypass in Aug 2007....is there a test that would indicate how those grafts are holding up.
Avatar m tn You have established a baseline with your recent test, and your subsequent test can be revealing of any heart problems. You are not on any great risk for a silent heart attack based on the information you have provided so you can relax. Hope this helps put you at ease and not worry. Take care.
Avatar n tn H/O IWMI on 26/03/16. 2D echo showed 60% EF. Coronary angiogram revealed tVCAD with fair LV function. I want to know that his heart condition. Please reply me as soon as possible because my father does not feel well.
Avatar n tn You would need a stress test or a CT scan of your heart ( 64/128 Slice Coronary CT angiogram ). Make an appointment with a cardiologist. Why do you think you have a clogged artery?
Avatar f tn I was in ICU for congested heart failure that came about very suddenly without any symptoms prior. Given blood test, chest x-ray, EKG, echo and then a cath angiogram. The diagnosis was very little blood flowing to the distal portion of the heart. It was believed if the 98% blocked RCA was stented there would be more blood to that portion of the heart. The 100% blocked LAD had developed collateral vessels for a natural bypass, and circumflex is 72% blocked (no stent).
Avatar n tn my mother is suffering from chest pain now Doctor is saying to go for angiogram test?
974371 tn?1424653129 From what you describe, it sounds as if you had a positive echo treadmill stress test, based on some changes on your EKG, as well as some changes in the motion of your heart as seen by exercise echocardiogram. Generally, the stress test is a screening test for coronary artery disease. The next step is a coronary angiogram, where they will be able to visualize the arteries that supply blood to your heart (coronary arteries), and determine if there are any blockages or narrowing.
Avatar f tn My husband is 66 and recently had a SPECT Myocardial Perfusion Imaging Study (stress test). It was essentially normal, with the exception of the following: "there is a moderate sized reversible defect of the inferior and apical walls". The left ventricle was normal in size and the ejection fractions were 57% at rest and 63% post stress. The internet resources suggest that such a defect could be indicative of a prior silent heart attack. Is this true?
