Angiogram for heart valve

Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram for heart valve

angiogram

Avatar n tn I had a CT angiogram for heart this week. Compared to a regular angiogram or catheterization , the CT angiogram can be considered a noninvasive procedure. However, in your dad's case the CT angiogram may also be considered risky because of kidney problems. His kidneys may not be able to deal with the dye used for CT angiogram. I am not a doctor so here I am just giving advice based on my on experience.
Avatar m tn the doctor ordering this 64 slice told me if this test showed any blockage i would then have something to show my cardiologist and then i would need to have conventional angiogram for further investigating. can someone please help explain the differencebetween the 64 slice ct scan over a conventional angiogram and are there any advantiges over one or the other?
Avatar f tn Yes, a ct 64 slice scan angiogram is as good as a cath angiogram to view the anatomy of the vessels. Cath angiogram only views the lumen (cavity) for blockage, but a ct scan views the entire anatomy of the vessel and trhat would include the buildup of soft plaque between the inner lining and the upper layer.
Avatar f tn Have the doctors diagnosed the valve with an angiogram? An angiogram should be done before any surgery to find out exactly what is going on. They can pressure the pressure in all valves. My mom was to have the aorta valve replaced and the triscupid valve fixed. When the doctor did the surgery he found that the Mitral valve needed to be replaced also. He was not able to get the aorta valve replaced. All her organs shutdown after surgery. She was 70 and did not survive.
Avatar f tn An angiogram is to determine if the underlying cause for less than normal EF and FS is associated with ischemia (blocked coronary vessels). It appears the valves can be ruled out as the underlying cause (an echo is the best test for valve integrity and functionality) as trivial and mild are considered insiginificant.. An angiogram is a test that injects a contrast dye into the blood stream and takes images of heart vessel blood flow.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your response. According to my thoracic surgeon, approximately 30% of people my age have some coronary atrterial blockage. He has said, since he's going in anyway for the valve, we might as well check on the arteries and, if there is any blockage, handle it at the same time . It's the physician doing the angiogram that has indicated he wants to put in a stent. I'm not really hot on the idea of being on blood thinners when I go in for valve replacement.
Avatar n tn @ "You will probably need monitoring (1x/year?) to see if the situation worsens over time." I mean the situation of the aortic valve.
Avatar f tn What is the difference between a CT angiogram and a heart catheritization. Which is better? I had a CTA of the aortic arch and neck. I've been having discomfort for weeks but the CTA was fine. I also have moderate mitral valve regurg which the doctor said does not need repairing. So I am confused as to what test give the best information for blockages,etc....
Avatar n tn He was diagnosed with angina the week before and went for an angiogram. He now needs a triple heart bypass. On his notes it says Sever TVD. What does that mean?
447939 tn?1235061943 hi someone has posted on the anxiety forum which has spooked all us health anxiety sufferers (i am not going behind his back, a couple of us have posted back to him but he hasnt replied) anyway he had chest tightness and had an EkG and stress test both of which were normal but he pushed for an angiogram which showed a 99% blockage stent?? anyway a few people have severe heart anxiety including me and are freaking thinking the tests we had arent good enough and we all need angiograms.
686233 tn?1227213145 In 2004 I had a test done that showed build up inside a valve. I went to a heart specialist who didn't seem to think it was anything. Since then I have had more chest pains, heart feels like it's beating out of my chest, fatigue, sometimes I get short of breath and nauseated from the fast heart beatings and pain. Do I need more test run? Do I need to find another doctor? And if it was build up, how long can it take to block my valve?
Avatar f tn Thanks Sir for your valuable comments. We went for the echo test sir. They said the same heart pumps blood difficult. Already my mother undergoing treatment for past five years for lungs due to pneumonia issues. We asked whether the heart has any heart attack blocks due to this. As suddenly last month she had sever pain in heart admitted in hospital. They gave this above report in ECG. Now they says to take angiogram test.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed yesterday with a leaky valve after having had an Echo Heart Scan. Having read up on this today, and realising that the symptoms I have been experiencing - shortness of breath on occasions, angina attacks, extreme tiredness, palpitations, swelling of my ankles etc. may have been due to this condition and not as I thought to a blockage I had in my artery, which is now clear.
Avatar n tn congenital heart defects, rheumatic fever, radiation and medications. This can be a serious condition because it can weaken the heart. If the aortic valve is narrowed, the left ventricle has to work harder to pump a sufficient amount of blood into the aorta and onward to the rest of your body. In response, the left ventricle may thicken and enlarge. Lifestyle modification as mentioned above is highly recommended. Regular follow-up to your doctor will help in monitoring.
Avatar n tn This using a doppler technique will establish just how badly the valve is leaking. An Ultrasound report will give a statement for each valve in the heart, i.e. trivial regurgitation, mild, moderate or severe. If stenosis is the problem, then I think the cardiologist is correct in saying surgery should be performed, but only if it is at the mild stage. If it's still trivial, then there's no need yet.
Avatar f tn Mitral Valve - mild mitral regurgitation. Aortic Valve is trileafiat-mild aortic valve sclerosis without stenosis. Moderate-to severe aortic regurgitation present-no evidence of aortic stenosis. The perfusion images show medium sized area of moderate to severe intensity mid and basal inferior wall predominately fixed defect with minimal reversibility. No significant left ventricular myocardial ischemia at the work load achieved. Overall left vent.
Avatar n tn hello, i've had open heart surgery to repair the pulmonic valve (stenosis), as a child. i've been seen by doctors who tell me it is ok to exercise, even though i have a mild leaky pulmonary valve, and moderate diastolic dysfunction. it seems to take the entire day to recover after my swim (masters swim program), and my breathing is quite rapid all day long. could exercise worsen those conditions? please help - if anyone experiences these symptoms.

Avatar n tn my dad was 50 ,he had a mild heart attack in the month of may we were referred to a cardiologist who did angiogram and they found 2 valves blocked and 1 valve was 80% blocked and the other one is 30% blcoked he mentioned valve which is 80% blocked is CA and needs attention and he mentioned other one which is 30% will be fine by taking medicine...he advised angioplasty for the valve thats 80% blocked so as suggested we did a angioplasty and my dad was fine for 2 months .on one unfortunate day .
Avatar f tn I have just been scheduled for an angiogram and I'm scared to no end I have a 3 year old son I love to death same as my soon to be wife. I'm so scared something will go wrong during the surgery how coming are complications? Also my ej is 73 is this bad?
Avatar f tn t present you with any symptoms. The valve between the two right chambers in your heart has a slight leak. However, some of the newer breed of Cardiologists are starting to investigate Mild leaks. The reason is, if an ongoing infection for example is the cause, it can quite quickly turn to moderate, and then severe. Valves are best dealt with at the earliest possible stage.
Avatar n tn Heart failure is the inability of the heart to pump an adequate supply of blood oxygen into circulatory system to meet the system's demand. The result is often shortness of breath, muscle fatigue, angina (cheat pain, etc) would be the must likely symptoms. Your latest echo echo left ventricle size normal, overall function well preserved. focal region of dyskenisis involving basal septum and akinesis of basal inferior wall, EF is normal.
Avatar n tn It gives better resolution for the structure and functionality of the heart and doesn't have tissue density problems like an echo scan, because it's taken from inside your body. If valve functionality for example looks suspect on an echo, they will usually perform a TEE to give a clearer picture.
Avatar f tn No visible cornary heart disease. The patient does have diastolic dysfunction.
Avatar f tn s office is setting up my appointments for blood donation, etc in preparation for my mitral valve repair. I was very surprised that he is not ordering a catheritization (angiogram) because of my age and the fact that I do not have any risk factors. I am 42 years old. My cholesterol is 237, HDL 106 (yes that is correct), LDL 118, Triglycerides 65. No family history of heart disease. I have a parent who had 6 bypasses, but was in his 80's. They insist that I do not need one done.
