Correction, meant to say:... The CT scan is angioplasty ( an "angiogram") and a cath angioplasty is unnecessary unless there is going to be (an agreed stent implant) as a cath would only verify what the CT images show. The CT scan is more inclusive than a cath as it views the anatomy of the vessel, respiratory, aorta, etc. as well as the lumen...the cath only views the lumen unless there is ultra sound attached to the probe.
The doctor found 100% blockage in right artery and went through a angioplasty for the right artery but while the angiogram he found 2 more blockage in left and main aorta.Doctor gave us two options first angioplasty and second bypass.
As bypass is a megor oparetion so i think angioplasty is more suitable. But wnat to make sure that should we go for an angioplasty in this condition or not.

In the mean time, I am having pains in between the shoulder blades, which I was told is due to where the angioplasty was done. They want to repeat the Angiogram to see how things are. I am worried this may cause tissue damage,etc.
I will need a angiogram done when the stent is availiable so is it benificial to have one now if there is no treatment to fix the problem now?
There is a difference between an angiogram and angioplasty. Angiogram is a diagnostic procedure! Angioplasty is therapeutic meaning treatment.
Usually, or almost always the diagnostic procedure (angiogram) is performed before there is treatment.
I have to have a valve replaced and am having an angiogram to see if there is blockage to be treated at the same time. The physician doing the angiogram has indicated he will put in a stent if he finds blockage. My feeling is that this is unnecessary as the major advantage of angioplasty (less invasive than bypass) is totally irrelevant since I'm having a valve replaced anyway.

My father had an angiogram, and 2 angioplasty procedures with a total of 3 stent placements in the past 4 weeks. He had an allergic reaction to something following the last angioplasty----swelling of jaw, face, and generalized swelling and itching all over. That has resolved but starting suddenly 2 weeks after the last procedure, he has severe, generalized joint stiffness and pain. His right knee is swollen and very painful.
Your Cardiologist will have to have a careful look at your latest Angiogram and make some important decisions based on the current situation. Are your symptoms bad? has the closure of this vessel completely stopped blood flow to a portion of your heart muscle? Angioplasty has moved on a lot in 16 years, can they re-open the original blockage for which that graft was done?
Many cardiologists seem to prefer angiogram. I've had both a ct angio and an angiogram and I didn't feel any difference between the two. I still had the same burning sensations from the dye etc in both procedures. I did look at the images from both scans and the angiogram shows everything in real time, actually working. You see the blood flowing, you see the heart pumping and you see the reactions of the arteries. With the ct angio all I saw was a set of still pictures.
my mother 65 years old had a heart attack 30th jan 2011 and she was admitted in the hospital and taken angiogram on 3rdh feb 2011 by 4pm having 2 blockages in 100% and 95% imediately the cardiologist asked me whether you want to do angioplasty or bypass surgery and i decided to do angioplasty the cardiologist did medicated angioplasty with 2 stem and she retured home on 5th evening and she did well in on 7th morning 1.
They just wanted to do an Angiogram to see if there were any problems. That is when they found the blockages. My Dr,s were shocked to find them. I had 1 stent put in, and an Angioplasty in the other due to I need a 2 mm stent that is drug eluding, but it is currently not availiab... Since then 11/04 , the stent is now offered. My symptoms have improved, and I feel no pain. Is it wise to still have the stent placed?
You will have to wait for the results of the angiogram. Blockages can be treated with bypass surgery, but in many cases with minimal invasive angioplasty (stenting) or with medication.
Dependent on the outcome of the angiogram and taking into account your grandmother's physical condition and the fact that she has has bypass surgery before, the cardiologist will advise what the best option is.
Your comments and opinions are much appreciated. The angiogram/angioplasty procedure for my mother-in-law has been postponed. She is keen to try the chelation therapy and we hope it works for her and she will get better.

He was undergone a Treadmill test, a few weeks ago and the Doctor observed borderline positive Treadmill Test and suggested an Angiography. He undergone Angiogram a couple of days ago and the report said that the Right Coronary Artery is 100% blocked. According to the Cardiologist, who performed Angiography, the blockage is old. But, my father has no pain (Angina), no fatigue and other common symptoms of Coronary Artery Disease. He’s perfectly alright.

I am a 70 year old male. 17 years ago had angiogram/plasty which went badly resulting in emergency bypass . 8 years ago had heart attack, treated with 3 days on heparin. 4 years ago had partial colectomy and 6 months chemo. Have peripheral neuropathy in legs and hands from FOLFOX.
For the last 6 months I have been very fatigued after little exercise. Mostly sedentary and 30 lbs overweight. Blood pressure good but slow pulse and can't take beta blockers.
Artery, it was suggested the risk factor was too great for Angioplasty as my Right Coronary Artery was smaller than average ( it would seem I was born with this). Because of the extent of the blockage and the abnormal size of the Artery the risk factor is increased as they could split the artery during this procedure. I was assured that should this happen they could convert to Open Heart Surgery.
It has been suggested I should now have the Angioplasty and I am a little nervous.

I had a CABG about 3 years ago, and still I am having on and off chest pains and cardiac related problems. Recently underwent another angiogram and discovered my Circumflex had a blockage and it has to be done a stenting procedure. But my Cardiologist couldn't do it through the right leg as I had developed heavy scar tissues due to 3 angiograms done in the past.. Some doctors denied this failure.
I have another angiogram scheduled. My Cardio DR. is concerned because of a "strong family history" of premature CAD. Here's my history and question.
3/21/14- Unstable anginia and abnormal stress test. Admission to hospital and given angioplasty due to a 90% blockage of the LAD.
Diagnosis says:" successful ad hoc PCI to the LAD with a single resolute zotarolimus eluding stent with good results. No complications.
Had angiogram( 2 stents & 1 balloon angioplasty) and two days later couldn't get a deep breath. Monitored in hospital overnight, no medications given or IV. After on oxygen awhile breathing better but now five days later still can't always get deep breath. Hospital did another echocardiogram and blood enzymes and it was all very good. Oh, one heart enzyme was slightly elevated, but could be from the procedure. Good rhythm and strong beats..
Was the angiogram a CT scan? It seems if the angiogram was a cath intervention through the coronary vessel a stent implant would have been done at the time to save money and reduce the risk?! Generally a lesion greater than 70% and medication doesn't relieve symptoms, then a stent implant. Sometimes a stent implant is not an option due to location, etc. and a bypass may be the only option.
