Angiogram angioplasty procedure

Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram angioplasty procedure

angiogram

Avatar m tn There is a difference between an angiogram and angioplasty. Angiogram is a diagnostic procedure! Angioplasty is therapeutic meaning treatment. Usually, or almost always the diagnostic procedure (angiogram) is performed before there is treatment.
Avatar n tn My father had an angiogram, and 2 angioplasty procedures with a total of 3 stent placements in the past 4 weeks. He had an allergic reaction to something following the last angioplasty----swelling of jaw, face, and generalized swelling and itching all over. That has resolved but starting suddenly 2 weeks after the last procedure, he has severe, generalized joint stiffness and pain. His right knee is swollen and very painful.
Avatar f tn Artery, it was suggested the risk factor was too great for Angioplasty as my Right Coronary Artery was smaller than average ( it would seem I was born with this). Because of the extent of the blockage and the abnormal size of the Artery the risk factor is increased as they could split the artery during this procedure. I was assured that should this happen they could convert to Open Heart Surgery. It has been suggested I should now have the Angioplasty and I am a little nervous.
Avatar f tn Correction, meant to say:... The CT scan is angioplasty ( an "angiogram") and a cath angioplasty is unnecessary unless there is going to be (an agreed stent implant) as a cath would only verify what the CT images show. The CT scan is more inclusive than a cath as it views the anatomy of the vessel, respiratory, aorta, etc. as well as the lumen...the cath only views the lumen unless there is ultra sound attached to the probe.
Avatar m tn As an example, my nuclear scan showed excellent results, but I had already had an angiogram. My angiogram showed a completely blocked LAD and a blockage in my LCx. My right artery was also totally blocked halfway down. Collateral vessels played a huge role. The amount of radiation used is not that high and risks are low.
Avatar f tn If they decide to stent the blockage during your angioplasty procedure, you may just feel a small amount of chest pain for about 5 seconds as they inflate the balloon. This is because it temporarily stops blood flow through that vessel until the balloon is deflated.
Avatar f tn Had angiogram( 2 stents & 1 balloon angioplasty) and two days later couldn't get a deep breath. Monitored in hospital overnight, no medications given or IV. After on oxygen awhile breathing better but now five days later still can't always get deep breath. Hospital did another echocardiogram and blood enzymes and it was all very good. Oh, one heart enzyme was slightly elevated, but could be from the procedure. Good rhythm and strong beats..
976897 tn?1379167602 He called in my Consultant who made the claim after looking at the images, and he took over the procedure. He used an FFR device and took a baseline measurement at the top of the Circumflex, which read 0.8. He said, if it drops to .7 or less as he passes it down the artery, it means there is a serious issue. Halfway down it suddenly dropped to 0.6. He ballooned sections of the artery until it was 0.8 all the way down, and it meant ballooning a section 3cm long.
Avatar n tn The doctor found 100% blockage in right artery and went through a angioplasty for the right artery but while the angiogram he found 2 more blockage in left and main aorta.Doctor gave us two options first angioplasty and second bypass. As bypass is a megor oparetion so i think angioplasty is more suitable. But wnat to make sure that should we go for an angioplasty in this condition or not. my father is 65 years old. Please suggest......
Avatar n tn Hi I had a CABG about 3 years ago, and still I am having on and off chest pains and cardiac related problems. Recently underwent another angiogram and discovered my Circumflex had a blockage and it has to be done a stenting procedure. But my Cardiologist couldn't do it through the right leg as I had developed heavy scar tissues due to 3 angiograms done in the past.. Some doctors denied this failure.
Avatar m tn Has anyone had an angiogram with the catheter inserted in arm or neck instead of the groin? I don't think I could take the groin without serious nerve spasms.
Avatar f tn In the mean time, I am having pains in between the shoulder blades, which I was told is due to where the angioplasty was done. They want to repeat the Angiogram to see how things are. I am worried this may cause tissue damage, etc. I will need a angiogram done when the stent is availiable so is it benificial to have one now if there is no treatment to fix the problem now?
Avatar m tn Your comments and opinions are much appreciated. The angiogram/angioplasty procedure for my mother-in-law has been postponed. She is keen to try the chelation therapy and we hope it works for her and she will get better.
Avatar n tn t have a problem after an angiogram. I flew on airplanes 3 days after my angiogram.
600462 tn?1220457989 My husband has recently been diagnosed with inferolateral ischemia. The heart Center Doctor wants to do an angiogram. My husband has heard bad things about the risks and is afraid to do it. Can you tell me what inferolateral ischemia means? What can help him overcome his fear.
Avatar f tn regular angiogram visualizes the inner chamber. Also, the procedure can measure the intra-chamber pressures.
Avatar n tn He reported to the hospital and angiogram was scheduled. But it took 3 days for angiogram to take place as we were told that he has low platelets and 3 SDPs were given to him. His platelets count was arnd 18k. After SDP it went up to 70-80k.
Avatar n tn If the narrowing is limited to a single artery, it may be possible to treat with an angioplasty and stent, which is a very well established procedure these days (I've had four stents). If multiple arteries are involved, artery bypass may be more appropriate, but again this is a very well established procedure with good recovery rates. Finding a blockage or narrowing means you have coronary artery disease, as do millions of others.
Avatar m tn The CT angiogram shows 95-99% stenosis in my RCA (single vessel). I have hypertension, too. But, I have no pain at rest or walking briskly, running and doing hard exercises and works. Is it really heart problem? May I continue doing normal activities? May I continue with my walking and exercises? Is angioplasty essential for me? Please answer. K.
Avatar f tn On approaching, the doc told us that the left artery is rejecting the stents so this time they will put a medicated stent(38 mm long).Following Angioplasty procedure,my Dad recovered soon and all but again today(after 1 week of 2nd Angioplasty) my dad got some chest pain while walking!!!! My question is: 1)What may be the reason for chest pain again? 2)After 1st Angioplasty my Dad is facing a new problem i.
Avatar f tn my father is 64 yrs old, has a stent in mid LAD (9 yrs back angioplasty was done), non diabetic, hypertensive, quit smoking 9 years back .
Avatar n tn Your Cardiologist will have to have a careful look at your latest Angiogram and make some important decisions based on the current situation. Are your symptoms bad? has the closure of this vessel completely stopped blood flow to a portion of your heart muscle? Angioplasty has moved on a lot in 16 years, can they re-open the original blockage for which that graft was done?
Avatar n tn Some more insight in addition to Flycaster's information. You should get an understanding if the totally blocked arteries have developed a natural bypass (collateral vessels, angiogeneisis growth) that is now supplying the area with blood/oxygen. I and others on this forum have totally blocked arteries and manage very well without intervention (by-pass). You my not need a bypass or a stent.
