You are right that the data on use of azithromycin for syphilis prevention is worrisome however penicillin (or amoxicillin) is highly active and if you had been exposure to syphilis 5 days of amoxicillin would have cured it.
Bottom line, there is no reason to worry aobut syphilis and no need for further testing.
Amoxicillin is not usually given for stds. In fact, I don't know of any that it actually would treat. Most bacterial non-gonorrheal stds are treated with doxycycline 2/day for 7-10 days or Azithromycin 2g one time. For gonorrhea, you need a shot, I forget what it's called plus Ciprofloxacin. For viral stds, they have no cure although you may be able to reduce symptoms by taking antiviral medications.
Today, nine days after beginning to feel sick, I visited my doctor and was prescribed Amoxicillin 875mg tabs to be taken twice a day for the next ten days. My doctor believes I have a sinus infection, hence the Amoxicillin prescription. I did not mention my unsafe sexual encounter to my doctor and I am not having any outward symptoms of any kind of STD.
My question is, can you tell me what if any STD the Amoxicillin would cure if I did contract one from my friend?
About 3 weeks ago I visited my GP for a sinus infection. He prescribed Curam Duo Forte (Amoxicillin) 875/125g twice daily for 10 days. The rash appeared after my doctors visit but before I started the treatment. Although the rash has not advanced it is still present. So my questions are 1) would the Amoxicillin I took for the sinus issue would also treat syphilis if it is the cause of the rash?
After receiving unprotected oral sex from a female (male recipient). Someone is prescribed 500mg amoxicillin 3x's daily for 10 days, would this abort the incubation of such std's as Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, or syphilis? The antibiotics were prescribed the day after the encounter (within 24 hours). I've been hearing different things from different sites and its been driving me crazy. Do I need to worry? Thank you.
Giving oral sex to someone with a penis puts you at risk for oral gonorrhea and syphilis. Both are fairly uncommon. It would be very unlikely for you to get oral gonorrhea, which usually resides in the throat, if the penis didn't get near your throat or your partner didn't ejaculate.
Syphilis is only transmitted by direct contact with a sore. If your partner had a syphilis sore, and you put your mouth on it, you could get it that way.
It makes sense that ampicillin, amoxicillin, or any others in the penicillin family could treat syphilis (being that penicillin is the recommended treatment). I only asked for the source of the info because I wanted to know if they were somehow less effective treatments than regular old penicillin. Thanks again!

Now, I want to re-test for all STD's . Can anyone please help me to let me know which tests will be effected as I am on antibiotics from 8 days and when should I get re-test if any STD effected by this medicine.
I want to test for CBC, HIV, HSV1,2, HEPATITIS A,B,C, SYPHILIS, CHLAMYDIA, GONNORHEA. Or any other std test if I should have ?
Hi, only testing would confirm infections but syphilis is contract at point of contact so any chancres would appear on your penis or mouth area also they are not sypmptoms as your describing anyway. You cant get HIV from oral sex so you can rule that out also.

Some while ago I posted an entry saying that I had complete STD tests done at 10 weeks post (possibly) risky encounter. Just to recap my story, I had an encouter with a CSW, with unprotected oral sex but PROTECTED intercourse.
All the tests came back negative, but now I'm worrying about one thing.
Some three days after the encounter I started taking antibiotics for strep throat.
So if i rub my penis against her vagina, without penetration, she is safe?

The risk of some STDs is a bit higher -- low for all (e.g., gonorrhea, syphilis) and virtually zero for others (e.g., chlamydia).
Your med student friend has some learning to do about STDs. I wouldn't have recommended any antibiotic treatment at all; and amoxicillin is a poor choice for STD prevention.

I was veey drunk 12 days ago and received unprotected oral. freaked out. had 6g of amoxicillin as I thought I'd caught gonorrhea and a dose of azithromycin too. still freaking out! am I being paranoid.

It is most unlikely that this is a chancre of syphilis. Syphilis can rarely be acquired through oral sex but it is uncommon. Even more importantly in your situation, either the doxycycline or the amoxicillin you have taken would be expected to have lead to healing soon after you started taking the medication. Finally, after 4 months I would entirely expect for your syphilis blood test to be positive if this was syphilis.
What are the chances of acquiring an STD via oral sex? I’m also on 500mg of amoxicillin for 10 Days every six hours for a sinus infection.

I'm a 20 year old female concerned about catching something after having a man (of unknown status) ejaculate in my mouth twice.
Five days after, I woke up with a swollen/sore throat and red, sunburn-like rash covering my groin, buttocks, breasts & surrounding area, but it didn't itch and I no fever. I had slept with a tampon in, and was concerned about TSS, but had no other symptoms.
So, had brief encounter with sex worker. I am a male and she a female, just for clarity and accuracy of response though I'm confident that this is irrelevant. In any case, I received oral sex lasting only a couple minutes then shortly after completed with handjob. Anyway, that night I had extreme regrets as this not something I regularly do, only once before. So in my anxious state, I thought it best to be proactive and see if I could prevent any full infection from developing.
Today i went to the gum clinic and was tested for HIV, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia...
Gonorrhea and Chlamydia results were negative...
i asked would HIV and syphilis cause this and she sain no, also i said could i have a urine infection, epididymitis or orchids and she said no...
could i have just pulled a muscle? or got a infection from constipation as i havnt had a poo in more then a week? and would constipation cause headaches?
