My cat had an abscess on his back - which I have enough experience with to treat myself. I have owned cats for 30 years. I have been able to clear and heal the wound and have been dosing him with amoxicillin. He seems to have an allergy to this antibiotic as I have discovered hes been throwing up in the basement. This is the usual drug I use to treat abscess-type infections and I want to make sure the interior infection clears up.
My eight year old is allergic to amoxicillin, zithromax, clindamycin, and cefzil. We have seen an allergist, and he said there are no tests for antibiotics and that "we have a problem." Can someone please guide me in what to do next? My doctor was hoping the allergist would help guide us for future treatments. I am fearful for any infection like strep throat, ear or skin infections, we have run out of options.
Tylenol is fine, personally I'd make a point of not taking it more than a couple days in a row before trying to see a doctor, but I'm a bit of a worrier when it comes to medicine and baby.
I have a small dog (11lbs) and she was recently at the vet for an injury to her head and other lacerations from another dog. I always worry about over dosing because of her size. I had to have a root canal redone as my previous dentist did not get the whole nerve and it became infected. The Dentist put me on amoxicillin 875mg twice a day, after 6 days I called him as it was having no effect. he then put me on clyndamycin 300mg twice a day, this is day two, it seemed better this morning and by this afternoon it isswelling slightly the tissue above my tooth is spongie again and I can tell it's filling with pus.
Hi, the condition strongly suggests angioedema which is due to hypersensitivity reaction (type 1). We cannot rule out the allergen, we can just guide to rule out the probable allergen. Drugs like amoxicillin, certain painkillers, certain garments, environmental allergen and certain food (fish, mushroom, peanuts, soy etc) can cause such reaction.
You need to keep track of things (maintain a diary) you were exposed to such as food, cloths, drugs etc. and you should avoid further exposure.

I was diagnosed with secondary autoimmune adrenal insufficiency in December. I feel lousy most of the time, have chronic abdominal pain and abnormal stools, and feel best flat on my back...which doesn't work well for someone who works 12 hour shifts in a busy ER while selling one house, building another, and has 2 teens and a disabled husband, lol. The first two weeks my symptoms were severe night sweats ,chills wheezing cough , sinus congestion, headache, very sore when swallowing [felt like I had swallowed razorblades] and white coating on my tongue . The dose for amoxicillin is 62.5 mg per cat twice per day. Amoxicillin is a form of penicillin. A 20 pound cat is really equivalent to two average sized cats so I think that you could safely increase the dose to 75mg twice daily. 50mg of penicillin twice daily is under dosing for any cat. Please try and actually weigh him to be sure or his most recent weight since he may have lost weight since the incident.
He probably has not defecated as yet since he is not consuming much food.

It is very difficult to know anything based on what you posted.
First, lab ranges even for the different labs in the US differ so without ranges - have no idea if you are low, high or normal.
Second - no idea if you are sick or how you are sick. The tests run are not really run for adrenal except DHEA (and that is really more of an adrogen - e.g. it converts to testosterone and estrogen) so not sure why it belongs in this forum.

So yesterday I went to the Dr for an ear infection and the Dr said it was pretty bad. He prescribed me amoxicillin 500mg 3 times a day for 10 days. He said it was safe but I am scared. I have called and left a message for my drs assistant. Waiting for a call back. Have any of you had to take this in this dossage?
