My cat had an abscess on his back - which I have enough experience with to treat myself. I have owned cats for 30 years. I have been able to clear and heal the wound and have been dosing him with amoxicillin. He seems to have an allergy to this antibiotic as I have discovered hes been throwing up in the basement. This is the usual drug I use to treat abscess-type infections and I want to make sure the interior infection clears up.
I have a small dog (11lbs) and she was recently at the vet for an injury to her head and other lacerations from another dog. I always worry about over dosing because of her size. I went to the dentist 3 days ago she said there is nothing they can do until i finish antibiotic treatment so she prescribed to me 875mg of amoxicillin + 125mg of clavulanate EVERY 8 HOURS. I pretty much been in extreme tooth pain and to add to that every time i take this i get pretty bad stomach pain i describe it as the empty feeling you have when you don't eat anything but x10, so i did some searching and i could not find anywhere saying 875mg every 8 hours i only saw every 12 hours.
I had to have a root canal redone as my previous dentist did not get the whole nerve and it became infected. The Dentist put me on amoxicillin 875mg twice a day, after 6 days I called him as it was having no effect. he then put me on clyndamycin 300mg twice a day, this is day two, it seemed better this morning and by this afternoon it isswelling slightly the tissue above my tooth is spongie again and I can tell it's filling with pus.
The first two weeks my symptoms were severe night sweats ,chills wheezing cough , sinus congestion, headache, very sore when swallowing [felt like I had swallowed razorblades] and white coating on my tongue . The second week I bought over the counter amoxicillin 500mg twice daily for 10 days standard medication for Strep throat . After taking the antibiotics[ week two] for 6 days the night sweats chills ,headache and severe pain when swallowing these symptoms disappeared.
IF I AM NOT TAKING TWO TO THREE OF THESE MEDS EVERY 2-3 HRS,, I HURT SOOOO BAD I AM TEMPTED TO PULL MY OWN TOOTH,,,,,{NO JOKE} I FEEL I AM OVER DOSING ON MEDS,,, AND NO RELIEVE IS THIS NORMAL????????, OH, THEY COMPLETED THE RCT. THE SAME DAY AND FILLED IT I CANT STAND THIS PAIN ANY MORE ........ PLEASE HELP ME .......IS THIS NORMAL TO NOT SLEEP. EAT, AND POP SO MANY PILLS FOR RELIFE??? OR DO I NEED TO RETURN TO MY DENTIST?????HELP ME PLEASE........
The dose for amoxicillin is 62.5 mg per cat twice per day. Amoxicillin is a form of penicillin. A 20 pound cat is really equivalent to two average sized cats so I think that you could safely increase the dose to 75mg twice daily. 50mg of penicillin twice daily is under dosing for any cat. Please try and actually weigh him to be sure or his most recent weight since he may have lost weight since the incident.
He probably has not defecated as yet since he is not consuming much food.

I'm taking amoxicillin and my cheeks are very red, like i'm sunburnt, and very hot. It's only on my cheeks no where else on my face or body. I've been givien this same medicine many times and have never had this reaction, The only other thing I can think about is I was given a corticosteroid shot and nasal spray called Fluticasone. It's not shown as a side effect of the nasal spray, but could it be from one of these other medicines. Should I call my pharmacist or doctor?

I was told by a doctor I might have a chest infection so she put me on 500mg of amoxicillin three times a day. I'm also on diazepam for muscle spasms and anxiety. I cannot remember is she said it was ok go take them both together.
