Skin testing is the best method for diagnosing a penicillin allergy. If found to be allergic, the main treatment is avoidance of future use of amoxicillin and related antibiotics. Other groups of antibiotics with the same efficacy, may be used to treat the infection. Amoxicillin's efficacy is not affected even if you have allergies to this drug. It is discontinued due to the allergic symptoms manifested by the patient.
I was put on Cephalexin 500mg twice a day, to cure Impetigo that I developed after a bad chest cold. I am allergic to amoxicillin, but my doc said I shouldn't react to it. It has been 3 days since I have

If you have a strong family history of penicillin allergy, then amoxicillin group also should be avoided. Also please mention this fact to any doctor you or your daughter and other children visit. An antiallergic like Benadryl should be given and please stop the medicine. Discuss with your doctor as soon as possible.

Yes I would say your friend is correct ..It is the amoxicillin,it is a side effect not an allergy,so ask your doctor but it is usually advised to stay on the amoxycillin course .Is it itching, ? it is always advisable to speak to your doctor..

Hi, the condition strongly suggests angioedema which is due to hypersensitivity reaction (type 1). Drugs like amoxicillin, certain painkillers like aspirin, ibuprofen, certain garments, environmental allergen and certain food (fish, mushroom, peanuts, soy etc) can cause such reaction.
In your case, the allergic reactions seems to be secondary to ibuprofen and you should avoid further exposure.
Hi, welcome to the forum, amoxicillin allergy is known entity but in her case it is other than allergy. In some individuals, amoxicillin is known to cause thrombocytopenia, prolongation of bleeding time, hemolytic anemia. One thing also needed to be ruled out is bleeding diasthesis.
She needs to undergo complete blood counts, Prothrombin time, bleeding time etc. In 50 % patients cause remains unknown. This condition can be managed by discontinuing the drug and go for other alternatives.
It very well could be an allergy to the med you took for the sore throat...the Amoxicillin. Many drugs last a lot longer in our bodies after we have finished taking them, so that has been 2 monhths isn't all that alarming. Benadryl is often used for allergic reactions.
I was informed
that the allergy to PCN does occur oddly enough when one has mono and take the Amoxicillin. Then I had the joint pain after a week in the hospital.
It was a migrating arthritis that sometime occurs with the drug reaction to
Penicillin. Could you have had Mono?
I do have Arthritis years later but ostoarthritis now. Good luck. I do remember that it took me a half a year to recover from the original joint pain
related to the drug reaction and Mono combination.
I have been able to clear and heal the wound and have been dosing him with amoxicillin. He seems to have an allergy to this antibiotic as I have discovered hes been throwing up in the basement. This is the usual drug I use to treat abscess-type infections and I want to make sure the interior infection clears up. Is there a good alternative to amoxicillin for this type of infection?
I have an infected tooth which has to be extracted in the next few days but as of now I was prescribed 250 mg of Amoxicillin and have to take it 3 times a day. Since Wednesday I have taken seven doses and for the last few hours I've been experiencing and odd feeling in my mouth/on my tongue. I guess I'd say there's a slightly warm and numb feeling on my tongue. I wouldnt say it feels like a film is on my tongue, but maybe dry mouth? It's hard to describe.
I m 27 years old male. 3 weeks before I had sex with one unknown guy without condom. Now I found a painless sore on my penis shaft ( inside of foreskin ).
When I consulted a doctor she prescribed to take 3 Amoxicillin (500mg) per day for 5 days and a cream to apply on the sore but I didn't tell her that I had sex with a guy.
5 days not yet completed.This is 3rd day but I feel sore is getting dry now.
My question is,
1. Is this sore related to syphilis or allergy sore?

my wife has been diagnosed with a type of food allergy, where grains are the culpret,so far she has narrowed it down to mostly wheat products,she has started to watch her glutin intake.
But there has to be something else that can be done,she recently turned 41, the effects are sinus,both stuffy,and runny,also her tounge will at times swell,and become very raw and sore,any advice will be appriciated.

In my opinion, the tiredness is probably related to this persistent infection and the anitbiotic.
Are you following up with an ENT Specialist and/or an Allergist for this chronic/persistent sinus infection? This problem could also be allergy-related.
RUBBISH !!! Amoxicillin is the safest antibiotic for cats who do not have an allergy to penicillin - and very few have. Where are you getting your information???
I just wanted to mention that when everything is calmed down, I believe your son may be able to get tested for allergies to the proteins in Amoxicillan/Pennicillian, so if you do not figure out what caused his reaction originally, the allergy test may be able to give you some insight or at least be crossed off the list.

Has anyone dealt with sever congestion during pregnancy? I literally wake up every morning with a cough then ill throw up mucus. Then I'll have a post nasal drip that will have me spitting up mucus and usually lasts till I go to sleep. I've tried a netti pot, allergy medicine, teas, lemon. I hope someone can help! I'm pretty dang miserable and it *****.
