my daughter tends to break out at random (she is 2) but the rashes / hives goes away after a couple of hours. We still have no idea what the allergy is. Now she was diagnosed with an ear infection yesterday, she didn't see her normal doctor because her normal doctor was out of town, which is fine, I know the other doctor. the doctor gave her amoxicillin for her ear infection.

I have severe allergies to most antibiotics. Lately, I've been giving amoxicillin to my children, and I'm having a reaction. Is this possible just by touching it? The allergy has the symptoms of serum sickness: I have red welts appearing and disappearing on my hands and feet, and the knuckles on my right hand feel stiff. Can I wait it out, or do I need to see a Dr.?

My question? Is amoxicillin less effective in fighting an infection if you are allergic to the antibiotic? If so, would it be completely useless or still have some of the desired effect?

Last night we took Elijah to the after hours clinic because he looked like he had chicken pox, we found out he's allergic to the "cillin" medications, he's been taking amoxicillin for an ear infection. Has anyone had a child with an allergic reaction to the "cillin" medications?

It is now Saturday, my daughter was diagnosed with strep throat Wednesday night and started amoxicillin in the urgent care, Friday afternoon she broke out in a itchy rash...mostly on her torso but some on her legs, neck, and arms. It very well could be an allergy to the med you took for the sore throat...the Amoxicillin. Many drugs last a lot longer in our bodies after we have finished taking them, so that has been 2 monhths isn't all that alarming. Benadryl is often used for allergic reactions.

The mucus has cleared up from green to white, but my allergy symptoms are also worse and I am having severe diarhea which has left me weak, faint and exhausted. I was informed that the allergy to PCN does occur oddly enough when one has mono and take the Amoxicillin. Then I had the joint pain after a week in the hospital. It was a migrating arthritis that sometime occurs with the drug reaction to Penicillin. Could you have had Mono? I do have Arthritis years later but ostoarthritis now. Good luck. I have been able to clear and heal the wound and have been dosing him with amoxicillin. He seems to have an allergy to this antibiotic as I have discovered hes been throwing up in the basement. This is the usual drug I use to treat abscess-type infections and I want to make sure the interior infection clears up. Is there a good alternative to amoxicillin for this type of infection?
