Avatar m tn Aim playing racket ball three times a week for well 2-3 hours. I notice this ammonia smell with my sweat. Now I always sweat heavy when I work out. But this ammonia smell new. Other than this smell aim fine losing some weight.
Avatar f tn Since i am mostly vegetarian, and only break this rule with fish a few times a month, i was careful to note that the ammonia smell only occurred after eating fish. My physician tested me and found that i definitely had an ammonia buildup and i should stop eating animal protein. Once i dropped eating fish the problem went away. My physician told me that the ammonia buildup can lead to encephalopathy - brain fog - that can be very damaging, so i'm sticking to a vegetarian diet.
Avatar f tn He warned me not to eat any sort of meat and fish(except smoked fish). The only thing that am worry is stopping meat/fish in my meal. Pls is d doctor right by telling me not to eat fish/meat?
Avatar f tn I am also wondering in advanced cirrohsis will the lactolose eventually be uneffective in bringing down the ammonia levels? My final question is what kind of life expectancy is there when the cirrohsis reaches the level that she is at?

They can even contribute to being overweight or obese because a toxic liver orders your fat cells to holds on to toxins until it's ready to process them. http://www.examiner.
Avatar m tn We are using high doses a Vitamin C to help flush the brain of the ammonia. The blood levels came back into normal range with in 36 hours but the cause is undetermined.
Avatar m tn I am taking Kristalose to relieve the build-up of ammonia in my blood due to hep-c. My doctor wants to see 4-5 bowel movements a day. He prescribed 2 - 20mg packs at breakfast, 2 at lunch and 1 at dinner. Some days I have 6-8 before dinner and since he does not want me to have more than that I will skip the dinner dose. My question is - If I have a movement the first thing the following morning - prior to taking anything - is that movement still removing ammonia 12-14 after the prior dose?
Avatar n tn This is the Hep C Forum. While we talk about high ammonia levels, it is in conjunction with Hep C and the liver problems from there. yOu might want to make sure the Dr did a Hep C Antibody these to make sure she doesn't have it then go to the list of Communities ( touch Communities at the top of the thread) and find the health and wellness site for more assistance. Good luck and Blessings to you both.
Avatar m tn s too high a dose, and why are you choosing B6 in high doses for cholesterol? Fish oil will raise your HDL immediately as it is HDL (or flax oil or hemp seed oil). B6 toxicity is nothing to fool around with, and remember, B6 is in balance with B12 and folic acid, so long-term use of just one of these will throw the others out of balance. I'd find another treatment plan.
Avatar f tn Researchers aren’t exactly sure what causes encephalopathy, but they suspect that an excess of ammonia in the body may be one of the triggers. Vegetarian diets, on the other hand, have a low ammonia content and have been shown to be much less likely than animal protein diets to induce encephalopathy. Also, vegetable fiber plays a role in helping to eliminate harmful waste substances, such as ammonia, from the body.
Avatar m tn In patients with advanced cirrhosis, the liver is no longer able to metabolize the ammonia and convert it to urea so the ammonia builds up the in body producing and travels to the person's brain with psychological and other effects.
Avatar m tn An ammonia test measures the amount of ammonia in the blood. Most ammonia in the body forms when protein is broken down by bacteria in the intestines. The liver normally converts ammonia into urea, which is then eliminated in urine. Ammonia levels in the blood rise when the liver is not able to convert ammonia to urea. This may be caused by cirrhosis or severe hepatitis. Since you are on this forum I assume you have hep c? Are you experiencing the effects of toxic buildup in your blood?
Avatar f tn If the liver is decompromised it cannot metabolize the waste products hence there is an elevation of blood ammonia levels resulting in increased excretion in the urine. Also, increased levels of ammonia may also be seen with gastrointestinal bleeding, where the blood cells are haemolysed in the intestines, releasing protein. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Lactulose is considered the first-line therapy for HE. The usual oral dose of lactulose is about 15-30 ml given twice a day to induce 2-3 soft bowel movements daily. Abdominal bloating and a sweet taste in the mouth are the principal adverse effects associated with normal doses of lactulose. Xifaxan/Rifaximin works in a different way. It's an antibiotic that reduces the amount of ammonia produced in the gut. (It doesn't draw fluid into the bowel like lactulose or kristalose does.
1183618 tn?1277365106 Vitamin D is available through our foods - Fortified milk, breakfast cereals, egg yolks, fatty fish, and fish oils. Sit at a window with the sun shining in for about 1/2 hour (few times a week) and that will help you get enough Vitamin D. Suggest you stop taking the vitamin D supplements, restrict your intake of calcium, and see your MD.

Avatar n tn I AM DIAGNOSED WITH END STAGE LIVER DISEASE AS A RESULT OF ALCOHOL ABUSE. THIS IS THE INFO I HAVE BEEN GIVEN CONCERNING AMMONIA LEVELS. NORMAL IS 80 AND UNDER. MY AMMONIA HAS BECOME ELEVATED AS HIGH AS 800. WHEN MY AMMONIA BECOMES ELEVATED, ENCEPHALOPATHY SETS IN. THIS CAUSES ME TO BECOME CONFUSED, DISORIENTED, AND UNSTEADY ON MY FEET. THIS IS USUALLY THE POINT WHERE I END UP IN THE HOSPITAL.
Avatar m tn What can cause a ammonia smell in sweat and colon? and raw skin lines on each side of the scrotum between the inner thighs and pus bumps.
Avatar f tn Not all omega 6 oils are created equal. I don't know why you're taking evening primrose oil, you don't state what you're trying to accomplish. Some take it for female hormonal balance and some take it for depression. It is somewhat high in GLA, a very beneficial fat, though borage oil has more. But it is very effective for women with hormonal disruptions, so if you need it for that and it's working, then I wouldn't worry about the Omega 6 portion.
Avatar n tn increased ammonia in urine - occurring as a result of dehydration or a bladder infection, infection with trichomonas vaginalis, hypermethioninemia, and Trimethylaminuria. As the last two are uncommon conditions, it would be better to rule out the initial two causes. If your urine is very pale yellow, it is unlikely that you are dehydrated. However, it would not hurt to ensure that fluid intake is maintained over 2000 ml.
