Avatar f tn she has continued to take the Lactolose for the past two weeks but today her ammonia level is 150. I would like to find out how high ammonia level can go before it is considered toxic and will cause her to go into a coma? I am also wondering in end stage cirrhosis will the lactolose eventually be uneffective in bringing down the ammonia levels? My final question is what kind of life expectancy is there when the cirrohsis remains at that level?
Avatar n tn According to what you posted, he was diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome - which is a genetic disorder. There is no cure. From the symptoms you describe, that seems to fit. Other than physical therapy and other care that is similar, I don't really have any other ideas.
Avatar f tn Sadly, I'm starting to learn that a lot of doctors and health specialists don't know anything about this. I recently saw an acupuncturist (that makes her my 21st health care specialist that I've gone to seeking help for my B6 Toxicity). She started trying to get me to eat a "healthy" diet. But most of the foods are high in B6. So I'm in even more pain now than I was before I saw her. My recommendation to you would be to keep a log of foods that you eat.
374652 tn?1494811435 Monitoring of food consumption, gain in body weight and physical observations did not reveal any treatment-related toxicity in any of the group of rats. Terminal autopsy also did not reveal any signs of toxicity. Further, no significant alterations in relative organ weight, serum biochemistry and urinalysis were observed up to 1% lactulose supplementation level. The results suggest that supplementation of lactulose in the diet does not produce any toxicity at the doses tested.
Avatar m tn 6mths after living there I went into Anaphylaxis for the first time after eating salmon sushi, then continued to have massive reations to practically everything I ate for the next almost year.Almost 3 years later I live off just a hand full of things I know I can eat. I went to an allergist and he would not do the allergy testing due to the high risk of a massive anaphylactic reaction.
5769965 tn?1374113938 7 “Although allergic reaction is possible, there is no known toxicity associated with high doses of the phylloquinone (vitamin K1) or menaquinone (vitamin K2) forms of vitamin K8. The same is not true for synthetic menadione (vitamin K3) and its derivatives. Menadione can interfere with the function of glutathione, one of the body’s natural antioxidants, resulting in oxidative damage to cell membranes.
1008841 tn?1293598960 In terms of diet, I believe you should be avoiding as much salt as possible, and at least for the short term, reduce animal proteins to avoid complications of ammonia toxicity. Try to limit your protein intake to things like legumes and soy products; they are less likely to metabolize into ammonia in your gut. Protein is an important component of your diet though; be sure to confirm any info you gather here with your doctor.
Avatar f tn Yup. He's right! Smoked fish is actually worse due to high salt. Try salmon and no she'll fish or bottom feeders as they are bacteria cess pools. Some fish has high metal content that is toxic to the liver. Red meat is one of the hardest things for the body to digest. Once a week as a treat is fine, just be healthy and follow a liver friendly diet! It's not as dire as it seems. Life is more important than what you eat! The Liver Foundation has diet tips.
Avatar m tn The premise of most pathophysiologic theories involves the accumulation of ammonia in the central nervous system, producing alterations of neurotransmission that affect consciousness and behavior. These ammonia toxicity theories have been supported by studies demonstrating increased ammonia levels in patients with both fulminant hepatic failure and chronic liver disease.
317787 tn?1473358451 or is it only the lactulose that removes the ammonia? I appreciate any advice. I see the doctor on May 1st and will also talk to him.
Avatar m tn Bacteria is an SOB and you have to fight it aggressively. So I take another 200,000, also Vitamin D here and there and I eat a lot of salmon. For the Omega 3's, it's really better to eat the fish. Here's something I pulled off-line, but you should do your own research as there are very strict rules involving vitamin A and pregnancy, children, etc. --Despite vitamin A's reputation for potential toxicity, vitamin A deficiency is far more common than cases of toxicity.
Avatar f tn I have been just diagnosed with B6 toxicity and toxic neuropathy. I have been suffering for 6 months now with numbness, tingling in lower legs, hands and face. Nauseaus, dizzy and have passed out a couple of times. Neuro doc finally figured this out after two hospital stays and 4 ER visits. My problem is, I do not take B6 supplements and have read that you can not overdose from B6 by just eating food.
238010 tn?1420406272 But I just read in another post that cheese and peanut butter (among other things) may contribute to higher ammonia levels, which in turn may cause brain fog. Any suggestions on what fats to take with riba, both in the morning and evening? And how much fat is necessary each time?
Avatar f tn hepatic encephalopathy(HE) in decompensated cirrhosis - A diet high in animal protein (which contains a lot of ammonia) may precipitate an episode of encephalopathy among these people. Researchers aren’t exactly sure what causes encephalopathy, but they suspect that an excess of ammonia in the body may be one of the triggers. Vegetarian diets, on the other hand, have a low ammonia content and have been shown to be much less likely than animal protein diets to induce encephalopathy.
1028452 tn?1537448484 Yucca Saponins, and other components of yucca as well, have ammonia-binding activity. When ammonia is processed by the liver, uric acid is created. When added to the diet, Yucca Saponins pass the ammonia through the digestive tract unabsorbed and are then excreted in the feces. Yucca is also used in some dog foods to reduce the odor in their urine and bowel movements.
Avatar f tn I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I work in a paint department. I mix colors and clean up paint pretty much. Since I've worked there we have always used glass cleaner to clean the paint off the desk and our hands. I didnt know this until today but the cleaner we use has ammonia in it. I've been using it every day for a few months to get the paint off of my hands. Could it have hurt my baby?
Avatar n tn We discovered that my husband had an episode of Encephalopathy, which is high ammonia in the blood. But by the time we had his blood checked his levels were right smack in the middle of the range. Doctor said he was fine. So my question is can this ammonia gone untreated continue to rise and lower on its own. Because he has days that he seems fine and then days when he is not with me completely. He does not eat much as his taste buds are totally out of wack. Most foods taste very salty.
Avatar f tn I recently found out I had high ammonia, it was 66, I am taking lactalose and it is is now normal. All my blood work is within normal ranges on my liver function test and I also had a sonogram, have a mild fatty liver. Was wondering what could have caused this. I do drink a few beers a night.
