amitiza vs zelnorm

This looks like "official" matter. What meds are in question? Colonoscopy showed something? IBS is not a disease at all, and there's no drugs for IBS, as I know (my opinion). Zelnorm was even withdrawn from the (U.S.) market last year, now it might be back again.

Now five years later my left side of my body stomach down is mildly numb and tingles with very bad spots of shooting pain and always some mild pain in the heal, inner foot, outer leg, hamstring in the butt and severe unexplained constipation (on Zelnorm ((until discontuned)), now Amitiza), and mild arm pain, chest pains etc. I also get very bad itching or tingling of the scrotum, left side only and anal itching or tingling, left side only.

(I have tried Mirilax, Amitiza, Zelnorm and Dulcolax to no avail) I was also tested for celiacs and that came up negative. I went to my OB/GYN and planned surgery for this month thinking that the pain (on my left hand side, right under my ribs) and by my ovaries, too could be the cysts but yesterday i hit bottom. I woke up and I felt a throbbing pain under my ribs. I ran to pee and it took me 45 minutes to poop scary black tarry stools.

A recent bout of gastroparesis return required a repeat of hospitalizations, dehydration, renal failure etc. I restarted my domperidone after reglan nor erythromycin worked. I also took amitiza aftyer zelnorm went off market. Supposedly I went into CHF due to tyhe Domperidone & a cardiac issue, ICU , adrenal glands shut down, kidneys didn't work. This was miserable I ended up on massive steroids weight gain blah, blah , blah.

Talk to your doc about it. Check the government site about zelnorm, or the site for the company that makes zelnorm. It should give you more information. The extreme right-sided pain could be due to gallbladder issues. Talk to your doc about it.

I have IBS and have taken Bentyl and Zelnorm, my doctor took me off the Zelnorm because he said, it was a dangerous drug. Is this true ?

last thursday I had taken a zelnorm because i had not had a bowel movement in about a week. since I have not stopped using the bathroom, all day and throughout the night, if i eat or drink anything I have to run to the bathroom within minutes and I have pains and bloatiness in my stomache. this has never happened before when I take the medication. I am afraid to leave the house and I have lost 5 lbs. any suggestions?

Hi, the most reported common side effect of amitiza is diarrhea. It can also cause abdominal distension, nausea and abdominal pain. It can also cause fecal incontinence. Like your doctor suggested you can continue this medications for a few more days before you give up this medication. Regards.

I also have colonic inertia and a tortuous colon, but I have small intestine, stomach, and rectal problems too so my case is a little different from yours. For the constipation I have tried Miralax, Milk of Magnesia, Magnesium Citrate, Docusate, Doculax, Senokot, Lactulose, Amitiza, and probably some others that I am forgetting. I am tube fed so my diet doesn't really apply.

My daughter began amitiza and it has worked wonderfully, however, she is spotting in between periods. Is this common?

ve had IBS with constipation for over 15 years. Before Zelnorm was removed from the market, THATS when the straining REALLY started. My parents & grandparents say I was practically born constipated. So back to my question, is there a chance the strokes came from my bathroom troubles. Any ideas?

My doctor just started me on Amitiza last week following a colonoscopy that was fine. I also have had 2 CT scans; one without contrast and the other with contIrast and nothing showed up there. I had and still have a pain in my right lower abdomen. This AM the nausea was so bad I called the GI group and was told to stop taking the Amitiza for a few weeks and that the most common side effect of the drug is extreme nausea and it should ALWAYS be taken on a full stomach.

Hello All. I'm really new on the panel and I'm searching for help. In the last two weeks I have not been able to have a BM. My doctor gave me some samples of amitiza 24 mcg. I've been taken them 2 per day for the last 4 days - One at night and another in the A.M. With the 1st tablet I had a BM. I have not had another BM since. It doesn't seem that I'm having any normal digestive sounds or movements. I don't even have the urge to have a BM.

Have you tried taking magnesium citrate every morning? Have you tried Amitiza? I have not tried Linzess yet, but Amitiza is pretty good for me. You could try taking walnut hull and wormwood preparation for parasites to see if that helps you.

Also take Lactulose and Amitiza. However, in order to take the Amitiza must take a nausea pill before and after. Often times still have nausea with the Amitiza and not convinced it helps all that much. I've been at this for 8 yrs and have done everything but stand on my head. Without pills and powder - bowel movements are difficult and every 3-5 days. And only partial. EXTREMELY bloated. Have difficulty fitting into street clothes later in the day. Makes work life and social life difficult.

I have taken Zelnorm which has been very successful for me, but I have IBS with constipation and then when I haven't gone to the bathroom for a couple of weeks, the diarrhea happens. Have you tried Zelnorm?

Reglan is it- I refused it- Zelnorm worked for my gas- bloat but they took it off the market- I didn't have gastroparesis ( I was sure I did) but manometry showed goofy motility- and I also have gas /bloat after my fundo- unless you want to work with the bowel emptying- they tried me on Amitiza/ gave me diarrhea though. I like chewable acidopholus for the gut (GNC), as well as fiber choice OTC. You burping or any other symptoms.

I did and its been a month and it still hasnt healed. Having trouble with constipation and I am on amitiza. Any advice is welcome. As well, my doctor told me to take a stool softner twice a day to. Thinking about starting to eat soup.

Did you have a colonic manometry? Have you tried amitiza? Have you tried tegaserod? Have you tried pyridostigmine? How often do you have a bowel movement?

I went to a gastroenterologist the next day and she thought it was IBS and prescribed me Amitiza and Bentyl. I have been on the Amitiza and it makes me have frequent watery BMs...and the Bentyl does not do much. The pain is constant and I feel like I'm pregnant I'm so bloated (I'm not!) could this really just be IBS? Could the pain be reproductive (i.e. ovarian cysts) I'm going to school for nursing and it is really interfering with my education...

Hi Candy, I really don't know how common it is but I also have IBS that just keeps getting worse... I only have bowel movements once maybe twice a month... I know it's hard to believe but it's the truth.. Also, I used to never have bloating and pain in between those movements... But, in the last few months my stomach stays distended, I cramp until I double over, and nothing seems to help... My doctor said it's a combination of the MS and the medication...

I had an endoscopy and found out I have a large duodenal ulcer with partial outlet obscrtuction.Can I take Amitiza with this ulcer?I was supposed to have a colonoscopy but I couldn't get completely clear.I was put on a drug to help heal the ulcer and a proton pump inhibitor.I just want to know if it is safe to amitiza.I am on opiods so I need it.
