amitiza

1704915 tn?1357601254 Does it make you really sick leading up to going and during and after you go to the bathroom. Laxatives that force me to go make me terribly ill. Miralax is the only one that doesn't but it doesn't make me go more .. just makes it easier to go.
Avatar m tn Per pharmacist recommendation, I began taking an over-the-counter stimulant laxative daily, in combination with the non-laxative stool softener and generic vicodin. I also stopped eating meat, bananas, and cheese. However, I had NO bowel movement for another week, which equaled 2 total weeks with no bowel movement. After these 2 weeks, I stopped taking the vicodin, even though I was in pain, but I continued to take the stimulant laxative pills and stool softener pills daily.
433485 tn?1321813390 Constipation while taking Percocet is inevitable. Docs often recommend Colace (stool softener) to help with the constipation but it's not very effective and as a result a stimulant laxative is needed. Ask your doctor about what laxative he would recommend and remember that too much fiber is as bad as too little. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Ive been suffering from chronic constipation for approx 6 years now. I was first diagnosed with IBS but that doesn seem to be the case.. no medication or laxative have ever worked. I went for a colonoscopy last year, after taking movicol for 4 days prior and the prep to clean out the colon before the procedure, not much came out & there was still waste in the colon. Specialist reckons I have a slow moving colon, meaning it doesn push stuff out quick enough.
Avatar n tn The GI doc put me on Amitiza but did not help so today (a week after my colonoscopy) she took me off Amitiza and started me on 3 Metamucil tablets every morning and 1 Colace, then 1 Colace each night as well. I'm waiting to see what happens next...good luck to you.
974371 tn?1424653129 Hi, the most reported common side effect of amitiza is diarrhea. It can also cause abdominal distension, nausea and abdominal pain. It can also cause fecal incontinence. Like your doctor suggested you can continue this medications for a few more days before you give up this medication. Regards.

Avatar n tn My daughter began amitiza and it has worked wonderfully, however, she is spotting in between periods. Is this common?
Avatar f tn I also have had problems in the last 4 months with sudden, very severe constipation. (No bowel movements at all without laxative use) Do you know of any ailments that cause sudden severe onset of constipation that I could mention to my doctor, thanks. Oh and I have started taking probiotics, digestive supplements and have been instructed to use a mild daily laxative. Not much has changed since starting this regimen.
Avatar f tn Every single and as much of any laxative medication you can think of, including Linzess and Amitiza. Stimulant laxatives are the only kind that provided relief, but the effects always wore off really quickly. Dulcolax worked but gave me feelings of an electrolyte imbalance, to the point that I had to go to the hospital. I have also tried so many natural remedies and even colonics. The effects of colonics soon wore off as well and seemed to cause more harm than good and we're very expensive.
605458 tn?1539228808 My doctor just started me on Amitiza last week following a colonoscopy that was fine. I also have had 2 CT scans; one without contrast and the other with contIrast and nothing showed up there. I had and still have a pain in my right lower abdomen. This AM the nausea was so bad I called the GI group and was told to stop taking the Amitiza for a few weeks and that the most common side effect of the drug is extreme nausea and it should ALWAYS be taken on a full stomach.
Avatar f tn I have tried every single form of laxative, suppository, stool softener, even ibs focused medication like amitiza. I cant take a laxative unless i have been constipated for about 10 days otherwise it wont work. I have maybe one good week every now and then but usually its just a good day or two. My abdominal area constantly hurts and i feel like i have a knot that doesnt go away but the doc says my stomach feels flat.
Avatar n tn Hello All. I'm really new on the panel and I'm searching for help. In the last two weeks I have not been able to have a BM. My doctor gave me some samples of amitiza 24 mcg. I've been taken them 2 per day for the last 4 days - One at night and another in the A.M. With the 1st tablet I had a BM. I have not had another BM since. It doesn't seem that I'm having any normal digestive sounds or movements. I don't even have the urge to have a BM.
Avatar f tn ve tried an ibs diet, liquid diets, giving up dairy and wheat, flagyll, amitiza, prednisone, cyproheptadine, zoloft, bentyl, and right now I'm on lexapro for what doctors presume is a seratonin imbalance in my stomach (because my twin has OCD they thought this might be related seeing as how she had a seratonin imbalance in her brain).
974371 tn?1424653129 t feel the emptying was that bad and wants to treat me for IBS with this drug plus Activia and Lactulose (prebiotic) but it says laxative and I am not really constipated. She wants to do a 24 hr test where the tube is put down your nose to your stomach. I had one done but she said this is different ( measures bile too ?) and it can only be done there which means another 4-5 hours driving back and forth 2days in a row!!!
Avatar f tn After many visits, including a 2 CT scans, an MRI with contrast, x-rays, and an ultrasound, I was left with the explanation that it was simply constipation pains, and to take the prescription Amitiza, which I complied with until it stopped working. I then visited a different Doctor, who immediately after feeling my left side, said that she knew what was wrong: my Sigmoid colon was not completely emptying, despite my stool being liquid from the laxatives.
Avatar m tn Have you tried taking magnesium citrate every morning? Have you tried Amitiza? I have not tried Linzess yet, but Amitiza is pretty good for me. You could try taking walnut hull and wormwood preparation for parasites to see if that helps you.
Avatar m tn Also take Lactulose and Amitiza. However, in order to take the Amitiza must take a nausea pill before and after. Often times still have nausea with the Amitiza and not convinced it helps all that much. I've been at this for 8 yrs and have done everything but stand on my head. Without pills and powder - bowel movements are difficult and every 3-5 days. And only partial. EXTREMELY bloated. Have difficulty fitting into street clothes later in the day. Makes work life and social life difficult.
Avatar f tn Okay so my aunt gave me The brand name Fleet Saline Enema Laxative and I'm 9 weeks pregnant. I wanted to know what this okay to take or no.
Avatar m tn Do you think laxative use about once a month is too much and will cause lazy colon or is that not so bad? I do have bowel movements but sometimes i just need to get "the rest" out after a month or so.
Avatar f tn I, too, was addicted to laxatives off and on for years. For me, it was because of an eating disorder. Trust me when I say this, using laxatives to loose or control weight loss is an illusion. You do loose mostly water and dehydrate yourself. Now, I'm no Dr. However, prolonged use can cause your bowels to be "lazy". So here are some tips to help physiologically and psychologically: -Where you are pregnant, always consult your Dr. Before doing anything.
Avatar n tn For 2 years now (I'm 20), I have suffereded from a stabbing pain in my upper stomach above the belly button. I'm usually always constipated and mostly trapped in my house unable to go out due to the drastic pain. Even when typing this I'm in an uncomfortable pain. I have been seeing 1 doctor for 6 months and another doctor for 1 month. So far the only thing that helps is Belladonna, which if I don't take every 8 hours I be unable to move around and work.
Avatar f tn I have been on Miralax long-term thru my GI and it is a wonderful, non-addicting gentle way to use a laxative long term and in my opinion is better than Senna and much more comfortable to use. But make sure your Dr. rules out any reason why you need to use this med on a daily basis before you commit to using it. All my tests were negative so I got a thumb's up! And in the US now Miralax is otc~!
