My daughter has been on Amitiza 8 mg but today it was increased to 24 mg because of chronic constipation. She is only 9 years old. I had to give her an enema and it didn't work. I can't figure out what keeps binding her up.
Thank you for responding! I am able to have bowel movements but must take an incredible amount of fiber pills, powders. Also take Lactulose and Amitiza. However, in order to take the Amitiza must take a nausea pill before and after. Often times still have nausea with the Amitiza and not convinced it helps all that much. I've been at this for 8 yrs and have done everything but stand on my head. Without pills and powder - bowel movements are difficult and every 3-5 days. And only partial.
I did and its been a month and it still hasnt healed. Having trouble with constipation and I am on amitiza. Any advice is welcome. As well, my doctor told me to take a stool softner twice a day to. Thinking about starting to eat soup.
You can try using other medications for constipation to see if that works better. Amitiza is a new one out there but sometimes certain ones work better than others. Has your doctor ever mentioned abdominal migraines?

I quit smoking two weeks ago and have been severely constipated. Doctor gave me a CT scan and amitiza. Now he wants a colonoscopy done. I'm miserable and I think its all smoking related. The doctor thinks theres no relation between quitting smoking and constipation. I think he needs to go back to med school.
I can speculate on the constipation, but i dont know much about the other symptoms. With that said, what is your diet like? Not sure if you are American or not, but the average American diet is pretty damn awful. Not enough fiber, too much red meat, not enough fruits and veggies, too much fast foods. all of this will wreak havoc on your digestive system over time.
if this is at all you, slowly start to change your diet. Add more fruits and veggies, maybe a fiber supplement.
I have done the doxycycline and a few other therepies that my gastrointerologist recommended. They would work for a while and then would get worse agan. I am now taking Amitiza and am doing pretty good with it. Though I have now started noticing a correlation to my menstral cycle and the onset of these symptoms. A week before i start my period I will stop haveing BMs. Completely. I won't go again until I start. And then I usually have to induce it somehow.
Long and twisted colon that tends to slow passage of stool and cause constipation that can be quite severe. I take Miralax and Amitiza for mine. They work, but are expensive - especially the latter.
I've had severe constipation for two weeks now. I have severe abdominal bloating/distention, rapid weight gain (put 25 pounds on in less than 2 weeks), stingy sensation up and down my lower legs (front) almost burning and my fingers tingle/feel swollen, fatigue (wake up tired, tired after eating, and sleep whenever not at work), waking up tired, muscle soreness, joint pain, nausea, and my stomach is warm to the touch and hurts.
Just had spinal tap and mylegram and shows disks are a little worse, Nero wants to do a fusion but I need to know for sure that it’s the reason for my leg pain and more importantly the constipation before being laid out for 3 months.
I have these bloated, distention, nausea, constipation (sometimes) for about 20 years. Colonoscopy and gastroenteroscopyn always show clear and fine. I was prescribed Amitiza 8 mg 2 years ago. i feel pain in my right thigh immediately after i get up after using the toilet. it stays for some time & then goes away after some time when i get going for other works, but sometimes it stays for quite long.

I think it depends on the type of enema. Using enemas frequently for constipation can cause your rectum to "forget" how to have a bowel movement naturally. Using enemas for "colon cleansing", I believe is not good, because your colon doesn't need any cleansing, it does this itself.
I have bad constipation and for it I have to take amitiza, ducolax, and milk of magnesia. What does are you currently on for milk of magnesia? A sitsmarker test is where you swallow a pill and then get x-rays every day to see where the pill is every day to see how long it takes for things to go through your system.
