amitiza

974371 tn?1424653129 Has anyone taken this for constipation? I was on 8 mcg twice a day fir about 2 weeks with no improvement. Dose was raised to 24 mcg twice a day and absolutely no improvement. I may have a small BM if I take a dose of Miralax. I am now having some side effects on the higher dose, some chest and throat tightness, worse bloating, more discomfort. Reported this to the doctor (specialist at a university clinic) abpndcwas told to get an EKG done but stay on the med and give it time to work.
Avatar n tn My daughter has been on Amitiza 8 mg but today it was increased to 24 mg because of chronic constipation. She is only 9 years old. I had to give her an enema and it didn't work. I can't figure out what keeps binding her up.
329994 tn?1301663248 Thank you for answering my post. I appreciate that and I am certainly glad that it is working for you. I will keep that in consideration. As I said, I am very nervous to take this pill. I have heart problems so wasn't thrilled with the side effects that I was reading and wanted to hear from others that had taken it. Thank you!
1704915 tn?1357601254 I also have colonic inertia and a tortuous colon, but I have small intestine, stomach, and rectal problems too so my case is a little different from yours. For the constipation I have tried Miralax, Milk of Magnesia, Magnesium Citrate, Docusate, Doculax, Senokot, Lactulose, Amitiza, and probably some others that I am forgetting. I am tube fed so my diet doesn't really apply.
Avatar m tn Thank you for responding! I am able to have bowel movements but must take an incredible amount of fiber pills, powders. Also take Lactulose and Amitiza. However, in order to take the Amitiza must take a nausea pill before and after. Often times still have nausea with the Amitiza and not convinced it helps all that much. I've been at this for 8 yrs and have done everything but stand on my head. Without pills and powder - bowel movements are difficult and every 3-5 days. And only partial.
Avatar n tn I did and its been a month and it still hasnt healed. Having trouble with constipation and I am on amitiza. Any advice is welcome. As well, my doctor told me to take a stool softner twice a day to. Thinking about starting to eat soup.
Avatar f tn You can try using other medications for constipation to see if that works better. Amitiza is a new one out there but sometimes certain ones work better than others. Has your doctor ever mentioned abdominal migraines?
Avatar m tn Several years ago I underwent a total colectomy - not for chronic constipation - but for torrential diverticular bleeding. In response to another Medhelp patient's question I posted my experience on:- http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/523166 If you decide to undergo surgery perhaps my observations may be relevant in making your decision.
2102085 tn?1350866645 The only thing the x- ray showed was a moderate amount of feces. They told me it was just constipation and suggested Miralax. I took Miralax for five days with no results and went back were they performed a fleet enema on me... I did get relief but the abdominal pain got worse. Again I went to the doctor because the pain was so intense. My entire lower abdomen feels sore and tender with a constant ache on my left side. Sometimes I get shooting pains on my lower left and lower right side.
1704915 tn?1357601254 I still have GI issues though and suffer from constipation. My doctor started me on Amitiza and is checking me for SIBO again, have tested positive before, and is doing a hydrogen/methane breathe test. He suspects methane producing SIBO. But I have slow motility regardless though and will have more overgrowths in general if I don't keep things moving. My primary care doctor had me try LDN (low dose naltrexone) but I couldn't tolerate it.
Avatar n tn I quit smoking two weeks ago and have been severely constipated. Doctor gave me a CT scan and amitiza. Now he wants a colonoscopy done. I'm miserable and I think its all smoking related. The doctor thinks theres no relation between quitting smoking and constipation. I think he needs to go back to med school.
Avatar f tn I can speculate on the constipation, but i dont know much about the other symptoms. With that said, what is your diet like? Not sure if you are American or not, but the average American diet is pretty damn awful. Not enough fiber, too much red meat, not enough fruits and veggies, too much fast foods. all of this will wreak havoc on your digestive system over time. if this is at all you, slowly start to change your diet. Add more fruits and veggies, maybe a fiber supplement.
Avatar n tn I have done the doxycycline and a few other therepies that my gastrointerologist recommended. They would work for a while and then would get worse agan. I am now taking Amitiza and am doing pretty good with it. Though I have now started noticing a correlation to my menstral cycle and the onset of these symptoms. A week before i start my period I will stop haveing BMs. Completely. I won't go again until I start. And then I usually have to induce it somehow.
Avatar f tn Long and twisted colon that tends to slow passage of stool and cause constipation that can be quite severe. I take Miralax and Amitiza for mine. They work, but are expensive - especially the latter.
Avatar n tn I've had severe constipation for two weeks now. I have severe abdominal bloating/distention, rapid weight gain (put 25 pounds on in less than 2 weeks), stingy sensation up and down my lower legs (front) almost burning and my fingers tingle/feel swollen, fatigue (wake up tired, tired after eating, and sleep whenever not at work), waking up tired, muscle soreness, joint pain, nausea, and my stomach is warm to the touch and hurts.
Avatar n tn Just had spinal tap and mylegram and shows disks are a little worse, Nero wants to do a fusion but I need to know for sure that it’s the reason for my leg pain and more importantly the constipation before being laid out for 3 months.
Avatar n tn I have these bloated, distention, nausea, constipation (sometimes) for about 20 years. Colonoscopy and gastroenteroscopyn always show clear and fine. I was prescribed Amitiza 8 mg 2 years ago. There was a point that I felt ok for 3 months in a row recently. But unfortunately, it came back again. It really bothers my daily life and work. What should I do?
Avatar m tn i feel pain in my right thigh immediately after i get up after using the toilet. it stays for some time & then goes away after some time when i get going for other works, but sometimes it stays for quite long. what should i do??
1773179 tn?1314201148 For almost two years now I have suffered from extremely painful and odd stomach problems. I am 17 and feel like I have the insides of a 90 year old woman. I am always bloated and constipated and have gained weight out of nowhere and steadily gaining more. I eat healthy and exercise 3-4 days a week. I had a colonoscopy last year and the results were just internal hemeroids. I go to the bathroom 1-2 a week if im lucky and it is very painful and hard to manage.
Avatar m tn I think it depends on the type of enema. Using enemas frequently for constipation can cause your rectum to "forget" how to have a bowel movement naturally. Using enemas for "colon cleansing", I believe is not good, because your colon doesn't need any cleansing, it does this itself.
Avatar f tn I have bad constipation and for it I have to take amitiza, ducolax, and milk of magnesia. What does are you currently on for milk of magnesia? A sitsmarker test is where you swallow a pill and then get x-rays every day to see where the pill is every day to see how long it takes for things to go through your system.
974371 tn?1424653129 They fit me in as I have been so sick and now problems with constipation. Doctor prescribed Amitiza fir constipation and am to start Gabopentin. Second day on Amitiza, no BM and bad nausea this morning. Did not start the Gabaoentin yet in case I had a reaction, would not be sure which one caused it. I have now lost 15+ pounds and don't seem to be able to eat much of anything.
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried it and had it worked for you. Symptoms??
Avatar f tn On top of that I have Celiac disease and food allergies to nuts and dairy. For the constpation I need both Miralax and Amitiza, which I alternate. I also take magnesium citrate and other supplements like L-arginine for circulation. Vitamin D and iron because I was found to be depleted.
