Having said all of the above there is one difference I noticed with the Amitiza and that is the medication has greatly reduced the syncope episode I was having during a bowl movement which were occurring about once a month.
Since I have been prescribed a Amitiza, which was about six months ago, I only had one syncope incident which by itself is a help to me.
I hope my brief exegesis helps.
My daughter began amitiza and it has worked wonderfully, however, she is spotting in between periods. Is this common?
Also take Lactulose and Amitiza. However, in order to take the Amitiza must take a nausea pill before and after. Often times still have nausea with the Amitiza and not convinced it helps all that much. I've been at this for 8 yrs and have done everything but stand on my head. Without pills and powder - bowel movements are difficult and every 3-5 days. And only partial. EXTREMELY bloated. Have difficulty fitting into street clothes later in the day. Makes work life and social life difficult.
Have you tried taking magnesium citrate every morning? Have you tried Amitiza? I have not tried Linzess yet, but Amitiza is pretty good for me.
You could try taking walnut hull and wormwood preparation for parasites to see if that helps you.
m a 26-year old immigrant looking for guidance and help with my symptoms. As a teenager, I one time had horrible experience of chest pain during school and later found out it was tachycardia. Afterwards, I began to experience chest discomfort and 2-3 attacks a year. In thinking that heart ablation would treat the pain, I had surgery several years later. I no longer have tachycardia attacks but continued to develop main all over, basically starting from the chest down to the back and head.
This is on top of a strong oral medication (Amitiza) and magnesium. With Miralax, I get the stuff in the bottle and take 1 1/2 capfuls once a day and as needed.
I did and its been a month and it still hasnt healed. Having trouble with constipation and I am on amitiza. Any advice is welcome. As well, my doctor told me to take a stool softner twice a day to. Thinking about starting to eat soup.
Freeway, was manometry done when the ERCP was done? There doesn't have to be a stricture, but I'm wondering if what the radiologist saw could have been a spasm. And spasms don't always show up during an ERCP. Did the radiologist 'film' a 'closure' within the common bile duct? If so, that might account for the pain.
I had an endoscopy and found out I have a large duodenal ulcer with partial outlet obscrtuction.Can I take Amitiza with this ulcer?I was supposed to have a colonoscopy but I couldn't get completely clear.I was put on a drug to help heal the ulcer and a proton pump inhibitor.I just want to know if it is safe to amitiza.I am on opiods so I need it.
The symptoms you are describing sound like something is hitting either your spinal cord or the nerves from the spine at about the T-4 level; straining during a bowel movement causes tightening of the muscles that run along the spinal column, putting pressure on the discs, and also raises pressure of the spinal fluid that can have other effects on the spinal cord, particularly if there is pre-existing damage to the cord such as a 'syrinx' of the cord.
It started without any warning and continues. Sitz marker abnormal as all markers were still present; no obstructions seen. Given amitiza; works well enough, but have heard others have much better success with it. Twice during the night I have had loss of bowel and bladder control and did not know it until I awoke the next morning. MRI's of lumbar and thoracic read as nothing of note. Where do I go from here? I am on milk of magnesia, amitiza, and dulcolax and my doctor wants me to try to get off the milk of magnesia. You can try using other medications for constipation to see if that works better. Amitiza is a new one out there but sometimes certain ones work better than others. Has your doctor ever mentioned abdominal migraines?
LV filling pattern suggest impaired relaxation. ..probably due to rapid heart rate present during study. .confirmed by normal tissue Doppler interrogation of mitral annulus velocity. Long and twisted colon that tends to slow passage of stool and cause constipation that can be quite severe. I take Miralax and Amitiza for mine. They work, but are expensive - especially the latter.
I have done the doxycycline and a few other therepies that my gastrointerologist recommended. They would work for a while and then would get worse agan. I am now taking Amitiza and am doing pretty good with it. Though I have now started noticing a correlation to my menstral cycle and the onset of these symptoms. A week before i start my period I will stop haveing BMs. Completely. I won't go again until I start. And then I usually have to induce it somehow.
Had breast reconstruction over 10 years ago - TRAM flap with abdominal muscle. Digestion issues worsen every year. Physician prescribed Amitiza last year but now have to meet new-year deductible before I can benefit from manufacturer coupon. Symptoms now include increased, painful bloating, no burps, no flatulence and no bowel movement after about 5 days drinking only water. Usually fruit or juice will help but nothing is helping or happening. Suggestions welcome and encouraged.

I suffer with IBS, I have had it since a young age, anyway! I can sometimes become constipated, I do eat lots of Fresh fruit and Veg, I don't eat high sugar sweets/junk food!
I have these bloated, distention, nausea, constipation (sometimes) for about 20 years. Colonoscopy and gastroenteroscopyn always show clear and fine. I was prescribed Amitiza 8 mg 2 years ago. There was a point that I felt ok for 3 months in a row recently. But unfortunately, it came back again. It really bothers my daily life and work. What should I do?
