Amitiza doesn't work

Common Questions and Answers about Amitiza doesn't work

amitiza

Avatar f tn I'm glad I decided to check out this question. I hadn't heard of this drug myself. I think I'll steer clear of it, since so many people are saying that it doesn't work for them. It doesn't make sense to take something like that if it doesn't work, especially since I have a lot of pharmaceutical sensitivities due to Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS). I have more food sensitivities than I can shake a stick at. Drives me nuts.
974371 tn?1424653129 Reported this to the doctor (specialist at a university clinic) abpndcwas told to get an EKG done but stay on the med and give it time to work. It's been a month and I am absolutely no better!! Read on other boards this drip ugh has worked for many but not for me!!
Avatar n tn My daughter began amitiza and it has worked wonderfully, however, she is spotting in between periods. Is this common?
Avatar n tn Hello All. I'm really new on the panel and I'm searching for help. In the last two weeks I have not been able to have a BM. My doctor gave me some samples of amitiza 24 mcg. I've been taken them 2 per day for the last 4 days - One at night and another in the A.M. With the 1st tablet I had a BM. I have not had another BM since. It doesn't seem that I'm having any normal digestive sounds or movements. I don't even have the urge to have a BM.
329994 tn?1301663248 I have been on it for a year I cant go to the bathroom without taking it, but strangely enough only if I take it in the mornings does it seem to work if I take it with evening meals no BM, but if I take it with Breakfast seems to work, no chest pain or ill effects, but have overpowering urge to go but beats weeks of constipation, I praise the difference it has made for me.
1168718 tn?1464983535 Hi Candy, I really don't know how common it is but I also have IBS that just keeps getting worse... I only have bowel movements once maybe twice a month... I know it's hard to believe but it's the truth.. Also, I used to never have bloating and pain in between those movements... But, in the last few months my stomach stays distended, I cramp until I double over, and nothing seems to help... My doctor said it's a combination of the MS and the medication...
605458 tn?1539228808 My doctor just started me on Amitiza last week following a colonoscopy that was fine. I also have had 2 CT scans; one without contrast and the other with contIrast and nothing showed up there. I had and still have a pain in my right lower abdomen. This AM the nausea was so bad I called the GI group and was told to stop taking the Amitiza for a few weeks and that the most common side effect of the drug is extreme nausea and it should ALWAYS be taken on a full stomach.
Avatar m tn Also take Lactulose and Amitiza. However, in order to take the Amitiza must take a nausea pill before and after. Often times still have nausea with the Amitiza and not convinced it helps all that much. I've been at this for 8 yrs and have done everything but stand on my head. Without pills and powder - bowel movements are difficult and every 3-5 days. And only partial. EXTREMELY bloated. Have difficulty fitting into street clothes later in the day. Makes work life and social life difficult.
1704915 tn?1357601254 I have seen 4 different doctors getting various opinions that range from a regular dr who put me on Amitiza low dose and when that didnt work recommended me to see a gi dr. That GI dr told me "oh its just IBS..nothing we can do for you." Then I went to the city to see a dr at a well known university hospital and they ran a million and one tests on me........... 1.
Avatar f tn What does it mean if your pituitary doesn't work and how does it affect your body and thyroid lab results? I have hashi/hypo. I'm on T4 and T3 meds and my latest labs showed supressed TSH and FT3/FT4 towards the bottom of the range and I have many hypo symptoms. Goolara, I'm hoping you'll be around to answer this too as I don't understand pituitary at all at this point.
Avatar m tn I think enemas are warrented ("good") when someone suffers from constipation that cannot be relieved by better methods. However, in my opinion, when someone refers to "cleansing" in regard to enemas, I assume they are talking about "ridding the body of toxins" as opposed to "relieving constipation".
Avatar m tn Have you tried taking magnesium citrate every morning? Have you tried Amitiza? I have not tried Linzess yet, but Amitiza is pretty good for me. You could try taking walnut hull and wormwood preparation for parasites to see if that helps you.
1704915 tn?1357601254 Not to mention the last experimental drug they put me on made me so sick I ended up missing a week of work and even leaving work early cause it made me feel like I had the flu. Laxatives have the same effect on me as they make the colon try to work and just make me sick in the process. Me and my husband both personally do not agree with this option even though the surgeon feels I should give it a shot.
Avatar f tn I am on milk of magnesia, amitiza, and dulcolax and my doctor wants me to try to get off the milk of magnesia. You can try using other medications for constipation to see if that works better. Amitiza is a new one out there but sometimes certain ones work better than others. Has your doctor ever mentioned abdominal migraines?
Avatar f tn Long and twisted colon that tends to slow passage of stool and cause constipation that can be quite severe. I take Miralax and Amitiza for mine. They work, but are expensive - especially the latter.
Avatar n tn I have been constipated for most of my life--since my teens but it has been a lot worse for the past 5 years. I just can't go at all. It takes me two weeks to pass a small "dropping" and I know to avoid certain foods that cause me the worst pain because I simply can't digest them--such as pasta or bread. When I eat pasta or bread I need to be in a fetal position for hours from the pain. Last year I just about had it.
946915 tn?1271941032 I need to work on the multiple smaller meals...I typically try to keep semi-healthy snacks at work and just eat dinner. I do try to eat low-fat...maybe I'm eating fiborous things and don't realize it. We tried amitiza and it did nothing...also was on levsin which didn't help much either. Also tried align and it did nothing. I was thinking of maybe trying another probiotic to see if that might help.....and also trying something other than the colace.
Avatar n tn I have these bloated, distention, nausea, constipation (sometimes) for about 20 years. Colonoscopy and gastroenteroscopyn always show clear and fine. I was prescribed Amitiza 8 mg 2 years ago. There was a point that I felt ok for 3 months in a row recently. But unfortunately, it came back again. It really bothers my daily life and work. What should I do?
Avatar f tn Freeway, was manometry done when the ERCP was done? There doesn't have to be a stricture, but I'm wondering if what the radiologist saw could have been a spasm. And spasms don't always show up during an ERCP. Did the radiologist 'film' a 'closure' within the common bile duct? If so, that might account for the pain.
Avatar m tn Hi, Im 22yr old female. Ive been suffering from chronic constipation for approx 6 years now. I was first diagnosed with IBS but that doesn seem to be the case.. no medication or laxative have ever worked. I went for a colonoscopy last year, after taking movicol for 4 days prior and the prep to clean out the colon before the procedure, not much came out & there was still waste in the colon. Specialist reckons I have a slow moving colon, meaning it doesn push stuff out quick enough.
Avatar n tn I have severe abdominal bloating/distention, rapid weight gain (put 25 pounds on in less than 2 weeks), stingy sensation up and down my lower legs (front) almost burning and my fingers tingle/feel swollen, fatigue (wake up tired, tired after eating, and sleep whenever not at work), waking up tired, muscle soreness, joint pain, nausea, and my stomach is warm to the touch and hurts.
Avatar n tn I did and its been a month and it still hasnt healed. Having trouble with constipation and I am on amitiza. Any advice is welcome. As well, my doctor told me to take a stool softner twice a day to. Thinking about starting to eat soup.
2102085 tn?1350866645 I went to a gastroenterologist the next day and she thought it was IBS and prescribed me Amitiza and Bentyl. I have been on the Amitiza and it makes me have frequent watery BMs...and the Bentyl does not do much. The pain is constant and I feel like I'm pregnant I'm so bloated (I'm not!) could this really just be IBS? Could the pain be reproductive (i.e. ovarian cysts) I'm going to school for nursing and it is really interfering with my education...
Avatar f tn She agrees, that I need more, with the bowel not functioning, and says I need to take the Amitiza, same time, each day, and no more skipping 2 days for ANY reason. (I got a good lecture this morning! The Amitiza had actually begun to work the first two days I took it last week, but then, I skipped it for two days, not wanting to have the headcache while my grand-babies were here.) On Monday, my dose of Amitiza increases to twice a day.
