Amitiza colonoscopy

Common Questions and Answers about Amitiza colonoscopy

amitiza

605458 tn?1539228808 My doctor just started me on Amitiza last week following a colonoscopy that was fine. I also have had 2 CT scans; one without contrast and the other with contIrast and nothing showed up there. I had and still have a pain in my right lower abdomen. This AM the nausea was so bad I called the GI group and was told to stop taking the Amitiza for a few weeks and that the most common side effect of the drug is extreme nausea and it should ALWAYS be taken on a full stomach.
Avatar f tn I had an endoscopy and found out I have a large duodenal ulcer with partial outlet obscrtuction. Can I take Amitiza with this ulcer?I was supposed to have a colonoscopy but I couldn't get completely clear.I was put on a drug to help heal the ulcer and a proton pump inhibitor.I just want to know if it is safe to amitiza.I am on opiods so I need it.
Avatar f tn It does NOT lead to cancer or mean that one is pre-disposed to develop cancer. This condition may sometimes make having a colonoscopy difficult and in extreme cases may prevent the practitioner who is performing the colonoscopy from being able to examine the entire colon. If you are having bowel symptoms always tell your physician and let her/him decide the next step.
Avatar f tn I had a dr that skip this country and went back to Iran so I have no medical records what so ever. I have copies of the test of colonoscopy and EDG and Liver biopsy but that is it. I was treated for IBS back in 2005-2006 with Zelnorn and then Amitiza.
Avatar n tn I have these bloated, distention, nausea, constipation (sometimes) for about 20 years. Colonoscopy and gastroenteroscopyn always show clear and fine. I was prescribed Amitiza 8 mg 2 years ago. There was a point that I felt ok for 3 months in a row recently. But unfortunately, it came back again. It really bothers my daily life and work. What should I do?
Avatar n tn I quit smoking two weeks ago and have been severely constipated. Doctor gave me a CT scan and amitiza. Now he wants a colonoscopy done. I'm miserable and I think its all smoking related. The doctor thinks theres no relation between quitting smoking and constipation. I think he needs to go back to med school.
Avatar n tn I have tried everything from high fiber diet, miralax, enemas, and I have been on Amitiza and Sentakot for three days and to no avail. I researched some on the internet and I am concerned that the gastrointestinal issues are from macrocyctic anemia (b-12 or pernicious anemia) from what I can figure from my symptons and blood work. What is the treatment for such? Whom would I see regarding this? What other methods will relieve the constipation? I am very miserable and feel awlful 24/7.
Avatar m tn I do not have a large intestine, had surgery 13 years ago. at the place small colon is connected i had a CT scan which says i have a stricture and scarring. I am having terrible bloating and cannot eat any large meal, also can't do fiber, gluten or carbs. Any suggestions. I take amitiza twice a day and drink miralax every night with prune juice. this has ruined my life. it has just gotten worse over the last 6 months.
Avatar f tn Ive had and endoscopy, colonoscopy, cat scan, xray, multiple blood tests, allergy tests, diabetes test, fructose intolerance test, and stomach motility/emptying test and the doctors haven't found anything except lactose intolerance. I tried an IBS diet but that did nothing to alleviate my symptoms (it might have even made the worse especially the bloating). ive tried cutting out dairy and gluten from my diet and nothing works. The pain is so bad that ive had to miss 15% of school this year.
946915 tn?1271941032 Have you had all the basic testing done (gastric emptying scan, endoscopy, colonoscopy, CT scan)? Are you eating a low-fiber low-fat diet and eating multiple small meals every day? What other laxatives have you tried? I too have gastroparesis (fed through a J tube) and constipation (on colace, amitiza, and lactulose).
Avatar n tn When I eat pasta or bread I need to be in a fetal position for hours from the pain. Last year I just about had it. I went to see a specialist who ordered a colonoscopy and a cat scan. The colonoscopy showed internal hemmrhoids--from the pushing and little else. The cat scan showed that I had ovarian cysts. I was diagnosed with Lazy Colon and put on Amitiza which simply doesn't work.
1773179 tn?1314201148 I eat healthy and exercise 3-4 days a week. I had a colonoscopy last year and the results were just internal hemeroids. I go to the bathroom 1-2 a week if im lucky and it is very painful and hard to manage. The doctors say that there is nothing wrong but there must be! I am always feeling nauseousness regardless of if and or what I eat. It hurts so bad sometimes I can't even get up for school or other daily activities. I was put on two strong laxatives.
974371 tn?1424653129 Hi, the most reported common side effect of amitiza is diarrhea. It can also cause abdominal distension, nausea and abdominal pain. It can also cause fecal incontinence. Like your doctor suggested you can continue this medications for a few more days before you give up this medication. Regards.
Avatar m tn Then I went another 6 days without a bowel movement, so I saw an internal medicine doctor who prescribed Amitiza for 5 days, Miralax, and Citracel. I have been on these 3 mild laxatives for 5 days. During each of the past 3 days I have expelled 1 golf-ball sized stool daily.
Avatar n tn Would tortuous sigmoid colon contribute or be the cause of incomplete distention on a virtual colonoscopy? The gastroenterologist was unable to complete a regular colonsocsopy due to possible adhesions or diverticulitis in sigmoid colon at the first turn. Thank you. This discussion is related to tortuous colon.
Avatar n tn My daughter began amitiza and it has worked wonderfully, however, she is spotting in between periods. Is this common?
Avatar m tn he was ok well we will test you and i want you to take this antibiotics vibramycin ..
Avatar m tn Quick background...had some pain on my left side (mostly) in late December/early January. Doctor did some blood work and everything normal. Then I did cat scan and everything normal except mildly enlarged spleen. By this point I was having uncomfortable feeling in my gut area Then I was sent to a blood doctor and he did loads of more blood work and also was sent for a chest X-ray. All tests and X-ray normal.
Avatar n tn The GI doc put me on Amitiza but did not help so today (a week after my colonoscopy) she took me off Amitiza and started me on 3 Metamucil tablets every morning and 1 Colace, then 1 Colace each night as well. I'm waiting to see what happens next...good luck to you.
Avatar f tn I've had stomach pains for one year now and they don't seem to be getting any better. I've had a colonoscopy, endoscopy, multiple x-rays and ct scans, blood tests, stool tests, allergy tests, breath tests, stomach emptying test, ultrasound, and one where i can't remember the name of it but i drank white chalky liquid and they watched my stomach and how the liquid passed through it to look for abdominal artery constriction and nothing was found on any of these tests.
Avatar n tn If i do get an urge to go it is a very distant feeling, very faint. I have had ultrasounds, xrays, colonoscopy and an MRI. they are trying to say it is pelvic floor dysfunction but i don't have the pain involved with that. I know that my rectum is very tight and I was given some sort of nephpedamine or some sort of muscle relaxer for that area but that doesnt help much. my stools are very thin when they do come out. Any one else out there with an idea...
Avatar n tn Hello All. I'm really new on the panel and I'm searching for help. In the last two weeks I have not been able to have a BM. My doctor gave me some samples of amitiza 24 mcg. I've been taken them 2 per day for the last 4 days - One at night and another in the A.M. With the 1st tablet I had a BM. I have not had another BM since. It doesn't seem that I'm having any normal digestive sounds or movements. I don't even have the urge to have a BM.
Avatar m tn I think enemas are warrented ("good") when someone suffers from constipation that cannot be relieved by better methods. However, in my opinion, when someone refers to "cleansing" in regard to enemas, I assume they are talking about "ridding the body of toxins" as opposed to "relieving constipation".
Avatar n tn Now five years later my left side of my body stomach down is mildly numb and tingles with very bad spots of shooting pain and always some mild pain in the heal, inner foot, outer leg, hamstring in the butt and severe unexplained constipation (on Zelnorm ((until discontuned)), now Amitiza), and mild arm pain, chest pains etc. I also get very bad itching or tingling of the scrotum, left side only and anal itching or tingling, left side only.
Avatar m tn I went to the doctor and he thought it may be constipation so he gave me Nexium and Amitiza. They made me feel pretty bad and didn't really seem to change anything that was bothering me. After a week he said to stop the meds. The gas has since subsided, but the abdominal pressure and thin stools still persist (for about 2 weeks now) And I also notice my stomach gurgling a lot throughout the day and while in bed at night.
