Ambien and liver

Common Questions and Answers about Ambien and liver

ambien

Avatar f tn It is my understanding too that benzos, like Valium; Ambien (which is actually a hypnotic and in the benzo family); clonazapam; etc. have negligible if any adverse affects on the liver. I've had to take benzos for several years, and I had my first liver biopsy in June. I have 0 fibrosis, and mild inflammation. So, I wouldn't worry unduly about any danger taking Valium to yourliver if you need it for medicinal purposes. The dangerous drug to worry about, of course, is alcohol.
Avatar m tn this is just my experience, and I'm not on tx yet...I can't take Lunesta and ambien, ambien makes me feel nutzo the next morning, but many people are fine with it...I take ativan if I have had a lot of sleepless nights in a row, and at a very low dose...I find tranquilizers lull me into sleep, which I prefer...best of luck...
870200 tn?1240459551 Sometimes you have to watch it to make sure it does not affect your liver...and me without a gallbladder...well we know I need my liver in prime shape. Think I am going to pick some up today! Hopefully it will help with the back pains I have been waking up with too. I am sure the back aches have to do with the gallbladder removal.
Avatar m tn My wife has been Zolpidem (generic Ambien) for 20+ yrs. She recently took a job in China and has been told the ultrasound show 'fatty infiltration of the liver'. She is 50 yrs old and drinks only occasionally and excercises and eats well/healthy for the most part. Could her long-term use of Zolpidem have contributed to this liver problem?
Avatar m tn I took Paxill and Ambien and it worked just fine. It didn't do anything really that I am aware of to my liver but did enable me to remain on treatment.
Avatar n tn Which sleep aid is less addicting and less toxic, ambien or lunesta. I have heard ambien is hard on your liver.
Avatar f tn Then a visit to my PCP for the Orthostatic Hypotension and he told me to go off those two drugs and gave me a script of 3 days with 1 refill of Ambien CR to see how I would react to that. After the 3 nights I started sleeping 18 to 20 hours of a 24 hr. period plus felt completely out of it. A call back to him and he said he just didn't know why I was doing that and suggested I should talk to my psyche about it which he was supposed to have done.
Avatar m tn From what Ive been told, Tylenol (Acetaminophen) is one of the worst things you can take when it comes to your liver. Im pretty sure the Rx drugs Ambien and Lunesta are both easier on the liver. The only downside of course being they are quite habit-forming.
Avatar f tn he has cirrious of liver and hepc. can this be related to the liver not working ? he is being seen every 6 months for mri of the liver and spleen. spleen is now 22cm enlarged. he is getting worse everyday. not sleeping and even takes ambien cr. mood swings etc.. is there anything he can take for the itch he is taking advair so he cant take benadryl. hope you have a suggestion. we go back to philly for a checkup in about 3 months.
Avatar f tn Hi Lynne, I was prescribed Xanax (alprazolam) for anxiety as well as Ambien (zolpidem) for sleep. I didn’t use the Ambien much, and although it was very effective, insomnia wasn’t an issue for me.
Avatar n tn Now I am post TX and the insomnia has not yet left, so they prescribed Ambien and Lunesta for me (i grew allergic to something in the benedryl). They are all harmless to liver but the ambien & lunesta do cause dependence so I alternate them: Ambien for a couple nights, then lunesta (which does not work as well for me) for one night. The 'dependence' is not a big deal; just means you'll have a several very sleepless nights after you quit them.
Avatar m tn He will not go for help and it is 3 years now and he is crunching about 5-10 percs and 2 ambien a day. Can someone explain to me what the affects of this combo will be and what damange is being done. I am at my wits end. Maybe if I can tell him the damage he has done, it will get him to go for help! He has overdosed 5 times in the last two years and they have been bad. I am afraid one day I am going to find him dead or he is going to have organ failure.
Avatar m tn d avoid benedryl and tylenol like the plague. Very hard on the liver, So is Ambien but some folks need it. The only issue is that it IS addictive in the sense that it takes weeks to sleep well again after a long course of it, and it is closely related to the Benzo classification of drugs (valium, ativan, librium) which is considered the most additive of all classes, and more dangerous to withdraw from than heroin.
Avatar f tn Has tried ambien, then ambien with tylenol pm (for the benadryl), then ambien with just benadryl, then trazadone 50mg, and now temazepam 15mg. Nothing works. He falls a sleep for an hour or so, and that's it. He's an absolute wreck. Have any of you had severe sleeping problems? Anything work?? It's hard enough dealing with tx, but add no sleep, and it's just impossible... Thanks for any suggestions you can give.
Avatar f tn Is there a relation to this and liver or kidney disease? I have this every day now -especially at night . Meds- none new but I do take atenolol rapid heart beat .Ambien. lipitor, prozac.325 mg. aspirin, daily. The finger tips bother me most. Both hands started at the same time so I doubt because of this that it would be carpal tunnel? i was tested for diabetes recently and it was negative =.there is a family history .
Avatar m tn I take 10 mg of Ambien Sun-Thurs, is it okay for me to take 2 Tylenol PMs on Fri & Sat nights?
Avatar f tn Vicodon can have a hepatotoxic effect, but only in large dosages and your dosage is relatively low. However, lexipro is hard on the liver and has been known to cause hepatitis in large dosages. Also, diabetes can be related to various liver problems as well. So given your diabetes combined with the lexipro, you should talk to your doctor about having your liver panel blood testing done on a fairly regular basis.
Avatar f tn Your doctor would know best which meds might hurt your liver or not. The hepC on it's own can hurt your liver terribly so it is crucial that you take as good care of it now as you can. Is there any way you can do some examination to find out where you stand (ie: a biopsy (which isn't painful like it sounds), liver enzyme levels things like that? there is no such thing as 'dormant' hepC - you either have it or you don't have it.
Avatar n tn Ambien will help you get some sleep so yes I would say it is good. I worked for a Dr. before and the highest dose I saw given was a total of 12mg. So if the tab was 6mg then the patient could take 2. Taking 2 10mg of ambien seems a little high to me.Maybe someone else could answer better than me. I am one of those people that ambien doesn't work. I have tried Ambien cr, Lunesta (sp?) and regular Ambien and still couldn't get any sleep.
233616 tn?1312787196 I will be honest though and tell you I am still on the Ambien and have NO desire to ever ever ever go off them as long as I live. I never was a good sleeper to begin with and with them at least I make sure to get a couple of hours in. You know better than anybody Merry you just gotta do what you gotta do even if it's not any fun. I'm sorry you are having such a tough time of it.
Avatar f tn Cirrhosis can contribute to sleeplessness and/or inverted sleep cycles, memory loss, and confusion or worse (called hepatic encephalopathy) due to liver insufficiency and possible accumulation of ammonia and toxins in the bloodstream.
Avatar n tn Nausea and some cramping of stomach/esophagus continued to this day. I was given Ambien for sleep and discovered that 5mg of Ambien is the only thing that takes away the nausea. I have tried Phenergan, Zofram, Librax and Ativan.....all to no avail. My doctor says he has now idea why Ambien works. I do not have a history of any dependence. I have never smoked, drank alcohol. or used pain medication other than Tylenol.
5326543 tn?1367587265 I have the same problem. I'm constantly tired and weak, but have insomnia. It's a side-effect from ribaviron, also, but it's a common hep-c problem. I love this tea that I get at Target for about $5. It does a pretty good job of knocking me out: http://www.tazo.com/tazo-rest/011024286,default,pd.html?cm_mmc=Google-_-Tazo+Brand-+Herbal+Tea+(Exact)-_-Rest-_-Rest&gclid=CLfZi53947YCFUxxQgodGC8AcA It's just an extremely stressful and tiring process.
Avatar m tn I had to take Ambien because of insomnia when treating. It was heaven sent for me. I could not sleep prior to that. I did notice as have others that after a period of time I would only sleep 5 hours then wake up. It is addictive as tashka said. Weaning off them after TX was over was not a big deal for me. I am over 6 months post treatment and sleep like a rock every night with no sleep aides. My advice to you is if insomnia is a problem and your doctor is recomending them than take them.
Avatar m tn I'm no doctor, so I definitely can't give you any medical information on Ambien, but I can relay my personal experience with it. I've been on Ambien (currently 10mg) for SEVERAL years now (5 or more). I have many chronic pain conditions, including fibroymalgia. One of the major symptoms of fibro is insomnia - which I definitely suffer from!
Avatar f tn I am so grateful for Dr. Sherr's articles! They were so helpful in explaining some of what was going on inside my body. The Bell's Palsy of the Gut was very eye opening for me. I have definitely had the sensitivity issue.
1568041 tn?1311615212 Does she think it's an issue? Personally,I think Ambien is a dangerous drug to be taking all the time. But,if she can't sleep and hasn't increased her dose for a year, then this is her lifestyle. I don't agree with it either but I know insomnia can be just horrible. There are other things she can take. If she wants to try it, suggest Melatonin and Valerian root. It's safe and it works for a lot of people. However, anyone on SSRI's should avoid Melatonin.
Avatar f tn Thanks all for the input. Think I will try to stop the ambien altogether...I know it is a hypnotic agent and affects brain chems..,something that I am hypersensitive to avoid now as I'm trying to get my own brains chems and receptors fired up again, using a holistic diet and supplements and avoiding any/all chemical stuff. Will also reduce the melatonin and see if I can get through just some completely restless nights to where I was years ago happily able to roll over and just go to sleep.
