Common Questions and Answers about Allergies fever in dogs

allergies

Avatar n tn The wheezing may be a simple allergy issue. Dogs suffer from seasonal allergies the same way humans do, and with Spring coming on they can get runny noses that got further into a bacterial infection. The loss of appetite and lethargy has me concerned as even dogs who are very ill will usually at least try to eat a little bit. If your dog is noticeably wheezing, you may have a case of pneumonia or bronchitis on your hands.
Avatar m tn Dog allergies are very common and due to saliva of the dog. “Allergy to dogs is relatively common, as dog allergen can be found in public places, including daycare facilities.” “For people with dog allergy, avoidance of dogs is the mainstay of therapy. Allergy medications are likely to help control symptoms, but in many instances symptoms may persist if the person owns one or more indoor dogs. Allergy shots may also be a good treatment option for people who are allergic to their pet dogs.
Avatar n tn Most dogs with food allergies also have environmental allergies. Environmental allergies don't have to occur only from things that are outside. Dust mites, storage mites and indoor molds are high allergens also. Since allergens penetrate dogs skin it is good to bathe your dog very frequently (once per week) with medicated, hypoallergenic shampoo. Environment allergies are impossible to control. A Hepa air filter will help for indoor and outdoor allergens.
Avatar n tn You need to make an appointment with your vet to see what the cause of the redness is. If it's in both ears, it could be caused by allergies or he could have a yeast infection in his ears. A yeast infection, while not as easy to clear up as a run-of-the-mill ear infection, CAN be cured with medication.
Avatar f tn A few months ago I noticed a few "bites" on my buttocks. They don't itch, but they hurt. It's not all over, just on a specific section of my back side. If I go to pop them - the "puss" is hard and white, or none at all. I disinfected my whole house and change my sheets almost everyday. Could it be allergies? I do have seasonal allergies - but I've never had actual bumps before. And if they are - how do I get rid of them.

415109 tn?1304890182 We have a 9 yr old Low Chen who for the past 2 weeks has been hacking and coughing almost constantly. He did have valley fever 2 years ago and was treated successfully and his titer is negative. He coughs but doesn't cough anything up-just sounds like he is going to choke or get something out. sometimes rubbing his throat gently and calming him down will make it quit but as soon as you stop he starts again. He is in otherwise good health.
Avatar n tn and it was very itchy -- arms neck, eyes. It seems to be very slightly better today.
Avatar f tn My symptoms lasted about 4 wks before I finally felt normal again. I continued to see the ENT who tested me for allergies (dogs, grass, dust mold, etc........). I came out w/mod to severe allergies. They started me on an allergy serum at least 4-5 months ago (supposed to desensitize me to allergens). So, for my question. I feel like I have the typical diagnosable sinus infection.
Avatar n tn Not only would it be unfair to the people who ended up buying the puppies, speaking not only in terms of medical bills but also in terms of watching the dog they love suffer with the allergies, it would be unfair to the dogs themselves, since they would be the ones suffering with the allergies. I know it's not what you wanted to hear, but when it comes to creating new lives, we must be as realistic as possible and strive to do only what's best for the dogs in question.
Avatar f tn Ask about Chlorpheniramine, Clemastine, hydroxyzine or doxepin. The last 2 are used as antidepressants in humans but for dogs they are antihistamines. To keep costs down find out the dosing and price shop pharmacy's as these are all human drugs too so any pharmacy will carry them. Coscto.com has really great prices and you don't need a membership for the pharmacy. Other things that can help is wiping paws down every time their outside. Shampooing twice weekly with Malaseb is great.
Avatar f tn I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.
2059648 tn?1439766665 p.s. Dog allergies, both contact allergies and inhalant allergies such as "hay fever," often manifest in severe itching (rather than seeezing, as in humans) that leads to chewing. If you can eliminate the source of the allergy, or if it's an unavoidable allergen, treat it with appropriate veterinary meds, the chewing can sometimes be diminished or even eliminated. Other causes of paw chewing are loneliness or separation anxiety.
Avatar f tn hey guys, I'm 4 weeks pregnant and the whole time I've been getting sinus allergies from mine and my partners dogs!!
874521 tn?1424116797 Food allergies only account for 10 percent of allergy problems in dogs. Dogs often can not tolerate soy products, wheat, corn, beef, pork, chicken, milk, whey, eggs, fish, chemical preservatives, or artificial sugars in their food. Determining the food allergen can be time consuming. First, eliminate all the possible allergens from the diet, by using a home made diet consisting of a protein and a starch the dog has not eaten before.
Avatar f tn Fish Oil is always an excellent supplement to throw in as well. An excellent all-in-one supplement I use comes in powder form, (mix it in with wet food)- its made by 4Life, and its called "Transfer Factor,Canine Complete - a bit spendy, but if your dog has any potential health issues at all, this stuff goes a long way in keeping a dog in optimal health/strengthened immune system.
Avatar f tn It could also be a fungal infection, which is more common in dogs with floppy ears. The ear fold keeps in more moisture than in pointed-eared dogs. It would be a good idea to have your vet take a look so you're not blindly throwing things at the problem that may not work, or may make the situation worse. It's also a good idea to occasionally check for, and remove, any ear wax that is visible. We swab ears with a Q-tip about once a month.
Avatar f tn I never recommend steroid shots in dogs due to side effects, and in general steroids are minimally helpful in cases of food allergy. The flaking of the skin is most likely due to a secondary bacterial skin infection, which should be treated with antibiotics; steroids will worsen skin infection. The diet change alone will not resolve infection, but the correct hypoallergenic diet should prevent itch and infections from recurring.
Avatar m tn Could not even stay with a cat in the room. I went to an alllergy specialist (in Turkey) and he prepared me a vaccination. It was not sold in the pharmacies, it was something he prepared). I did the vaccination for 4 years and my allergy is more bearable now. If I am in a cat environment I take my allergy pill and I am OK.. maybe you should change your doctor and take second opinion??
Avatar m tn I suffer from year round allergies and am allergic to cats and dogs but for the last couple of months my inner and outer eyes have been constantly itching me. When I do itch them, they would swell and by the morning become crusty on my upper and lower eyelids and leaves dark stains around them.
3170462 tn?1344717552 t mean to sound obtuse, but a specialist of what? Cats? Allergies? Cat allergies? Do these specialists have a title or a specific field of study that I can begin searching for one by?
Avatar f tn ive had a slight fever the past couple days. What does everyone do to make it go away?
Avatar m tn m a 27 year old male and have worked in front of a computer for many years now. I related the headaches and pain to eye strain and tension headaches. I had an eye exam, my vision was still great but the doctor did prescribe me some computer glasses. So far, this hasnt seemed to help much. My neck does get tight and my wife who is a massage therapist, performs deep tissue massages on me and it does help relive the headaches, but not the overall pressure I experience.
8778737 tn?1413827423 t really developed any new allergies except my dogs hair makes me break out from time to time. But the allergies I do have have gotten worse (lavender, nickel, basil).
7112191 tn?1389290072 I overlooked the part about the stinky ears. It is true that dogs that have food allergies tend to get recurrent ear infections. It almost sounds like a possible food allergy is being exacerbated by a flea allergy. Ask your vet about a food trial where the dog gets a new protein source exclusively for a minimum of 12 weeks to see if it could be the problem. Does the dog have lots of gas or diarrhea? This would also support a food allergy.
