Avatar m tn This condition is associated with bone pain, bone deformity, and an increased incidence of fracture. Involvement of the skull is associated with headache along with dysmorphic features. Until recently, the principal treatment has been resection or fracture repair, although the latter is often palliative at best. However, new insight into the molecular mechanism of fibrous dysplasia has led to the use of bisphosphonates to treat this disease.

Avatar m tn Closed reduction and internal fixation with 3 cannualted screws I met with an accident 7 weeks ago and as a result I had a neck of femur fracture in my left hip.
Avatar f tn It all depends upon what kind of a fracture it is and where the fracture is. And even if tere is no fracture, there could be plenty of other injuries that could result from a fall that would cause pain in that area, but would not prevent the person from being able to walk. It is really annoying when people state such absolutes without bothering to gather any information to support their assertion. Were any x-rays or MRI images or anything done?
1131208 tn?1260207946 I too feel as if I am leading the life of an 80 year old. Anyway, the small fracture inside my left hip { NOT a fracture of the hip BONE } did NOT show up on an x-ray !! A bone fracture will show up on an x-ray. When I sustained this fracture to a band of tissue inside my hip it barely even hurt I barely noticed it because it is an injury to soft tissue not bone. However, over time AVN and osteoarthritis can set in ..
Avatar f tn Hi, As you know there is a fracture of vertebra, most of the symptoms like pain, inability to walk are due to the same as there is a compression of the nerves. Along with the spinal fracture, there could be an associated fracture of the hip leading to the swelling of the hip and leg , pain and discomfort on walking. Physiotherapy seems to have aggravated your symptoms. Please go for an X ray of the hip joint and consult an orthopaedic surgeon along with the neurologist.
Avatar n tn Hi--I had an MRI of the right hip due to right hip pain following some recent trauma. The results were (R) hip joint effusion and bone marrow edema involving the neck and head of the femur. The possibility of underlying occult fracture is suggested. All else normal. Recommended to see a orthropedic specialist. Any opinions as to the meaning of these results and what can a orthro M.D. do?

Avatar n tn Hello and thank you for the question. Some people limp after hip surgery post fracture because of weakness in hip abductor muscles or gluteous maximus or gluteous minimus. which stabilize your hips when you walk. Working with a physical therapist after such surgery helps prevent or minimize walking with a limp. Rehabilitation post surgery is very important. I see that your husband did physical therapy but that it didn't prevent limping. That is unfortunate.
Avatar n tn He then ordered an MRI which showed a hip fracture and upon further review the fracture...which at that point was a stress fracture...had been apparent in the initial x-ray. So within 2 days of the MRI I had my hip pinned and 10 days later here I am. My doctor said that non weight bearing no driving for 6-8 weeks. So far post op things seem to have gone pretty smoothly but I have been really down and weepy.
Avatar n tn i have been diagnosed with hip arthritis and a stress fracture in my right hip. i have chronic pain and weakness in my right leg. i have been put on fasimax with calcium and vitimin d. what are my chances of getting better and not having to have a hip replacement? This discussion is related to weakness in legs.
Avatar f tn If it hurts that bad, get it checked.
Avatar m tn After seeing a podiatrist and having a bone scan it was determined that I had a stress fracture in my cuboid bone. During that time I was in the Army and had already been diagnosed with plantar fascistis, heel spur, bone spur in my ankle, and possible osteoarthritis in my midfoot. The doctor said that I could just wear a boot for 3 weeks and then it would be fine. I got out of the Army a few weeks later and when I returned to the States I saw a podiatrist at the VA as I was still in pain.

1021831 tn?1331605848 I'm a 58 female, have M.S. (for 30 years), osteoarthritis, 2 hip replacements and recently lost my balance in the bathroom & fell on my tailbone, ( nothing cracked or broken), but it does hurt, even in the right groin area . the dr. gave me tylenol #3 and I take ibuprophen to help. Anything I can do to help? Afraid I'm going to fall & break the hip. The right hip was the latest hip replacement done (4 years ago).
Avatar m tn a little under a week ago, she was movin her leg, her hip popped. she now has a bruise, that has grown on the inside of her thigh, on the same side. when you move her leg, her hip pops? she sweats, has dizzy spells....
Avatar f tn My mother is 70, she broke her hip and has undergone a total hip replacement surgery. 3 weeks after the surgery she suffered a dislocation of the prosthesis. Although there is no fracture and the prosthesis is in good condition, a surgeon has suggested that she needs to undergo a further surgery to modify the prosthesis. This is because, as she suffered a stroke 25 years ago, and has a residual hemiparesis on the hip replacement side, the surgeon thinks that dislocations will reoccur.
Avatar f tn I took my first dose of Alendronate and then experience significant muscle pain for the next 4 days. Does anyone know if I should expect this to happen each time I take it or is it something to happen for the first few times until my body adjusts to the medicine?
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar f tn Yesterday I had an x-ray to check for fracture of hip as I could put no weight on my left leg without agonising pain shooting from my hip, down the front and side of my thigh to my knee, and also into my groin. I have never felt pain like it. I also have numbness from knee to hip which is a weird sensation considering the pain. Although I was told there was no fracture I was given a walking frame and an offer of physiotherapy to be taken at home.
