Aldara for herpes

Common Questions and Answers about Aldara for herpes

aldara

Avatar f tn I'm not sure why you were given aldara for pinched skin. it's a treatment for genital warts and molluscum. Aldara is very irritating to the genital skin. It's very common for the symptoms you've described to occur. ruling out herpes is never a bad idea but odds are it's due to the aldara. I'd get a 2nd opinion on the area you were using the aldara on and not continue using it until you get a better diagnosis than what you were evidently given the first time.
Avatar m tn what is the normal time it takes for the skin redness and burning to heal after using aldara? i used it for about a month and a half and my penis has never been the same even after 3 weeks off the awful drug. if anyone could offer anything thatd be great. im trying to go see a derm doc. i cant live with this burning pain for the rest of my life. dont know where to go... thanks.
Avatar n tn After using Aldara for 8 weeks or so the warts went away and my doctor said that they were gone and I could stop using Aldara. About a week ago I noticed that two warts were back and my doctor said to continue use of Aldara. I was wondering how long Aldara takes to get rid of warts and when they do go away, how often may the warts reappear?
Avatar n tn Stick with just a regular skin moisturizer type product since the doctor you saw thought it was mainly dry skin down yonder at this point. Aldara was actually tested for use in decreasing herpes ob's several times now ( not consistantly successful for the majority of folks using it ). You don't have to worry about it making your herpes go wild or anything like that. Nothing like that happened in the studies they did with it. You'll never be able to figure out when you contracted hsv2.
Avatar f tn Please tell me if you think I have herpes or if it’s related to the Aldara. I’ve read that one can get herpes-like symptoms from Aldara. Is it normal to experience this a week after I’ve stopped using it? Is it normal for it to last this long? Is it possible? I’m very petrified, too petrified to go back to my gyno. Please help.
Avatar m tn You might need to get this checked by a doctor to rule out infection. If you hadn't applied aldara, I'd say get checked for herpes, but I doubt its herpes.
Avatar f tn Hang in there - I know it's really easy for us to say this probably isn't herpes but from the aldara and hard for you to relax about it. We'd be the same way even with all we know if we were going thru it ourselves!
Avatar f tn My gyn put me on aldara for my gential warts, i started and within a week i discovered i had an open sore at the opening of my vagina, maybe i wasn'tas careful as i should of using it, but 2 days later this thing is painful as hell, i call my gyn and he tells me to come in, i told him i suspect is a side effect from aldara, he has a look at it and tells he he think it looks just like a herpes open sore, he sent me for a blood test for that.

Avatar n tn I went to the doctor and he said that it could be herpes. They have taken a sample of the sore for culture and blood and have said it would take a week. The sore is not on the wart itself but close to it where the cream did get applied. I would use the entire packet and spread the cream to surrounding areas and sometimes would take a late shower on the weekend and so it would stay longer. The doctor said that if it was Aldara side effects then it would have happened on the wart itself too.

Avatar n tn Even though all the tests were negative the doctor give me a script for a herpes med because he said the sores looked like herpes. I have not been with anyone in 7 weeks. Could these sores be from the aldara or do I have herpes even after a negative test result?
Avatar n tn Hey, I've been using Aldara for about a little over a month, and within the last couple weeks I noticed some pronounced red areas. They seam to have gotten slightly larger. But there's been no cracking/blistering or really much irritation (maybe slight). I haven't experienced any of the other flu like symptoms or pain associated with HSV. Is this something I should be concerned with? What else should I take note of?
Avatar n tn Could I be having a herpes outbreak instead of just a severe reaction to Aldara? I haven't ever had a reaction like this since I started using Aldara 10 weeks ago. Although, I think I may have gotten some of the cream on an area that was healthy genital skin. Another thing I will note is that I have been wearing tight clothing in hot weather and have had some irritation from that... Any help or advice you can offer would be great. Thank you!
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Aldara for GW and used it twice, as directed with a day in between. The side effects, fever/chills and pain were horrible, almost unbearable, so I stopped using it. Now I have these sores in the vaginal area that sting and burn to the point that walking and even sitting up is painful. I'm wondering if I can put bacitracin on them to heal them faster, or is there something I can use for healing and the pain?
Avatar f tn Is there any link to aldara stopping your menstral cycle? Just used stopped using it and haven't had my cycle since I used it. Since July 2 I haven't had any menstration. My boyfriend has a vasectomy (14 years). I have taken like 5 pregnancy tests (all negative) and I'm looking at the calender and its been 9 weeks since any kind of flow. I haven't used it in 2 weeks. Im not on the pill, dont have any STIs (neither of us - tests came back).
Avatar n tn I started aldara treatment for GW about 4 weeks ago. most of the warts have disappeared by now.. only a few remaining. My question is regarding the severity of my adverse affects. I experienced fatigue, muscle aches, ulcerations, blisters, swollen labias, redness, pain, cracked open skin, itching, peeling. My latest concern is this giant rash that appeared just during my period.about 10 days ago. I was using pads (i read that tampons could spread warts??) anyway the whole area blew up.
Avatar n tn I have had no problems with them and have had sex with my wife for years with no problems. Recently I read about a cream called Aldara for warts that said applying this cream 3 times a week could eliminate warts and that the sides effects were mild. I thought i would order it and try it, thinking it couldn't hurt if it wasn't a wart. I applied the cream as instructed every other day for about 2 weeks ( 6 or 7 applications).
Avatar n tn This is no question but rather a clarification. I have been using aldara for about a month and a half, and judgeing by the topics, several others need some guidence. I caught Molluscum contagium, maybe from the gym, maybe from sex who knows, who cares. I noticed some very small hybrid of pimples and warts in my gentital area. So of course, like most of you, I freaked. I am a healthy 21 year old male who has had a fairly modest sexual life (less than 10 partners, no one night stands).
Avatar f tn I fully expected to break out with herpes, but I never did. My blood tests for herpes, HIV, syphillis all came back negative, as did swabs for chylamidia and gonnnerea. Then I developed a couple of small bumps around the labial area. I went back to my gyno. She then told me it looked like Molluscsum Contagiosum and gave me Aldara cream to use. Well, I used it all over my genital area for 3 days. On the 3rd day - I developed 5 small ulcers. They didn't hurt. I went back to my gyno.
Avatar n tn i broke out into tiny blisters went back to the OB and had too do a biopsy for herpes. i thought i was gonna die. 10 agonizing days later, found out it wasnt herpes just a reaction to the medication. i have not had any new HPV infections since i was told in june.
Avatar n tn If you are treating this with aldara at home - these are most likely side effects of the medication.
Avatar f tn I have definitely seen aldara cause very significant ulcers in the genital area, for sure! Eight percent of people who use aldara have irritation from the medicine, it is part of the way the medicine functions, to cause enough irritation to bring immune cells to the surface of the skin to become of aware of the virus being there. Having said that, if you didn't have this reaction to Aldara the first time, you definitely need to get these lesions evaluated and swab tested by PCR for herpes.
Avatar f tn She also took a sample for any bacterial infections. Obviously there is no guarantee that it is not herpes but she said for now to not jump to any conclusions until I get the results. Easier said than done :-) Should have them by the end of the week!
Avatar f tn They tested me for Chlamydia, treated me for it but I won't get the results back for at least 3 weeks to a month. I wasn't really having any symptoms for Chlamydia but I went down to be checked for all STDs, However ,for the past 3-4 years I HAVE had a discharge, bleeding after sex (probably only twice) and burning during sex (except when using ultra thin condoms with little lubrication).
Avatar f tn Hello. Question that is driving me nuts. For the past month or so, I have had a feeling like something is not quite right down below. It started with itchiness and I tried a yeast infection treatment that sort of worked. A little irritation still existed. Then I noticed what felt like a cut or abrasion to my clitoris. That went away. I might mention I am in a monogamous 7 year relationship and neither of us have had breakouts, but my husband has been predisposed to cold sores since childhood.
Avatar m tn After my doctor burned my warts off, he instructed me to use a cream for 3 days, then a powder for 3 days, and then Aldara 5% every other day for a few weeks. He instructed me not to masturbate/ have sex for the first 6 days after the burning procedure. Three or four days after the procedure, I had a weak moment and masturbated. To my dismay, I noticed my penis hurting and looked at it to see it had started bleeding.
