Aldara and herpes

Common Questions and Answers about Aldara and herpes

aldara

Avatar f tn When prescribed the Aldara, my doctor didn't make me concerned about this area as being anything unusual or not normal. A few days after using the Aldara, I began to form sores and redness in that area as well as on my genitals. A GYN said I had herpes and sent out a culture. I'm waiting for the results. However, she didn't want to discuss the possibility of the Aldara causing the reaction. Has anyone else experienced this?
Avatar n tn After using Aldara for 8 weeks or so the warts went away and my doctor said that they were gone and I could stop using Aldara. About a week ago I noticed that two warts were back and my doctor said to continue use of Aldara. I was wondering how long Aldara takes to get rid of warts and when they do go away, how often may the warts reappear?
Avatar m tn what is the normal time it takes for the skin redness and burning to heal after using aldara? i used it for about a month and a half and my penis has never been the same even after 3 weeks off the awful drug. if anyone could offer anything thatd be great. im trying to go see a derm doc. i cant live with this burning pain for the rest of my life. dont know where to go... thanks.
Avatar n tn A few months later the warts came back and I revisited the clinic and they were frozen once again, but this time I was given 'Aldara' cream to apply three times a week on the warts. I have visited the GUM clinic around four or five times since and been given the freezing treatment followed by Aldara cream and although every time I had the full STI testing this was found to be the only virus I had (or had symptoms for).
Avatar f tn I had mild skin irritation while I was on it, but a week after I had stopped the Aldara I developed a rash around my anus near where I had been using Aldara and I’m worried it’s herpes. It was a red rash. It itched, felt irritated, and the skin was shiny. I would compare it to mild sunburn. I never saw breaks in the skin: no blisters, ulcers, or scabs. There were, however, tiny, red, separated dots in the rash around the hair follicles I think. I didn’t have any fever, aches, or tingling.
Avatar m tn Maybe it's a skin reaction to Aldara. But it would be best to be seen by a doctor right away and get a proper answer. Such bump could be a number of things, including herpes.
Avatar m tn You might need to get this checked by a doctor to rule out infection. If you hadn't applied aldara, I'd say get checked for herpes, but I doubt its herpes.
Avatar n tn I went to the doctor and he said that it could be herpes. They have taken a sample of the sore for culture and blood and have said it would take a week. The sore is not on the wart itself but close to it where the cream did get applied. I would use the entire packet and spread the cream to surrounding areas and sometimes would take a late shower on the weekend and so it would stay longer. The doctor said that if it was Aldara side effects then it would have happened on the wart itself too.

Avatar f tn My gyn put me on aldara for my gential warts, i started and within a week i discovered i had an open sore at the opening of my vagina, maybe i wasn'tas careful as i should of using it, but 2 days later this thing is painful as hell, i call my gyn and he tells me to come in, i told him i suspect is a side effect from aldara, he has a look at it and tells he he think it looks just like a herpes open sore, he sent me for a blood test for that.

Avatar f tn She did a swab of an ulcer and it came back negative for herpes. 4 weeks later I took another blood test and it also came back negative for herpes. The ulcers I had I suspected might have been from the Aldara cream - some sort of immune reaction. They cleared up in 2 days (I did use Chorophor on them). Since then I had another round of bloodwork for all of the above mentioned stds and all came back negative. I saw a dermatologist who did a biopsy and confirmed the molluscum.
Avatar n tn I have a large cluster of them around my anus (very embarassing I know), which are very uncomfortable and make it difficult to go to the bathroom. I was prescribed with Aldara Cream and I just started using it. I'm wondering if anyone else has had experience with this cream and its effectiveness on genital warts.
Avatar n tn Hey, I've been using Aldara for about a little over a month, and within the last couple weeks I noticed some pronounced red areas. They seam to have gotten slightly larger. But there's been no cracking/blistering or really much irritation (maybe slight). I haven't experienced any of the other flu like symptoms or pain associated with HSV. Is this something I should be concerned with? What else should I take note of?
Avatar n tn I ended up getting open wound/lesion type blisters all over my scrotum, and I went wasted a lot of time and money on Herpes tests (all negative). So it sounds like you should get off the Aldara, or use a lot less of it, I was slathering too much on and it also gave my flu like symtpoms, it wasn't until I barely dabbed it on to the warts did those complications go away (except for constipation).
Avatar f tn It is entirely possible that the symptoms you have now are from the Aldara, and its not herpes, but its also possible that you have herpes. Your test results will help prove that. My suggestion would be to take the pills, and have your bf test for herpes. If he doesn't have it, you couldn't have gotten it from him, right? I'd also bet that neither of you have tested for herpes before - its not usually included.
Avatar f tn Is there any link to aldara stopping your menstral cycle? Just used stopped using it and haven't had my cycle since I used it. Since July 2 I haven't had any menstration. My boyfriend has a vasectomy (14 years). I have taken like 5 pregnancy tests (all negative) and I'm looking at the calender and its been 9 weeks since any kind of flow. I haven't used it in 2 weeks. Im not on the pill, dont have any STIs (neither of us - tests came back).
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Aldara for GW and used it twice, as directed with a day in between. The side effects, fever/chills and pain were horrible, almost unbearable, so I stopped using it. Now I have these sores in the vaginal area that sting and burn to the point that walking and even sitting up is painful. I'm wondering if I can put bacitracin on them to heal them faster, or is there something I can use for healing and the pain?
Avatar n tn One another suggestion is to apply some moisturizer or petrolium jelly on the skin surrounding the warts while applying the aldara on warts... remember, aldara is to be applied on warts only and should not come in contact with the healthy skin...
Avatar n tn After about two weeks I started developing a very red, painful spot just below the pimples underneath the penis head, as well as a spot on my scrotum on the same side. The lesions are very red, and sore with some sloughing it seems. One looks like a large herpes lesion(which I have never had there). I stopped the application a week ago and the lesions don't appear to be improving. I applied hydrocotisone cream and have made an appointment with a dermatologist for one week from now.
Avatar n tn Clean yourself afterwards and you will be fine. I subsequently supplemented with Echinacea pills. Aldara is an immune system activator, hence supplements to boost your immune system is a great asset. Two days later my skin became very red in this area, blisters stated to form and itchiness set in. And oh yea, my lymph nodes swelled up in the groin area. THIS IS IMPORTANT and GREAT! all of this is supposed to happen!
Avatar n tn I am having occassional itching, tingling, and some kind of sensation at the tip of my penis and sometimes inside of the penis. Do these sound like herpes to you? The worst thing is that I don't have these feelings anymore as soon as I go to washroom to check it out, can these symptoms caused by my anxiety? Actually, I have had a swab test done 3 months ago, so I am wondering could these sensation cause by the swab? Thanks in advance for your help!
Avatar f tn I have genital HPV and I was treating the warts using Aldara. Applied a lot of the cream Monday to the outside of lower labia minora. Wednesday the labia was hard, swollen and really sore. Friday the swelling was reduced and in it place were 2 sore lesions located just inside the labia. I am now convinced it is herpes from looking at pictures online and reading the symptoms. I am also experiencing tingling down there too!

Avatar f tn Yes, I have been but it doesn't seem to be doing much as I have a lot of lesions and not enough Aldara. Question, does herpes always burn and hurt? My lesions don't appear to be burning but I used Apple Cider Vinegar on a lot of the lesions which appearred to scab them all, as well as the ones that were swabbed the other day and then they started to itch and most of the ones she swabbed (except one) went away which makes me worry I had waited too long to get tested.
Avatar f tn I happened to have my annual exam on the Monday one week after we came back and the gyno said the papercuts could be bacterial, yeast, or HERPES??? She tested for all three, cultured and they came back negative. Wheww...or so I thought. She said it could be just from irritation or from my husbands use of topical Aldara, which we are careful not to use before sex, we wait about 3 days....Then a few days later I noticed it was sore down there and hurt like a UTI.
Avatar m tn After my doctor burned my warts off, he instructed me to use a cream for 3 days, then a powder for 3 days, and then Aldara 5% every other day for a few weeks. He instructed me not to masturbate/ have sex for the first 6 days after the burning procedure. Three or four days after the procedure, I had a weak moment and masturbated. To my dismay, I noticed my penis hurting and looked at it to see it had started bleeding.
