Common Questions and Answers about Aldara and pregnancy

aldara

Avatar f tn My boyfriend has a vasectomy (14 years). I have taken like 5 pregnancy tests (all negative) and I'm looking at the calender and its been 9 weeks since any kind of flow. I haven't used it in 2 weeks. Im not on the pill, dont have any STIs (neither of us - tests came back). I had a colposcopy done beginning of August and they did do a biopsy (just to be certain all was good) and kind of hurt my cervix a lil (first time ive ever felt pain) so Im sitting here confused and concerned.
Avatar n tn but its totally up to how u both feel about it.....me and my b/f both have it and he shows sign but i dont ,and we still have a great sex life.... the only problem is...if ur partner has sex with someone else that has HPV but a different strain which there is over 100 different types u can get the new strain of HPV..its kinda like collect the whole set..lol.. and im not saying thats gonna happen..its just a bit of info...
Avatar f tn I should add that I am not pregnant. But me and my fiance were trying.
Avatar n tn and they just appeared since my second pregnancy and im worried that my baby will be affected somehow with warts. why now why this pregnancy im worried plus i saw on TLC where that guy was half man half tree cause of warts.
Avatar n tn After 5 attempts at treatment with that doctor, I went to a different dermatologist who prescribed Aldara (which is usually for treating genital warts) and after using this cream for 2 weeks, there is NO improvement or even any indication that the cream is doing anything to "stimulate" my body to fight off the so-called wart. This new Dr seemed to think it looked more serious than a wart, but he reviewed the biopsy reports and concluded that it must be a wart.
Avatar f tn it usually starts to affect you when your immune system is compromised in any way, you may have it for years and years and never know it which is what happened in my case, I started smoking again and because that compromised my immune system the HPV kicked in ( I have since quit). Friday I gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby boy and HPV was NEVER a factor in the pregnancy, I was told it has absolutely no affect what so ever.
Avatar n tn The occasional clumpy green/yellow discharge continued here and there, but still, my OB/GYN insists I'm cleared of it, and that my having HPV will not affect my pregnancy. I have not had sex with my fiance for months and I know he's faithful. Every time I'm tested, the test comes back normal. -So I'm confused! What could be the possible reason for my continuing having these symptoms? Also, is it safe to use "Aldera" (I believe it's called) to remove genital warts during pregnancy?
Avatar m tn Lastly, once clear of GW's and one becomes pregnant does pregnancy increase the chance of reoccurance? Or is it the same, that once clear for a certain amount of time, it is unlikely for GW's to come back when a woman is pregnant? Thats all....once again, thank you for this website and for all you do....
Avatar n tn If spontaneous resolution does not occur, a course of Aldara will do the job. I have used Aldara during pregnancy in certain circumstances. There have not been any reported pregnancy problems. Very rarely, surgical resection is required for massively enlarged warts.
Avatar f tn , I have a very small wart on the roof of my mouth (it does not bother me in any way, and it is so small that I hardly ever remember its there) . An oral surgeon and my dentist both agreed that it was most likely a wart I acquired through oral sex at some point. 5 years ago I was diagnosed with genital warts in the perineum area and they were removed by freezing and before that treated with aldara. They never came back.
Avatar n tn The other treatments like use of liquid nitrogen, phenol and diathermy can be painful, and are not usually done on children. It is not known whether imiquimod (aldara) is safe to use during pregnancy or on children younger than 12. Also results of treatment of molluscum contagiousum with aldara are not that satisfactory. I would suggest that you discuss with your doctor, regarding the advantages and disadvantages of using aldara. Best.
Avatar n tn i know that i was diagnosed w/ cytolytic vaginosis awhile back so I read up on it, but w/ being prgenant I dont know if it is the right diagnosis. I am going pregnancy crazy trying to figure this out. It is effecting my life and I can't do my job as well. Again, thank you all..it is sooo good to know that I am not alone. I pray for us all!
Avatar f tn I have a feeling that your provider means that they are hpv . Did they give you aldara to put on them? Hpv and hsv are 2 totally seperate viruses. Personally I"d be very upset if my doctor couldn't come right out and say that I had hpv - it's never ok to lie and try to sugar coat anything for a patient . Skin tagsare not caused by a virus. They do not need treated. You should consider a 2nd opinion elsewhere to be honest.
Avatar m tn If this is not possible, only in your case (and not your wife's) you could treat them yourself with either Warticon (podophyllotoxin) or Aldara (Imiquimod). However in the case of your wife, these are contraindicated during pregnancy. Genital warts may rapidly enlarge during pregnancy, probably as a result of altered immune system or increased oestrogen/progesterone, but they regress after delivery often with complete resolution without any treatment.
Avatar n tn my good friend back home does these procedures for a living and he has mentioned that the 'burning technique' and then aldara application is outdated. i am in a different country though, so i'll take what i can get. first thing im doing when i get back, cyro son!!
Avatar f tn 5% podofilox solution, applied to the affected area but not to be washed off * A 5% 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) cream * Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) * Pulsed dye laser * Liquid nitrogen cryosurgery * Electric or laser cauterization * Condylox Podophyllin and podofilox should not be used during pregnancy, as they are absorbed by the skin and could cause birth defects in the fetus.
Avatar f tn Following a LEEP procedure and Aldara in 2004, I have been symptom free to date. I understand that my virus is most likely dormant. My partner and I have not had vaginal sex...but brief genital contact(tip of penis did touch outside of vagina with mucosal secretions and oral sex (once). Did I expose him to HPV? Could that have passed it on to him? HPV really took a toil on me emotionally. So I truly appreciate a forum where I can ask a question.
Avatar n tn Podophyllin and podofilox should not be used during pregnancy, as they are absorbed by the skin and could cause birth defects in the fetus. 5-fluorouracil cream should not be used while trying to become pregnant or if the person taking the medication could be pregnant. Small warts can be removed by freezing (cryosurgery), burning (electrocautery), or laser treatment. ref:http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn Either way, to properly diagnose HPV(so I was told by the dr), you would have to remove them and have them biopsied. My wife is embarassed, and a little scared they will spread, and shes not able to get any help from the Dr's. Would it be better to just go to a Gynocologist or a dermatologist?
4437866 tn?1388123224 They started off small at the beggining of my pregnancy but have since multiplied and gotten huge. I know its normal to happen during pregnancy but my doctor will not remove them til the baby is born the 4th of july. They will be horrible by then! I already feel ugly and dirty about it to the point I cry and won't let my hubby see me naked. I can't get my area waxed so now I feel like a neanderthal ( wrong spelling sorry)...
Avatar f tn Adverse effects include pain, irritation, soreness, and mild scarring. Repeated treatments are necessary. Imiquimod 5% (Aldara), an immune response modifier, stimulates production of interferon-alfa and other proinflammatory cytokines, inducing a tissue reaction known to be associated with viral clearance from the skin. Apply 3 times per week for up to 16 weeks or nightly for 4 weeks. Clearing can take up to 3 months. Tretinoin (Retin-A) 0.1% cream can be applied to lesions twice daily.
Avatar m tn all options work well in 60-70% of patients, and imiquimod (Aldara) is no better (and no worse) than others. Other choices are podofilox (Condylox is the main brand) and sinecatechins (Veregen), which like imiquimod allow treatment at home by the patient; and options that require office treatment, including podophyllin, bi- or trichloroacetic acid, freezing with liquid nitrogen, and wart removal/destruction by laser, electrocautery, or surgery.

Avatar f tn I found the acid worked great at killing off any new warts I had each week. I am using Aldara now and it's slow but then I only have 2 warts, the first one I ever got and I tend to wonder if it is even a wart and one I got between my last acid and first Aldara treatments. They are not growing so that's good. Just have to wait til this passes for good. Def have your doc look into any risk to the baby when passing through the birth canal.
Avatar f tn I treated the warts with Aldara and they disappeared in less than a month. I performed regular self exams for the first couple of years, but have not recently. For the first two years, I informed my partners of my previous condition. However, I chose not to tell my current boyfriend, as it has been 3 years and my understanding from my doctors and this forum is that I needn't worry about being contagious. After choosing not to tell my partner, I grew worried and thoroughly checked myself.
Avatar f tn yes there is only one external wart and its on my husband's. I have not had any for 3 years. I am not pregnant yet. What happens if I get pregnant before my husband gets cured? Will it affect the baby? I don't believe HPV will ever go away.
Avatar n tn then I had my cycle again and all over again with itching and burning and discharge and some swelling of the vulva area , So I call gyn again to find out she on vacation again so now I can she her partner he for some reason didn't think this was hpv which of course now has me think especially because I read a post of yours on June 22, 2010 02:26PM which you said " It would be unusual to have warts and not have a positive HPV test.
Avatar n tn My fiance was diagnosed with HPV (warts) recently after nearly three years of ignoring a bump that had increased to about 5 and he is treating it with Aldara. I had told him when we first mentioned it (within a few months of us seeing eachother and before we slept together) to get it checked out and I was foolish enough to think he had and it was all clear... so it is what it is. About after we started seeing eachother I went in for a routine PAP and there was nothing abnormal found.
Avatar f tn is it possible i could have been misdiagnosed with warts because when i first got an outbreak of warts it was a lot and it itched and burned im just not sure because i was so young i didnt pay much attention to the symptoms and when i last had it but i do remember the first and second time because the first time was when i found out i had it and my doctor gave me aldara and it went away and the second time it was really bad it hurt to pee and i had a lot of bumps but the 2nd outbreak was in 2008
Avatar n tn There is a cream that is applied by the patient called Aldara (you can read about it at www.aldara.com) and they usually go away after a few applications. Also, you can find some very useful information at the American Social Health Association's Web site. Go to: http://www.ashastd.org/learn/learn_hpv.cfm Good luck, and don't worry, usually after treatment (whether topical or surgical) the warts do not reappear.
