Avatar n tn confront them explain alcohol and drug are the same thing if he abused alcohol and he is willing to get them by "any means necessary" that sure sounds like there is a problem .
Avatar f tn Alcoholism and drug addiction are often referred to as “substance abuse” or “chemical dependency.” Alcoholics and nonalcoholics are, therefore, sometimes introduced to A.A. and encouraged to attend A.A. meetings. Anyone may attend open A.A. meetings. But only those with a drinking problem may attend closed meetings or become A.A. members. People with problems other than alcoholism are eligible for A.A. membership only if they have a drinking problem.
Avatar f tn Six weeks ago he was prescribed Vyavanse, he wanted to save his job because he was so unfocused and now has done wonders for his job-he is focused and dedicated to working as much as needed to get the job done, he is organized, and really proving himself with his company however, it seems that other issues are coming to light. In the past he has had alcohol and cocaine addiction issues, he was actually sober for five years.
268911 tn?1213744781 The heading should be use, abuse or addiction,,use would be taking as prescribed, abuse would be like someone who only drinks on sat.nite but always gets really wasted, addiction would be freaking out about a lost pill that you probably can do without pain wise till you get home but choose to do what you did,( everybody here including me has done as bad or worse).
Avatar f tn Is there any difference between addiction vs. physical dependence on drugs? If a person is physically dependent on alcohol, they are an alcoholic. If they are physically dependent on nicotine, they are addicted to tobacco. Makes sense that if they are physically dependent on pain pills that they are addicted.

Avatar f tn Naloxone is opioid receptor blocker (antagonist). They are combined together to prevent inter-venous abuse of this medication. In the US, Suboxone has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of opiate drug addiction. However many individuals who start using it to treat their addiction, become addicted to the Suboxone itself. Suboxone has a high rate of illicit abuse.
1563920 tn?1299288683 If you look at my past posts, I have been dealing with neurological issues for some time now. I have been very depressed about everything, from having to quit nursing to my inability to work and drive. During this time, I have been turning to alcohol to kind of deal with my problems, not such a good idea, I know!!! It hadn't seemed to be a problem until last night. A group of my friends, including my boyfriend, went out for my birthday.
Avatar m tn i don't know.. but i've heard there's an alcoholism Forum Board that is really helpful, here..

9299142 tn?1402941543 I am so glad that you have finally come to a realization that alcohol abuse is truly poisonous to your body. It leaches vitamins and nutrients out of you and damages your central nervous system. That is why I always suggest that alcohol detox take place in a hospital under medical supervision. You need to be on medication such as benzodiazepines to prevent seizures and have IV vitamin supplementation, especially thiamine, among others. Please do not take this advise lightly.
Avatar f tn Hi Again Jewel, I see that you have two very similar post regarding your concern for your son, the other is entitled "Pain." It is where I posted my comment yesterday. None of us are experts as you have discovered if you are reading posts and comments in our community. That said it's obviously to me that your son should not be drinking while taking opiates. I see that as the bigger issue. As I said yesterday your son may very well have chronic pain.
Avatar f tn Becoming free from alcohol is a very doable thing. But remaining free from alcohol takes work. I had to take part in my own recovery and work on myself so I would change. If I don't change nothing changes. Nobody could do that for me. But there are millions of us in recovery all over the world. So freedom for you is out there waiting. Keep your willingness and continue to make the steps in the right direction like you've described in your post. You don't have to be sick anymore.
Avatar f tn t work that way. Alcohol is a drug just like the others and is just as dangerous. I never liked alcohol. In fact, I've been drunk enough times to count on one hand. However, I plan to never drink again. Why? Because the brain has no way to differentiate between the chemicals that I use to alter my mood. You're discovering that addiction actually has very little to do with the substances we take. It's a mental disease that changes the very way we think.
1310633 tn?1430224091 He said the incident came only a week or two after campus officials met with UT fraternity and sorority student leaders about alcohol. The university, which generally forbids alcohol on campus, has anti-alcohol-abuse efforts, including unannounced checks of common areas in residence halls.
1801781 tn?1461629469 That seemed a bit high to me. However, I did find out that the US is the leading country for meds abuse. Question...does anyone really know??
948349 tn?1294380237 So basically... I've drank every single day for the past 2 weeks straight.... I've been averaging 4-5 beers a day... I don't drink wine or hard alcohol... but beer is still alcohol. Also been smoking cigarettes daily... 4-5 a day. And I'm thinking of just going cold turkey hard tomorrow. That is no beer, no cigs, no substance abuse whatsoever... and i know i have to quit coffee for a month just to make the other cravings go down. It's tough though...
1456870 tn?1304129806 I have had 5 spine surgeries. 2x failed micro diskectomy, L3-L4, L4-L5, L5-S1 PLIF, 1x removal of hardwear, L1-L2, L2-L3 fusion. So either way my back hurts constantly, as it should after all that. I have struggled with alcohol abuse, and medication abuse. I have about 6mth's free from drinking, not a problem, i just feel better. Now I am currently taking pain med's, Oxycontin 60mg 1am -1pm, and Oxycontin 40mg 2 @ lunch. I can say it has helped the most with the pain.
Avatar n tn First and foremost you and your sister are victims of his addiction. Unless your brother wants help, there is nothing you can do. He is an adult and if you get him to rehab he can leave at anytime.. You need to talk to his dr because with epilepsy I would think w/d could be dangerous. His dr can help him with monitoring his tapering and with the w/d. but all depends on him, does he want help? is he willing to fight the fight? keep us posted. prayers for you and your family.
Avatar n tn You have good reason to be worried. I doubt whether an a doctor would tell your daughter that there is no danger in this combination of drugs. This is indeed a dangerous combination and although she may be lucky and have no effect she is taking a very big risk and she should know that.
403399 tn?1201833095 Tramadol should never be given to another person, especially someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it. Tramadol can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.
2176476 tn?1338605299 Your health care team need to know if you are taking alcohol with any prescribed meds. Alcohol is a depressant and will make getting stable really hard. It is so good you are recognizing the need for help. You may want to reconsider AA. My understanding is that each group has a very different dynamic and sometimes you have to 'shop around' to find a good fit. My best friend is a former alcoholic and that is what I heard from her.
Avatar f tn Welcome...I don't know about adderall however I do believe you can taper from it. Just wait and someone will be along that can answer you better than I. I know there are dangers in some meds so wait to hear or better yet call your dr in the a.m. and ask what is the safest way to do this.
Avatar f tn You need to look at the emotions that are being triggered. At the end of the day, addiction is about self-abuse and you need to counteract it with lots of self love. You are supported here.
Avatar f tn Thanks worried...Your response was has good info.. and I appreciate it.. Gotta QUIT the CIGS!
