1539111 tn?1293014306 I am sorry to hear that your son is having severe fatigue problems as a result of his Crohn's disease. You asked about methotrexate - I have had Crohn's for 40 yrs, diagnosed at 25 rs old in 1970 when the only drug to really treat this incurable disease was steroids. Some 9 years ago I found methotrexate on the internet and cajoled my then gastro to prescribe it, which he was not happy to do, as at that time it was "off label".
Avatar f tn Hi, How are you? While there is no definite cure for chron's disease and the condition is marked by periods of improvement followed by flare-ups of symptoms, it is very important to stay on medications long-term to try to keep the disease symptoms from returning. No specific diet has been shown to improve or worsen symptoms in Crohn's disease and specific food problems may vary from person to person.
Avatar f tn I have moderate psoriasis and have been applying topical clobetasol for a few months. It seems to be helping the psoriatic spots, but has caused bruising and thinning of the skin in the surrounding, healthy areas. How do i reverse this? Sunlight helps the psoriasis, but is it dangerous to expose thinning skin to the rays?
Avatar n tn Welcome to our Crohn's Community Barneypenny. As far as I am aware, Xifaxan is an antibiotic prescribed to treat "traveller's diarrhea", a bacterial infection in the intestines caused by E.coli, and the result of eating contaminated food or drinking untreated water, and is not prescribed with a fever or bloody stools, or when the diarrhea is not due to E.coli.
6843062 tn?1387857703 I felt great except for morning sickness and I did not have an attack for about 8 years on those meds. Maybe that will work. I did walk 45 minutes everyday regardless of weather and that was my form of meditation and a de-stresser. I was told I would never have children and had my little girl when I was 37 and she is healthy and perfect and now 15! My Chrohns is in full bloom for the last 7-8 years and it is terrible. Think positive and best of luck to you.
Avatar m tn As there was no improvement. Doctor adviced to have Exemptia (Adalimumab) injection. 4 injections (40mg 8ml) was given. Next day he was having stomach pain, tight and rigid stomach, and fast breathing. He was immediately admitted in the nearby hospital and doctor found he was suffering from megacolon (toxic colon). After taking x-ray and CT scan, it was found that there was perforation in his stomach.
Avatar n tn Yesterday my rheumatologist has finally decided to give me something other than anti-inflammatories and anti-depressants for my list of symptoms which he has decided are due to either Ankylosing Spondylitis, Psoriatic Arthritis (Palindromic Rheumatism was mentioned too) or possibly all of the above, with a side order of Fibromyalgia. Just wondering if anyone here has taken Humira (Adalimumab) as I've read about it and am freaking out a bit!
Avatar f tn Could I have Crohn's disease without the hallmark symptoms? Can bowel prep for colonoscopy cause mild inflammation and redness? I had a colonoscopy last week and the report says "localized inflammation, mild in severity and characterized by congestion (edema) and erythema in the terminal illeum." I have occasional loose stools, but not true diarrhea and not frequent.
Avatar m tn Yes, Humira will indirectly help in controlling diarrhea and digestion. Let me explain this. Humira or adalimumab is a biological response modifier and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) blocker. Thus, in Crohn’s it will modify your body’s response to disease (bloating, tenderness, diarrhea, indigestion etc). This is because any immune mediated disease like Crohn’s produces excess of an inflammatory protein called TNF-alpha, which causes cellular damage along with pain and inflammation.
Avatar n tn does anyone know of gastroenterologists who promote alternative treatments for Crohn's Disease?
Avatar f tn Hi April - long time no speak. I have just been asked to go to London by our National Assocn for Crohn's and Colitis, April 21st to do a DVD film about Crohn's and give my experiences. Not sure I wanted to do it, travelling etc from the far South West and staying in an hotel in my own, but my husband (the sainted Ted) has encouraged me to go..
7282682 tn?1397237735 Hey nonights I haven't been on the social forum for awhile so this is kinda an old thread and hopefully you've found some help by now. If not I'll tell you what works for me- I have 3 inflammatory chronic illnesses- Crohn's, RA, and endo. I juice. The best combo is apple, celery, carrot, and ginger. I put 3 drops of homeopathic anti inflammatory booster in it. I avoid dairy, fried foods, red meat (except when I'm bleeding heavily) and raw veggies and nuts.
Avatar f tn Sorry you haven't had any response to your post yet. I can only offer slight experience - I had a right hemicolectomy in Mar 2009, resection of last part of the small intestine, the ileo-=caecal valve and first part of the colon (I have had Crohn's for 40 yrs and this was my first resection). The Crohn's flared with a vengeance in July 09, so I was started on Remicade and intially told I would only have 4 infusions: week 0, then weeks 2, 4 and 6.
Avatar f tn Wondering is anyone has tried mix1 for the inflammation that comes with Chron's?
Avatar n tn Please make sure that the knee and hip pain is not related to any form of on-going colitis issues. I know that with U.C. many feel that the problem is solved if the colon is removed, however in some cases U.C. can be misdiagnosed, and the condition could be due to Crohn's colits. If that is the problem, the knee and hip discomfort could signal the extraintestinal problems associated iwth Crohn's.
1440074 tn?1283996071 starting on Sunday, I have been having very severe anal spasms along with a ton of pain, and some itching. It is very hard to sleep at night due to the pain. I have not been constipated, so I don't think it would be hemmorroids. It does not hurt to go to the bathroom either. The pain is pretty constant with spasms very often, and when I have a spasm the pain is so intense that it causes my entire body to tremble. I would describe the pain as almost like a bite near my butthole.
Avatar f tn Was recently hospitalized for crohn's flare for 4 days. Given cipro and flagyl via IV and steroid shots via IV. A week later home taking cipro and prednizone orally. Many side effects? Feel worse now than before? What are the best meds to quiet the inflamation and stomach swelling? This is all new to me and feeling overwhelmed. What about anit-anxiety meds, depression? Help!
Avatar m tn While it is antihistaminics, topical and oral steroids for eczema and antifungal for fungal infection, the treatment of psoriasis that have been approved by FDA are adalimumab and Xtrac Velocity excimer laser system. Apart from that, topical medications like emollients, creams containing coal tar, dithranol, corticosteroids, fluocinonide, vitamin D3 analogues and retinoids have been routinely used. So before using any treatment it is advisable to consult a dermatologist. I hope it helps.
Avatar f tn Ok, I am 29 years old, and have always had problems with my bowels. But, the last year or so, things have gotten really bad. I will go for 1-2 weeks being coonstipated, then have bloody diarrhea for 2-3 days, then go back to being constipated. I had a colonoscopy the 1st of this month, and was supposed to go back in and get my hemerroids banded on the 7th.
Avatar f tn Hi - I do beg to differ with stella5349....in some respects. Ulcerative Colitis cannot be ameliorated by dietary changes, nor cured - it is a serious, sometimes life threatening auto-immune inflammatory bowel disease. Your sister should be guided by her gastroenterologist and a qualified IBD nutritionist before she changes her diet. If she has been diagnosed with UC, I would hope thyroid problems have been ruled out.
Avatar n tn They ran some tests on her and nothing yet. They tested her for Cystic Fibrosis and did a lot of blood tests. She is now 5 weighing 30 pounds. This is the first year she is on the growth chart. She has constant stomach pains, refusal to eat cause she is affraid of it hurting. She has bowel movements a lot, which some have been bloody. I myself have an enzyme deficiency. The dr.'s say no.
Avatar f tn My daughter is in her 50's and has had Crohn's most of her life. Surgeries resulted in her losing feet of intestines. My question is this...It's possible to replace many parts in the human body, hearts, liver, lungs, skin etc...so why can't the intestine be replaced?
