Common Questions and Answers about Acyclovir dosage oral

zovirax

Avatar n tn The decrease in bioavailability is believed to be a function of the dose and not the dosage form. It was demonstrated that acyclovir is not dose proportional over the dosing range 200mg to 800mg.
Avatar f tn There is higher risk for the person who performs oral sex on you as you have not completed the dosage of the prescribed medication Acyclovir 200-500mg for 15 days.Wait till all of the rashes on your body goes away.
Avatar n tn I didn't ask about acyclovir.

1886133 tn?1320874792 Does anyone know the dosage of powdered acyclovir for a 7lb cat? My little one, "Leroy Jethro Gibbs" is having a pretty tough time of it and I want to help him get better soon!
Avatar m tn I started having very mild genital herpes outbreaks about eight months ago, and for this outbreak (only one small blister) I decided to take acyclovir tablets and acyclovir cream. I have no pain or itching. I have taken it for a day and a half, 200 mg every 4 hours, omitting the nighttime dose. My blister is pretty much gone, and Im wondering, would it be okay to stop taking the acyclovir? I read everywhere that Im supposed to take it for 5 days, but is it for the same reason as antibiotics?
Avatar m tn My doctor has perscribed 200mg taken 3 times per day - and has indicated that this is a strong enough dosage for me. My question still remains, is a dosage of 200mg taken 2 times per day effective? I have a strong adversion to taking meds of any kind. I get dizzy, light headed, tired, cranky and can taste metal in my mouth.
Avatar m tn Once we started dating I began taking a daily dosage of Acyclovir 200mg in August of 2010 (one pill twice daily.. one in the morning and one at night) to mitigate the risk of exposing her to what I believe I had and reduce outbreaks. We are having oral sex but not any other type of intercourse. I have not had an outbreak since beginning this daily dosage of Acyclovir.
Avatar n tn sorry to keep this thread going but that brings up a different question as I've heard some discrepancies is the dosage for episodic treatment. My initial one I was prescribed 2 200mg pills 3x for 10 days. I've read for subsequent episodes to take the same dosage for 5 days. The dosage you explained sounds a lot easier, but do u have any explanation on these discrepancies?
Avatar n tn I was originally prescribed 400 mg of acyclovir twice daily for suppression of my herpes type 2. Recently, I asked my doctor to increase my dosage to 800 mg of acyclovir twice daily. Is there any negatives associated with taking a higher dose than what is normally prescribed for suppression. Also, are there any benefits to taking a higher dose regularly for suppression like less shedding?
Avatar m tn That same day I tripled my dosage of Acyclovir as I had read that for an episodic occurance it can be taken 3 times a day for two days for an outbreak. Would this new outbreak be caused by me not taken the dosage first prescribed by my Dr or is it possible to still have an outbreak while on a daily supresser?
Avatar n tn There are no data, but probably zero risk or close to it. Oral herpes due to HSV-2 is rare.
Avatar m tn Just 4 days ago I started to feel itchiness on the same area and it was a few small blisters so the next day I started again the same treatment, the same dosage. The scabs stop growing or spreading and by now are dry. Its been only 2 months apart this second outbreak. The antiviral its really expensive but given the frecuency of the outbreaks should I go under supressive therapy? and if so, Whats the dossage and period of time i should do it? P.S.
Avatar f tn I have been taking different doses of Acyclovir over the past 2 months to get control of the virus and it gets better but does not go away completely. Should I switch meds? Would it be harmful to just increase the dosage of Acyclovir for a longer period as it's recommended for just 10 days.
Avatar n tn hey grace what is average/usual time after exposure i would see an OB if i got hsv-1 genitally? The dosage im taking of acyclovir would only make an OB mild at best im assuming if that. Im going on almost two weeks now post exposure and have not have blisters or lesions or anything except that thing under my urethra(dr. said looked lesion like hence the acyclovir) and it hasn't developed, changed, gotten bigger.
Avatar m tn Genital HSV-1 sheds less than Genital HSV-2. Genital HSV-1 sheds about 3-5% of days a year. Oral HSV-1 sheds more. When talking about transmission some people go years before having transmission to their partner. For example we had a regular poster here who said it took 5 years of a very active oral sex life for her BF to transmit his oral herpes to her genitals. 2. For most STD's yes. When it comes to herpes it only reduces risk about 30%.
Avatar m tn I’ve been diagnosed many years with HSV1, but never had an outbreak until a week ago. Also, my doctor thinks I got it when I was kid. I’m currently taking acyclovir 800mg five times a day, as prescribed by my doctor. After a day or two of taking it, I started getting nauseous and keeping burping. Does acyclovir makes you nauseous and want to burp? Thanks...
Avatar m tn I use acyclovir to and you must know that it doesnt take effect spontaneously especially the first time your using it. It helps relieve the pain though but might take some time to take effect. Just continue use it and youll see the sore will go away within 3-4 days instead of the usual 7-8 days they take to go away.
Avatar f tn I developed a sore throat just 4 days after having unprotected sex w/ new man, and exactly one wk after oral/sex I developed 2 blisters on top of palate, one large and one small. The lymph nodes in my neck swelled within the following 2-3 days, and thinking this was some other less serious virus, my partner and I continued to have sex. A few days later the left side of my inner labia was itching and by the end of the day I had developed a blister in that tender area. The next day there were two.
Avatar m tn Today is day 23 since I first saw blisters. I spent 5 days on 400mg of acyclovir 3 times a day, 5 days on 800mg of acyclovir 5 times a day, 5 days on 1g Valtrex 3 times a day and 4 days on 1g Valtrex twice a day. Before increasing back to 3 times a day Saturday today is Monday I'm still on 1g Valtrex 3 times a day and I'm visiting Mt doctor again for a full checkup. I'm really convinced all these symptoms are due to the hsv1, including the discharge.
Avatar m tn Finally, in your experience does any of the antivirals work better than the others and are the dosages the same for genital HSV as for oral (I ask because the dosage my PCP prescribed was based the dosage for genital HSV?) Thank yoy again.
Avatar f tn s and viral shedding, the once daily doses of acyclovir were not effective. the half life of acyclovir is very short and just taking it daily is not enough to keep the virus under control adequately.
Avatar n tn Hi, with valtrex for first time outbreaks the recommended dosage is 1000mg twice a day for ten days.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am currently taking acyclovir 200 mg twice daily for suppressive therapy. However, I am on my menses and feel an outbreak coming. I was instructed to taking it 5 times a day for OBs. Just wanted to know what time intervals to take the pills. The doctor did not give me clear directions. Thanks. I really hate being a woman right now and really hate the fact I have this virus :( Just a side bar.
Avatar m tn The problem subsided and he has now prescribed a prophylactic dosage of Acyclovir 400mg 1 time daily for the next 6 months. At random, the red spots on the glans and prepuce keep reappearing for a day or so. The urologist claims that as long as there is no pain or itchiness, there is nothing to worry. My points of confusion are: 1. Is this really Herpes? I haven't had sex since Jul-06 (it's true!) - no intercourse, no oral, no skin-contact, no nothing.
