489891 tn?1209058786 My question is y are you taking byetta and actos+met... and I'm on topamx, but for seizures... I'm also on actos plusmet 15/500 just once a day, with a insulin pump ( i take apidra in my pump)... byetta and actos plus met are very similar drugs doing the same thing.. the actos+met will make you gain weight very quickly. How many shots of byetta are you taking a day a long with the actos plus met? and what dose of actos are you taking and why...
Avatar n tn You could also look at doing a Serum Insulin blood test done to check how much insulin your body produces. Will give you and your doctor a better idea about what OHA to take.
Avatar f tn Hi all, My hubby was dx'ed 2 weeks ago w/ diabetes II. His regular doc put him on 30 mg Actos daily. At 1st hubby's blood sugar was a whopping 390- now it's down to 76-90 in the am and no more than 180 even after lots of sugary food. Obviously the blood sugar is well under control now. The problem is, my husband's vision is going crazy! I know that diabetes can cause vision problems when blood sugar is high, but the way it's happening doesn't make sense.
Avatar f tn There are several people here who have had expereince with blood sugar problems and treatment. Some used stuff like metformin or even insulin throughout treatment. My expereience was that high blood sugar levels went away while on treatment. That was a result of the red cell killing abilities of the ribavirin.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know what type of reaction one is likely to get by mixing Metformin and Victoza with meds for Hep C? These are non insulin meds. I am particularly interested in the interaction with Victoza which is a good stabilizer. Both of these meds can cause some stomach distress.
Avatar n tn This is a very big part of having type 2 diabetes, for type 2 is really an insulin-resistant problem, and fat cells are insulin-resistant. So the more fat cells you have in your body, the higher your blood sugar levels. If you lose excess weight and keep it off, you have a much better chance at avoiding diabetes than if you let the weight creep up, even if you ARE eating properly.
1236243 tn?1277680851 I've been on Actos for 9 years and have no problems. Avandia is effectively off the market but ACTOS was not removed. The diabetic educator should know better that suggest someone get off a drug. Suggesting that he/she contact their M.D. was a good idea, but not necessarily required, unless the 'one man in the class' is having noticable adverse side-effects. Rumor monger statements and posts like this one are more scary than it actually should be.
Avatar f tn Perhaps he needs a change in his Actos dosage or needs to go to Insulin to get his levels down. I would talk to the Dr. if the levels stay where they are.
Avatar m tn In type 2 diabetes, the body does not respond properly to insulin, a condition known as insulin resistance. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that regulates how the body converts sugar (glucose) into energy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In view of the multiple processes involved in causing NASH, it may well be that many different classes of medications, as well as weight loss, will have beneficial effects.
Avatar n tn I cant take it forever but low carb and met + actos works well if i can stay on the low carb part it hard but can be done. Most of the time if we can get those insulin and hormone levels right your periods will come as theyre suppossed to and nomore brown blood aka spotting between periods.
Avatar m tn I agree with gpguyway that you should talk to your doctor. My understanding is that oral diabetes meds are generally used in combination, with most people taking two or three different types. Then for some people who are Type II the oral meds eventually stop working. We start out as being "insulin resistent" which means that our bodies produce enough insulin but aren't adept at using the insulin we produce. Hence the oral meds.
Avatar f tn Look at the first study that was done with 5 non-responders to see if using an insulin sensitizer (Actos) to decrease insulin resistance would increase SVR. The two patients who had a poor response and their insulin resistance increased were both on psych meds that can cause high blood sugar (Olanzapine and Zopiclone). As if that wasn't enough, when taken together, Actos causes the levels of Zopiclone to go up. They're doctors.
Avatar m tn About 2-1/2 weeks ago I had a shot in the spine for pinched nerves. It had cortisone in it. I've had other cortisone shots (shoulders, hips) in my life before and the blood sugar increase only stayed a few days. This time my blood sugar is still high after the injection and doesn't want to budge. My fasting runs about 188 or so. I take 15 mg of Actos. I have type 2, and I'm a female in late 50's. My doc doesn't want to increase the Actos yet. My question is..
Avatar m tn BG before lunch 174 two hours after is now 265 with my shots.
Avatar n tn Is it best to take actos in the morning or evening? I am on metformin and glipized, as well. Is it best to take actos along with these medications to be more effective? This discussion is related to Best time to take meds.
Avatar m tn Mike, you don’t have an issue with weight, if I recall; I imagine insulin would likely work pretty well for you. My doctor was concerned that it might promote weight gain; and besides, during HCV treatment it really stopped working for me. My resistance became so high towards the end of treatment I was using all three oral drugs along with 115 units of Lantus insulin, and was regularly getting fingerstick results above 200, and A1c results of >8.5.
Avatar m tn If not, there is an insulin test called C-peptide which measure the amount of insulin produced in the pancreas. Always ask for a copy of your lab results so you can see for yourself where you stand.
Avatar f tn Metformin is a medication for people with type 2 diabetes. But women with PCOS are insulin resistance, and Metformin helps with the sugar levels. I would just say to keep at it, to eating healthy and keep playing hockey. There is no best kind of exercise, but at least you are doing something. Ask your doc to see if they want you to see a nutrient to help you out. Best of luck to you, and I am sorry I wasn't able to give you the best advice, but if you find it let me know.
Avatar n tn I am not a physician, but the mom of a child with diabetes. I cannot give medical advice. I would suggest that you call your doctor and tell them that you cannot wait to be seen. You need to have him adjust your levels immediately. I would fax your numbers to your doctor and have them adjust your dosage, we do this with my daughter if she runs too high or too low between appointments.
Avatar f tn We often have spurts of insulin production for a couple years. But once we stop producing enough insulin we will become insulin dependent the same as any Type 1.
Avatar n tn I have PCOS and have very irregular periods( maybe 3-4 a year). I am on Actos to help with this disorder and I have also tried Metformin which did nothing. My periods will last anywhere from 7-30 days. I am wondering which fertility drug might be worth trying?
