I have not had my blood levels done this was perscribed from my bone density scan thanks
I am a 59 year old female.The reading on my bone density test is minus 4.1 for my spine and minus 2.6 for my legs and hip. However, my doctor isn't prescribing any medication for me but tells me to continue taking calcium supplement and Vitamin D and come back in a year to do another test. Since I am obviously having osteoporosis, shouldn't I be taking any prescription drug? I am worried sick over the reading and need some expert opinion to go back and talk to my doctor again.
My husband thinks that since I just had the 3 mon. of Sovaldi and SOC that it just made my bone density numbers off. Which is entirely possible because on one of my clinical trials, the site was running another trial along side of the Hep C trial I was in. Their other trial was to see if the treatments worsened bone density. So they ran a baseline DEXA scan prior to my starting the treatment drugs and then, again after 30 days and again 1 month post treatment.
Unfortunately, working out by itself was not enough to help my bone density. I have other issues that also cause this bone problem to be worse. Like thyroid abnormalities. Inability to be in the sun because of a skin problem. So, I take supplemental Vit. D. I eat dairy and plenty of calcium and my bloodwork shows I have adequate calcium intake.

Twice I have had dexa scans that have told me I have very high bone density. Where normal is -1/0 mine is 4.4. I have the specific results but I cannot find any information on this. I hope it means good things. The man who has done thousands of these tests says hes never seen anything close to this.

So, I have medical induced menopause. I just had a bone density scan test done but can someone help me make some sense of it? I had one done two years ago and a repeat one done last week.
It states that it is a comparison to my scan two years ago.
Findings: -0.9 lumbar spine (L1-L4): Density (g/cm2) of 1.084; T-score of -0.9; Z-score of -0.5; %change of -3.1
Femoral neck (mean):Density (g/cm2) of 0.783; T-score of -1.8; Z-score of -1.8; Z-score of -1.2; %change of -4.
I had 3 Bone density scans done in last 6 years, and the last one which was on Friday came back showing:
Left proximal femur, the lowest score is obtained in the femoral neck. The BMD of this region is 1.134 gm/cm2 with a T-score of 1.3.Between examiniations, there has been a significant increase in the total hip BMD (.0.019 gm/cm2)
Then it says: Based on the lowest T-score, the diagnostic category if : Normal (T-score >-2.5).
Non-hormonal biphosphonates (such as Fosamax and Actonel) increase bone strength and are available as once-a-week pills. These can also be taken.

I agree with your opinions on bisphosphonates - I've trawled the internet also, trying to find some natural solution to building up bone density - to not much success.

Hi yesterday i got my bone density test results back from a scan i had and although the nurse was unable to tell me much she said i have low bone density showing in hips and spine...
I actually do not have pain in those areas but do have pain in my forearms,wrists,lower legs and ankles so would this all be related?
In the morning i wake feeling extremely hung over, unrefreshed and my body feels stiff and on negotiating the stairs my ankles feel like they will snap!
Why isn't there a health tracker related to bone density/orthopedic diseases for women and men?
Does anyone get the Prolia shot for bone density loss due to chemo? If so what is your experience? I was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago, had partial mastectomy last May, on oral chemo with calcium and Vit D supplements. I already had osteoarthritis and am at the age for bone density loss. Oncologist recommended Prolia shot to combat bone density loss but insurance has denied due to not medically necessary.
I thought for some time that the treatment for hep C was detrimental to bone density based on tooth decay. This article shows that INF and RIB have a positive impact on bone density. I have osteopenia and never attributed it to hep C. It has improved over the last couple of years -- but I started taking Fosamax just shortly before I started treating for hep C so it would be hard to tell if the treatment or the Fosomax was the factor leading to the improvement.

I am a 56 yr young female. Who is a Christian and loves the Lord. Before all this occurred and even after some what enjoyed living, traveling, dancing, gardening, being with friends and family to the fullest.
