Common Questions and Answers about Accutane vs claravis

accutane

Avatar n tn By the time she figured out that accutane (claravis) was slowing her down, the acne had improved so much that she just decided to throw her senior year of swimming away and get her skin cleared up before college swimming. So - accutane and athletic performance HAS NOT BEEN STUDIED!!! It DOES affect endurance. It needs to be studied and I don't know who to tell this too. For the cross country runner story see: http://findarticles.
Avatar m tn I have been on Accutane ( Claravis) on 40 mg for a month, I was upped to 60 mg but just went back down do to side effects. My vision has gotten blurry in the distance and I recently visited my optometrist and told him this and that I was on the drug. He took a paper with all the visual side effects of Accutane and checked me for everything even threw in a glaucoma exam and tear producing test and said everything was normal.
Avatar n tn Has anyone ever experienced this before? I just started accutane (Claravis) 40 mg once daily. I took the first pill and a tension headache started about 40 mins later. This just got worse, no response to ibuprofen. I thought okay maybe not the drug and took the next pill. Headache got even worse the next day. I couldn’t even watch tv it was so painful. I contacted my doctor who told me to stop for a few days and start up again.
Avatar m tn Hello, I am a 20 year old male and have been taking accutane (claravis) for about 5 months now. I am taking two 40mg pills twice a day... I have experienced a few annoying side effects but one of the major ones i have noticed is hair loss. I had very thick hair pre-accutane and i noticed hair-thnning lately and my hairline as also been receding. This is driving me crazy. Will this be a permanent side-effect or temporary and will my hair come back to its original hair-line.

Avatar m tn I have been on Accutane (Claravis) 40mg for 1 month, then 60mg for awhile the second month but went back down to 40mg due to side effects, and recently stopped completely for now. I started to have vision problems, blurry vision in the distance (especially with contacts) , red eyes, and lack of lubrication in the eyes. I went to my optometrist and told him about my problems.
Avatar n tn Also, it might be helpful to mention that I have been taking Accutane (or Claravis, more specifically) for the past four months. Does this have anything to do with that? Thanks.
Avatar m tn I thought it was a link to my past acne medication, Claravis (Isotretinoin) but they told me since the symptoms started showing up 4 months after stopping Claravis that it's probably not caused by this. Today, my nausea isn't as bad as before but is still a major problem since I go throughout my day not eating very much since I fear puking in my classes. In addition, if I get super nervous about presenting a project/take a test that I get nausea as well.
Avatar n tn My daughter, 15, has developed blue sclera. She has been on claravis 30mg 2x a day for about three months. Could this be the cause?
Avatar m tn These doctors are really kind of at a loss it seems, and are telling me that I MAY have aspirated part of the candy and now have asthma, or it could be anxiety induced (although I am not normally an anxious person or stressed out UNTIL the breathing is abnormal for 20 or 30 minutes). Also, I am on Claravis (isotretinoin like Accutane), a strong skin medication that dries you up completely.
Avatar n tn I've only been on Accutane (actually, a generic brand of it) for ten days, and I experienced my first migraine on day 9. I am unsure if the migraine could be connected to Accutane, but I did a little research and some instances of migraines have been reported by Accutane users. I am just uncertain because I haven't been on it very long, but I am already experiencing dry lips, so I suppose I could be experiencing other side effects already, too.
Avatar f tn Hi. Accutane increases the risk of liver problems so avoid too much alcohol whilst taking this medicine. Eloise.
Avatar m tn Take accutane, i'm 17 now and went on it when I was 16 and it worked wonders and keeps tje acne away, I had moderate acne and oily skin too....I play Major Junior hockey and it didn't affect my play in a negative bodily way, it boosted my confidence if anything!......I did a 4 month treatment of it on a lower dose so I would reccommend that, higher doses are for sever cases like grade 4 or between 3 and 4.....
Avatar m tn Other necessary precautions are to avoid exposure to UV rays, avoid too much alcohol, and not to take tetracycline antibiotics whilst on Accutane or for 5 weeks afterwards. Female Accutane patients must use two forms of contraception whilst on Accutane and for 5 weeks afterwards. Male patients do not need to abstain from unprotected sex but must not donate blood in case it is given to a pregnant women.
Avatar n tn 17 year old daughter having stomach issues, just got a positive test for celiac, has bad acne, derm wants to put her on accutane. I am worried about the accutane and her stomach. Not sure celiac is only cause of stomach aches. Also birth control pill used to control acne, then she went off and it came back worse than ever. She is back on the pill for almost 3 months and it is not working. Why?
Avatar n tn My dermatologist decided it was time to give accutane a try. I did a 7 month course and reached the target cumulative dose of 120 mg/kg. I did not have much of an initial breakout, was pretty much clear for months 3 to 6. Near the end of my course I started to get a few zits. It has now been three weeks post-accutane, and I am starting to get more and more whiteheads. Not the big inflamed whiteheads I used to get but it looks like things are returning.
Avatar m tn weight loss ( I was up to 160 right before accutane, lost 20-25 pounds in less than 2 months right after I stopped accutane, and am down to 120 currently) I feel like I have no muscle or fat on me. I'm always hungry but I can't gain a pound.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have been on accutane for about alittle over a month. My dose is 20mg per day. I noticed about my fifth week using it that I developed a rash on the top of both my hands. It looks like little dots/pimples. They don't itch or burn. I thought it was ezema but I don't know. Is this a side effect from the accutane? Does anyone know how to treat this rash? I never had this before.
Avatar n tn I am 20 years old I was using accutane for 6 months, I was supposed to have a small surgery in my pelvis while on the drug but my doctor told me to wait and he explained that no surgery should be performed because the drug does indeed interfere with wound healing in fact he recommended to get the surgery 6 months after I have been off the drug but you should definitely ask her doctor/surgeon about it and get a better opinion ...wish you and your daughter the best.
Avatar n tn By all means discuss this with your dermatologist and share your frustration. There are other options besides Accutane. If you do take Accutane, you will need regular blood tests to check your liver and your cholesterol and triglycerides. You will also need to register with the Federal iPledge program, or else no pharmacy can dispense the medication. When Accutane is given for the kind of acne you say you have, it may clear things up, only to have the acne return several months later.
Avatar f tn Tomorrow will mark day 4 that I am late on my period. I took Accutane from approximately July 20th-August 20th, then got off of it for about a week, and got back on it around August 28th. I was supposed to have my period on Sept. 3rd, and have never been late before. I've been a day early on a few occasions, but never 4 days late. I was wondering if anyone knows if Accutane could effect my menstrual cycle. Thank you.
Avatar m tn My dermatologist has prescribed me Isotretinoin (Accutane) around 20 mg. However i feel uneasy and very worried because i had read the following medical research papers where it tells the harmful side effects Isotretinoin has such as teratogenic and more importantly the cause of eye disorders, like impaired night vision, cataracts, optic neuritis, corneal opacities and dry eye. I had check in PubMed about this and i encountered the following http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10746459.
