5 year old son that was treated with accutane when he was almost14 years old. A bone age x-ray was taken before the start of accutane and the reading was a of a normal 14 year old. After the 20 week accutane treatment we had another bone age x-ray taken and the reading was of a person of 15.5 years of age but the actual age of my son was 14 years 2 months. His height growth since the treatment has been only 1.5 inches. The height of my son was 68.5 inches at the first bone age x-ray.
I have tried everything, I mean EVERYTHING (including accutane twice!) and although at certain times it is more under control, it has never completely gone away. It was getting much better about a year ago but then I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and have been taking levothyroxin for a couple of months now and the acne is back in full force. I am underweight for my age and height but have lots of problems with facial hair (way to much for a girl!
Well, I don't know if what I have to say will benefit your son or not. . .but after my second child (I had developed severe nodulocystic acne while pregnant), my derm. put me on tetracycline and it didn't help at all. . .my mother-in-law is a practicing homeopath in Toronto, and she had advised on some things to do instead (i.e.silica, calendula cream) which also did not work. I eventually went on Accutane - I have VERY mixed feelings about this med - it DID get rid of the acne. . .
So I'm 38 years old and have had a very active sex life up to around 6 years ago. I gave up on the hunt or the longing for a relationship or sexual activity. Literally to the point to where I had one or two if any sexual encounters per year. Here recently I have become more sexually active and I'm having issues with ED. I would say looking back I may have had issues in the past two years but it was nothing I couldn't overcome with a little more foreplay.
I've only been on Accutane (actually, a generic brand of it) for ten days, and I experienced my first migraine on day 9. I am unsure if the migraine could be connected to Accutane, but I did a little research and some instances of migraines have been reported by Accutane users. I am just uncertain because I haven't been on it very long, but I am already experiencing dry lips, so I suppose I could be experiencing other side effects already, too.
17 year old daughter having stomach issues, just got a positive test for celiac, has bad acne, derm wants to put her on accutane. I am worried about the accutane and her stomach. I have seen a local Derm who said there was no scarring on my scalp and no real skin issues associated with my hair loss. In 2004 I took a course of Roaccutane for acne and noticed some thinning after the course finished. I was told that this was a known side effect, but that the hair would grow back. It has been over four years!!! My hair is uniformly thinned out across the entire scalp.

I took Accutane in the fall of 2004 and I experienced severe hair loss. (I'm a girl). My hair came out in handfulls for about 6 months. The large amount of hair that usually falls out after washing or brushing hair was falling out every half an hour if i ran my fingers through my hair. I lost about 60% of my hair. It stopped for a few months and started again for a few months to a lesser degree though. And now, 3.5 years later, it stills falls out more frequently than it should.
3 weeks ago I had my 1st eye infection of my entire life in my right eye so I went to an opthamalogist and he told me to stop taking the accutane for a week (which is what he says caused the infection) and put me on doxyclince hyclate 100mg twice a day and eurithromyocin gel to put on my eyelid that knocked the infection out.

Yes, I had mild acne when I was younger and my dermatologist gave me Accutane, a few months later I was in severe abdominal pain, fever, very weak and ended up in the emergency room originally diagnosed with appendicitis only to find out my appendix was perfect at which point they found the diseased portion of the small intestine and diagnosed me with Crohn's. Initially, I had frequent flare ups and was constantly under medication, but slowly and with the help of the Famous Dr.
I took Accutane for a while and I didn't even get a choice... it was automatic from my dr. you get a script for accutane you also get the script for birth control. The risks are crazy with that medication.
after that i had Shaking in my hand (for 3 month then it removed) and bad concentration (i did not know till now why i did not go dr may i was thinking that is not problem ) after 4 year i did a test for thyroid and the result was positive for hypothyroidism , i want to ask if there is connection between the medication (Isotretinoin and accutane) and hypothyroidism and if it reversible
I can say, nothing has helped the way accutane has. I got a hair cut and made the mistake of getting my hair texturized. My cousin made a comment about my hair so, now I am concerned about it thinning. Upon further inspection, it feels thinner near the crown but, she did texturize my hair. Also, I was laying on it in a certain spot. I took a video with my phone for further inspection finding nothing but I will keep a close eye on it.
Is rogain out of the question while on accutane?
today and he said that he believed it was indeed from the accutane and dryness it causes and advised I stop using accutate! Well 2 months into this I hate to stop now. I have used everything from creams, lotion, neoaspiren and nothing makes it go away but it does soothe the pain. I have an appointment with my dermatologist on Friday and am going to see what she says. After reading this site I have the EXACT thing as described above so I feel much better that it is from the Accutane.
If that is the case, the doctor could have treated it with something other than accutane. How long have you been off accutane and how long have you been treated for depression/anxiety? Was it during the time you were on accutane or once off of it? My gut feeling is that once the accutane is completely out of your system, your depression and anxiety will get back to where they were before.
I'm not sure why you need to start birth control pills or use a back up method a month before starting accutane. Maybe because that med can effect the first month of pills.
You did have a period after starting accutane and you did'nt have unprotected sex until the 13th and 16th. Like I said, if you're like most women you shouldn't be ovulating at that time. Really, the only way to know for sure if you were ovualting is if you were using an ovulation test.
Is anyone aware of a linkage between isotretonoin (Accutane), used for treating cystic acne, and Sjogren's, which is linked to the epithelial cells? At 21, when Accutane first appeared, doses were higher than current (I remember my skin bleeding when scratching lightly with a fingernail). I am now 51, and have had Reynaud's for a number of years, and was just diagnosed with Sjogren's. Just curious if anyone has seen this?
She recently (2 weeks ago) started taking a low dose of accutane every other day and noticed her face and scalp began to itch and flake. She is now concerned about her hair thinning and even being lost, claiming that it has at least begun to thin.
My question: Is there a strong correlation between hair thinning/loss with accutane patients? Should she be concerned about permanent hair loss? If her hair is thinning, is this permanent as well or temporary?
Hi, I actually just took 5 months of accutane and finished a couple months ago. You are fine to keep working out, nothing wrong with that. You shouldn't gain weight either. And there shouldn't be long term side effects. It's rare that you will have major side effects, or hear voices. There are some studies that say some people kill themselves while on this medicine, but if you don't get depressed then you have nothing to worry about.
Hello, I am a 20 year old male and have been taking accutane (claravis) for about 5 months now. I am taking two 40mg pills twice a day... I have experienced a few annoying side effects but one of the major ones i have noticed is hair loss. I had very thick hair pre-accutane and i noticed hair-thnning lately and my hairline as also been receding. This is driving me crazy. Will this be a permanent side-effect or temporary and will my hair come back to its original hair-line.
m on accutane now (40mg/day; 3rd week) and am suffering the worst gas, tummy rumbles (loud!), and both constipation/ diarrhea. I'm getting scared that I've permanently damaged my intestines/gut and am trying to hear back from other people that have gone through similar things. i wish there was more information readily available/ easily referenced on it. i've found lots of stories from people, but no data. it's very frustrating.

Hi, I've just finished taking accutane for 5 months and taking two 30mg twice daily. The past 2 or 3 months I've been noticing that blushing is a big problem for me. I always blushed before I took accutane, but it has never been this bad. Everything makes me blush. EVERYTHING. Even something as little as a stranger saying hello, and my face goes tomatoe red. All of my friends laugh about it which only makes matters worse. I'm very self conscious about it. Will this blushing go away?
This means i did not complete the 6 month treatment. Right now i have been off accutane for 2 months and a half.Right now i have occasional pimples but nothing great like before. My face is getting back to its normal greasy self.I have many embarrassing scars on my face, My question is, is it okay to have laser treatment on my face or microdembrasion or do i suffer the possiblilty of having my acne scars worse than they are now?
