Abscess on your cheek

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess on your cheek

abscess

Avatar m tn I am a little worried because the botched filling (meant to be a crown) has signs on the tooth that this was the cause of the abscess and my cheek is still very large ( a little more embarassing presenting in public than anything) as there is no pain. The cheek has changed shape but is still large and moved down towards my jaw instead of up near my eye. How long does the abscess take to drain? as the dentist was looking for drainage that never came.
Avatar m tn i had this abscess in my right nostril two weeks back and all the puss was drained out by myself, which was a lot. Now it is back in my right nostril with excruciating pain for the past 4 days inspite of my physician put me on anti-biotics as well as pain killers. The swelling and pain has spread into my right cheek and my eye hurts every time i blink.......
1881960 tn?1320703566 Use 1/4tsp in a glass of 8oz warm water. Please do go back and see your PCP. He can reevaluate the abscess. GOOD LUCK and do let us know how you are.
Avatar m tn After few days another relatively small abcess appeared on my left cheek (a large pimple), which was subsequently drained by myself applying antiseptic cream (which ws prescribed by my physician earlier). Now, another abcess has appeared on my chest (just close to my left breast nipple) and I am worried whether this will create any serious consequences. Can anyone advise me why this reoccur and whether it is simply a skin disease.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have a abscess above my main "chewing" tooth on my upper right side. I am under no illusions, I need a root canal or an extraction which I have been putting off for a long time. Anyway, I am on day four of Flucloxacillin tablets, however, my cheek is becoming slightly more puffy as the days go by. Starting to look a bit like a hamster now. The pain from the abscess near the tooth has gone, only extreme pain is when I apply any sort of pressure to the cheek.
Avatar n tn Hi i have swelling on my left cheek from abscess tooth and i don't think the antibiotic is working .... I started the amaxcolin 500 about 4 days ago and the swelling going down to my left side of neck ...what the best i should do .? Can i use warm pack on the swelling ?
Avatar m tn This sounds very similar to what I am going through - again. I am taking an antibiotic and Tylenol with codeine. I am also taking ibuprofen because there is so much pain. And ibuprofen reduces inflammation. Of course, you should check with your doc first. I have also found, like you, that in the morning I have more swelling. It seems to help if I am propped up with my head above the rest of my body.
Avatar n tn Cold sores usually appear on the lips and gums but not on the cheek unless its on the gum area and when you press down on the cheek from the outside, you're causing some pressure/pain onto that gum area Its a little unusual to have more than one cold sore. I would wait another day or two and see if it gradually gets better. If not, it would be a good idea to go in on Monday to have it checked out by your doctor.
Avatar n tn I have had Abscess' in my mouth off and on for about a year now due to a few broken teeth. I was unable to get them extracted due to my hectic work schedule. I am going to be seeing the dentist soon to have them removed and taken care of. I have a couple questions about how I have been taking care of the abscess' though. The first 2 were not that bad. They were almost like a pimple I popped them and cleaned them out and all the swelling went down and pain went away.
Avatar m tn Would a gum abscess cause shooting pain from gum area across cheek to eye, and down neck?

Avatar n tn I also wanted to add that I don't see any pus sack on my gums or cheek but there is some white stuff that looks like it could be an abscess inbetween my tooth and gums. The dentist hasn't seen me since my cheek swelled up and won't beable to until the 10th. thanks, again.
Avatar f tn Any advice you can give me would be very much appreciated..thank you, Caroline :) This discussion is related to tooth abscess and swollen cheek.
Avatar n tn I'm not sure if its escaping from your gums and mixing with the saliva already present or if its coming from the parotid gland in your cheek. The reason why is because of your swelling on your cheek and not on the gums. You may want to go back to your dentist and he may want to "milk" the parotid to see if its infected.
Avatar f tn The swelling should go down since your on an antibiotic. Most dentists will not remove a tooth until they get the infection more under control. He will probably want you to continue the antibiotics for awhile after removing the tooth. I think he may recommend taking Motrin or another over the counter med for any pain after taking the tooth out.
Avatar n tn I have a liquid filled abscess right between my molars and cheek on the top left side of my mouth. It feels like a water balloon. It stretches over 2 or 3 of my molars. I have absolutely no pain in my teeth at all. But the swelling hurts. I have been taking amoxicillan 500mg 3 times a day for the last 2 days (course lasts for 7 days). The swelling has not gone down at all. I want to know if I could pop the abscess to drain the abscess? If yes how can I do it at home?
Avatar n tn I have a tooh abscess - with swelling in the cheek area. My dentist started me on antibiotics. My question is, how long will it take for the swelling to go down? It's been approximately 48 hours and it still feels about the same size. What would happen if it were to burst? At what point would I need to go to the ER.
Avatar f tn Call the oral surgeon and explain what is going on and that you have an appt. on 8/8. They keep appts open for emergencies, and they will get you in as soon as you tell them your jaw is swollen as this indicates an infection. Call right away and best wishes.
Avatar f tn There is an area near #12 that feels really strange when I lightly press on the cheek. But, to answer your question, most of the cheek swelling was toward the lower jaw and there is a knot along the jawline that has been present since the 18/19 crown work and it became enlarged after the #14 crown prep. That's why I felt the #14 crown prep exacerbated the #18 and #19 infection. But, the gum itself did not swell anymore than it already is.
Avatar f tn Hi there, A dental examination is necessary for appropriate diagnosis and management of your condition. It is possible that your dentist has prescribed antibiotics for preventing spread of infection. If there is dental decay you may need treatment for the cause. The treatment can be decided only after in you whether you will need root canal or extraction. Dental cavities if left untreated can lead to serious complications like dental abscess or spread of infection to surrounding structures.
Avatar n tn I had a crown done about 6 weeks ago on my upper left back molar. While I had the temporary crown, everything seemed fine - it was as if nothing happened. But after receiving the permanent crown, I began having sensitivity to hot and cold. It really wasn't that bad, so I didn't think much of it. But about 2 weeks after getting the permanent crown, my gum (cheek side) started to hurt (slight throbbing) and became a little inflamed and pulled back.
Avatar n tn My concern would be if the abcess breaks, you could be looking at serious consequences then. I'd stay on your amox, possibly see if you could find a doctor or dentist who would at least give you a proper prescription for a couple weeks (3 per day) of novamoxin 500s. All else fails, head to the emergency room before you end up with a seriously bad day.
Avatar n tn For 2 weeks I have been dealing with a very painful abscess on my ear, where after alot of research and several trips to a local medical clinic and ER, I have found that what I have is an abscess in the Preauricular pit/sinus. I have been given 3 rounds of antibiotics, one of which I am still taking (Clindamyacin). I have yet to see any improvement from taking the antibiotics, so I went to the ER yesterday where they attempted to do and Incision and Drainage procedure.

Avatar m tn On the third day, the pain went away but I developed an abscess on the roof of my mouth behind the lateral incisor. That same day, I went to the ER and had it drained and was put on Amoxil. Now, 1 day later, the abscess seems to have grown in size. Should I get it re-drained? Do I need a root canal?
Avatar n tn The first day it was just my upper lip and a small part of my cheek, now it's my lip, my whole cheek, my nose and eye which is also black now. I've tried ice packs warm salt water and none of this seems to affect the swelling at all. Is there something else I can do or should I return to the dentist or have my antibiotics changed?
Avatar f tn You should probably go to the dentist and get it checked out. It might be something simple like you bite your cheek and its swollen and irritated but it could also be an abscess or something more serious. Its always a good idea to check it out to make sure and address it properly.
Avatar f tn So sorry your going through that, i had an abscess(everything from eye to cheek was very swollen) and went to the er, i got a shot of clindamycin and a prescription, its cleared, and i had the root canal retreated, and so far, no complications, good luck! i know its scary 2 think you have 2 wait 3 weeks to have it worked on.
