Common Questions and Answers about Abscess complications

abscess

Avatar n tn I wouldn't recommend doing that on your own. It would be best for you to see your dentist and have them do an incision and drainage on the area. The abscess you are describing sounds very large and you should see a dentist immediately. The swelling may continue to spread and it may go to other parts of your head and face so its best to manage it ASAP before there are more complications.
Avatar m tn The oral surgeon gave me antibiotics several months ago. I have been trying to get the money together and the abscess got worse. He switch me to the Z pac yesterday when the pain got very intense. My lips and cheek are now very swollen overnight. I can not get in to have the extractions until August..Is it dangerous for me to wait? The swelling continues to get worse by the hour..
1399266 tn?1280640704 My 8 year old cat, Kupid was diagnosed with a dental abscess about a week ago and put on clindamycin 1 ml twice a day. When she started she had a pink drainage coming from her right eye and right nostril. Her eye has gotten better and her nose has slightly improved. She is still sneezing and looks terrible but she is eating on her own. This cat has failed the pre anesthesia test twice after having complications during her spay surgery so we are reluctant to put her under to pull her tooth.
Avatar f tn Dental cavities if left untreated can lead to serious complications like dental abscess or spread of infection to surrounding structures. For more queries and concerns visit your dentist and get evaluated. Hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar f tn I have had a thoracotomy on my right lung for the same thing 12 years ago. The abscess grew and ruptured, and emergency surgery followed. Why is my doc waiting and doing nothing with my history? He tells me sometimes the body "self heals" these lesions. Please advise.
Avatar n tn I just recently had another MRI which showed no abscess present but a mild broad based disc bulge at L3-4 and L4-5. Could this be related to the abscess? I had an MRI about two days after the site was lanced the first time since they were concerned about meningitis. Also, are epidural abscesses very common? What is the main cause of them? I had an unbelievable uneventful pregnancy but this has really made me question whether I want to have another child.
Avatar m tn The fact that the abscess has hardened and draining it was not possible,I presume your Surgeon wants to run more tests probably to evaluate the extent of this abscess or because he thinks that it could be something other than an abscess, such as scar tissue,a fibroadenoma, fat necrosis or other growth. I think your Surgeon is doing the right thing to further investigate this lump, before considering surgery.
Avatar n tn For 2 weeks I have been dealing with a very painful abscess on my ear, where after alot of research and several trips to a local medical clinic and ER, I have found that what I have is an abscess in the Preauricular pit/sinus. I have been given 3 rounds of antibiotics, one of which I am still taking (Clindamyacin). I have yet to see any improvement from taking the antibiotics, so I went to the ER yesterday where they attempted to do and Incision and Drainage procedure.
Avatar n tn We just adopted a 13 week old puppy through a rescue group, he was already neutered at a very young age of 10 weeks, and we are concerned that he may have complications from his neutering. A week ago we noticed a small purple bump on the incision site that didn't seem to really bother him, but now a week later it has trippled in size and is dark purple. It was bleeding and pussing the other night, so I cleaned it with warm water and a paper towel.
Avatar f tn It could also be due to his age. I'm currently on IV antibiotics due to sepsis as the result of a groin abscess possibly being the result of a suprapubic catheter. In my case they have left the catheter in and treated the infections with IV treatment. If your dad is unable to void normaly, pooled urine in the bladder can cause UTI or urine pressure back to the kidneys.
Avatar n tn My mother has been hospitalized twice in the past 4 weeks from complications arising from her chemotherapy regimen, she recently suffered severe neutropenia and almost died from severe infection. She eventually recovered after 2 weeks of intensive treatment with antibiotics and was sent home. About on week ago she started suffering from nausea and diahrea, she was admitted to the hospital and was told she had colonitis ( megacolon).
1112274 tn?1258546573 then it looked like an Abscess . Week 4 still on antibiotics and the abcsess burst with blood and puss .. Went back to GP a week later it was still bleeding and VERY painful .. I was sent to have an ultrasound scan which showed a mass .. I was booked in the day after for surgery ... The breast specialist said its a cyst thats got infected it has to be removed and sent for biopsy so they did this there and then .. packed the wound and sent me home ..
Avatar f tn If you have been taking antibiotics the chances of developing complications like brain abscess are very unlikely. The most common symptoms are an elevated body temperature, headache, confusion, weakness and in severe cases paralysis on one side of the body. If you are doubtful it is suggested to consult your ENT specialist and get examined. I sincerely hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar f tn Hello, I have an abscess that I have been told was a root canal that needs retreatment (great after spending so much $$ on my crown). The Dr can't get me in for three weeks, so my regular dentist gave me Clindamycin 300MG 3X a day. I have been taking it for four days. Since then my check has gone from no swelling to so swollen I can hardly open my mouth. The pain at the site of the tooth is gone but there is still a lot of pressure above the tooth (#14). What do you think may be going on?
4279185 tn?1352125277 Root canal failed and i developed an abscess on gum. Dentist at the time said best to leave it. Several years passed, new dentist decided to redo the root canal and perform an apiectomy. One day after stitches came out the familiar pimple was back. Since then i have lived with this infection, every so often i have to forcibly drain it to reduce the swelling and pain.
Avatar f tn By my description she mentioned something about fissure and the implant could cause some small infection that come to the top in the form of a pimple on my gums but could also be an abscess from a near by tooth. She said that it will continue to drain because of the type of infection and the fact that it needs to "get out" someway. As depressing as it seems she did say that the implant may need to come out and we may have to start over.
Avatar f tn why there is complications like wound infection, anastomotic leakage, intestinal obstruction, urinary retention and intra-abdominal abscess after colostomy? can you provide me with an answer to my respective complications? thank you...
Avatar m tn I looked at my incision and it was still the same and I decided it was time to try and clean up. The abscess ruptured while taking a bath and it was as though a hugh boil had just burst. It was totally disgusting. I cleaned the abscess and boiled it out with peroxide and bandaged it and went back to bed. The next day, I woke up and thought I was about to die. I had about 103 degrees fever and could not breath and wheezing badly. I knew I had come down with a severe case of bronchitis.
Avatar n tn Sounds like a difficult post-op course. It seems that many of the complications have been evaluated with the endoscopy and multiple CT scans. CDiff takes time to resolve, ad she is on the appropriate antibiotics for this If the symptoms continue, repeating the CT scans can be done to exclude an abscess. If antibiotics are not helpful, a surgical procedure may need to be considered to drain the abscess.
Avatar n tn An ultrasound examination confirmed that she was suffering from an appendicitis. Surgery was perfomred using a laproscope without complications. The patient was discharged approximately 15 hours post surgery. The patient continued to have abdominal pains and develped lack of appetite. On September 12 she was readmitted to the hopital with a low grade fever and her wbc was moderately elevated. It was discovered upon a CT scan that she had developed an abscess adjacent to the cecum.
Avatar n tn The conditions that you have described relates more to an infection to distant sites away from the surgical area. The lung abscess is likely new, as the liver would be among the organs being screened for cancer spread (I am assuming that the colon surgery was for cancer). If there are several abscesses present, then he may have a poorly active immune system.
Avatar n tn I am concerned that this may indicate an infection/abscess and would really appreciate some advice/reassurance.
Avatar f tn I know that my husband needs one, but why wouldn't he look at the appendage in case of complications such as an abscess or something to do with what has already been diagnosed. Can you please advise what we should do? Follow up CT on our own at ER, or wait until colonoscopy is done? Not understanding why he is not looking at the epiploic appendagitis. Worried about massive infection and worried colonoscopy might not show anything and we are another week longer with this pain.
Avatar f tn My 16 year old son had a rectal abscess that lanced itself last week. What natural post care do you recommend he be doing to make sure this heals without complications?
Avatar n tn last week i developed an abcsess in my tooth. my cheek became very swollen. the doctor said the infection from the abscess had passed from my tooth into my cheek. they put me on keeflex. within 24 hours about 60% of the swelling in my cheek had subsided. i am now on day 6 of a 10 days worth of the keeflex.
Avatar m tn I would like to safely get rid of an infection (abscess tooth). I am strongly considering getting antibiotics online. I do not have dental or med insurance and con not yet afford to have any work done on it… not for about 2 months (from a financial standpoint) I was recently hospitalized because of this, the swelling and pain was severe, but the antibiotics prescribed never fully got rid of the infection.
579258 tn?1250652943 Woke up at 4 am and noticed an area on my abdomen, below the lowest of the four previous abscesses, that is the size of a pencil eraser. Not too big yet, but definitely abscess .. and hurts. Since I have been on antibiotics since the first week in May, this really should not be happening. Decided to go to the ER, where they know what this is, and beat the 8 am rush. The doctor who was the one who made the correct diagnosis, nocardiosis, is the one I was fortunate enough to see.
